ok so my oldest daughter will be 12 years old soon. i been thinking of getting her a cellphone so she can talk/text her friends. as of right now, she uses my wife's or my cellphone to talk or text her friends. personally, i don't have a problem with her owning a cellphone but my wife doesn't agree. she thinks we should wait until our daughter gets older. so i wanna know what you all think and opinions are about this. i personally think she deserves one. she does great in school, at home and helps out a lot with my younger daughter !!

We got our 9yr old a mobile when he started middle school, if he misses the bus home we have to go and get him so he needs to call us occasionally.
He's had my old iPhone for a couple of years at home but we bought a really cheap (£4.95) phone he can take to school.
Also handy to keep tabs on him as you can locate where they are from their mobiles here.
Yeah we also think it can be positive thing specially since she'll be playing basketball and running track. She can get in touch with us after practices and such.

He is a mixed dog. We rescued him from the Rocky Mountain Lab Rescue 4 years ago. I believe him to be lab/golden with wire terrier. He is a medium sized dog and really good looking, but once he started humping our oldest child we got him fixed. :(

zewimy daughter is 11 and she has one she is starting 6th grade, and when you get to 6th you start to get into more school activities and more friends so we think it's a good thing she has one now.
yeah mines is starting 6th grade also this year.....we'll see how the school year goes, she will be in basketball and track so i think a cell phone will be beneficial !!

AnonIm not looking forward to this battle. I am incredibly old school and only use my own phone 7-12 minutes a month. I believe 99% of all cell phone calls is nothing more than inane chatter, texting is even worse.
Have you noticed that many kids today have difficulty looking you in the eye and communicating clearly ? Have you been out to dinner and watched some idiots sitting at the table texting someone else because they cant even carry on a convo ?

If you are agonizing over the decision to do this, it means you are probably more thoughtful about decisions for your children than many. That in its self will be likely to have a greater impact than any phone or reward.
