+ 1 New guy test only.

New guy here. 44 years old. 16 months ago started losing weight and changing lifestyle. Been lifting now for a year. Right now I am 180 @ 5'8". Still need to lose some weight (just got off of holiday.) Not sure body fat, likely somewhere between 15-20.
Just got on TRT a month ago. Running 200mg a week Test Cyp pinning M,W,F. My plan is to get down to 170 pounds and then start bulking and jumping up the test to 400mg a week. Everything I read says to just start with a test only cycle. Does this sound reasonable?
I plan do get my bloodwork done in 2 weeks at the 6 week point of TRT to see where things are.
Pre TRT levels.
Free Test 7.4 ng/dl
Total Test 394 ng/dl
SHGB 37 nmol/l
E2 15 pg/ml

Let’s pause the plan for a minute. Your pre TRT test levels were low and now you’re on the way to being on the high end of normal (on 200mg a week you may be well beyond normal which is great for muscle building). Just this combined with solid training and diet will allow you to make some really impressive gains at a fast pace. TRT also takes some time to get your dose dialed in. You can’t do that anymore once your on cycle.
Given all this I would wait another year. Especially considering all your time dieting and training thus far has been cutting. You don’t really know what your body responds to for bulking. The type of training that works best, food, macros, and timing, how much surplus etc. you don’t want to waste your precious little time on cycle figuring this out. And definitely not youre first cycle of which you only get 1 and it will likely be your biggest in terms of gains, if you’re dialed in. Get that sorted out while off cycle, prove you can gain muscle without naturally. Milk these newbie gains for all they’re worth and then consider a cycle. When you’ve never trained for muscle growth before you can typically gain at a very fast rate. Combine that with test levels at the very high end of normal or even a bit above and you’re primed to explode.
Give it a bit more time. It can take up to a year to dial in trt properly, not always but sometimes. That will give you time to establish training habits, nutrition and recovery. Those are vitally important, particularly as we age.
See where your blood work is at 6 months on trt, then start planning your first blast. Have a goal in mind and tailor compound selection to that goal. Maybe only add one additional for your first blast to see how you respond to it. Also, nothing wrong with just more test, if it fits your blast goal.
Is this self-prescribed trt. Did you lift prior to this lifestyle change? If not, I would hold off a little longer. I did my first cycle about 2 years ago and started at 500 mg. Everyone will tell you to keep it simply and just use test for first cycle.
It's not self prescribed, went through a clinic. I did not lift seriously before this, just here and there for short periods. I do for sure plan to just stick to test for a while thanks.
Yes … starting with test-only is 100% the right move. Lean down, get bloods, see how you respond. Then, when everything’s solid, bump to 400mg for your first real blast. Smart, clean, and effective IMHO.
We’re in a similar situation. 52 and had a bodybuilding coach for 18months to solidify a routine and get my nutrition dialed in…been following alone for past 10 months but progress has plateaued.
Been researching test and about to pull the trigger on first cycle. I don’t have a local community or buddies to talk with so looking for that collaboration here.
Yeah sounds similar. I have friends that work out to talk about training but gear is kind of taboo. I have been considering getting a coach to get things fine tuned.
You will get more info here then from uninformed gym bros imo. There are a few guys on gear at my gym. Before I started a cycle, I questioned them, and the info was way off lol.
394 isnt low.....wheres 200 put ya not that you stopped a good natural number forever?
Is surely isn't great either. Free test was in the bottom 6 percentile, also had low T symptoms. I'm not quite sure what the last half of your post means?
“Where does 200mg test put your numbers now?” Is what he’s asking.
Oh I see, not sure, going to find out in a couple weeks.
