The New Skule Scottish Tongue...
The days of " awche aye the noo" and "ma wee bonnie laddie" have been forever attributed to the Scottish stereotype, along with many others such as the bagpipe playing, whiskey drinking, caber tossing, nessy hunting, kilt wearing ginger 'True Scots man'.
Times have changed people, there is a new breed of angry Scottish clansmen roaming the hillside which have their own set of rules to abide by. Today we learn some of the slang you will here in town centres, parks, pubs, street corners and shopfronts if you ever decide to visit this wonderful land. Let's get started:
SLANG : "Whit did yi say? Ootside rite noo fur a square go!"
TRANSLATED: "Excuse me kind sir, you have just offended me. Perhaps we should solve our differences outside like men".
SLANG: "Ohfft, some set oan her by the way. Here hen geez a gobble".
TRANSLATED: "I have just encountered such a beautiful young lady with amazing round breasts. I would simply love to participate in some oral sex with her".
SLANG: "Geez a fuckin scoop ae your skeg mate"
TRANSLATED: "Hi friend, that alcoholic beverage you are drinking looks delightful, may I have a sip".
SLANG: "Whit a pure mad mental dobber, look at the shape ae him man. Whit a nick tae get yursel in"
TRANSLATED: "Oh dear, I'm afraid it appears that young man may be slightly inebriated judging by his appearance".
So that's all for today's lesson in Scottish Culture and vulgarity. Hope you enjoyed the in depth look at the often untold truth from within the belly of the beast. Until next time....
