mad at coinbase!

ad

I am new to the bitcoin thing and signed up on coinbase to make a purchase online with bitcoins. After I sent my first transaction, I got an email saying coinbase was closing my account!! WTF!?!? So i had to scramble around and move what was left of my money into another wallet. I chose Torwallet, becuase i couldn't figure out the bitcoin address for my circle.com account. I might lose what is left of my money because now i am reading that torwallet is a scam, but if i do i will take it as lesson learned.

Some of my friends like Multibit HD. Simple and user friendly and I've not heard of any problems like you mention.

Sorry to resurrect old thread, but after all this time have you heard anything from the cops/feds/etc? Coinbase is known to report suspicious activity.

My account was just closed as well, and has me a bit nervous. Learned my lesson to use an intermediary software wallet.

Yea, I work in IT and convenience of technologies is addictive, so bitcoin was a natural go-to. Unfortunately many sources suggest using CoinBase which is regulated apparently, which goes against the whole purpose of BitCoin in the first place.

I'm curious now if I should be expecting a knock on the door from the cops, so hopefully the OP is still out there Smile

If you don't need to buy, but only store and spend:

  • A paper wallet
  • blockchain.info

Paper wallets can leave you very convinced that your funds won't be scammed or hacked once you understand what they are, but I am not going to rewrite instructions here. You can find them with a web search.

Mine was closed today as well after 1 purchase. Wish it had stayed open. Have a circle open but only being allowed to put in 300 a week when attempting to purchase over 2400 buck worth is a pain. Not to mention the fluctuating value. Over he 9 week period you're liable to loose quite a bit of value in your money. Placed in 2400 in case but now only good for 1980. That's lame. With coinbase they gave me 2500 off the bat daily limit which I was able to use only once.

Since you are the second person to experience this and post about it, is there any detail you can share on the reason they gave for closing?

(without violating the "no payment information" rule)
