Having said so, I am one that sure, I want us to medal but its not why I watch. I love the world games because I love watching the sportmanship and love watching the competition between the people of the world feeling more connected rather than seperated.
The most unfortunate part of these games is that many many countries look down in shame upon their contestants that do not bring Gold. They are thought of as outcasts , made fun of and in some cases punished! Such as contestants from Japan and China and even worse in some others. We support our athletes because we love the sportsmanship, we love our people and we love the competitors that give us the oppurtunity for friendship and unity of sorts around the world.
This is not a Reason to justify hating America because its not representative of America just because a few F's act as these do. We are some of the most caring people on the planet and prove that with our dollars and our time. When haiti had the earthquake/sunami who were the boots on the ground by and large, who were the people giving their blood,sweat ,tears and dollars, who were the people adopting children without parents and building communities and orphanages and providing counceling and friendship and a shoulder to their fellow man?

The media/social media seems to exacerbate this skewed opinion by harping on things like this instead of focusing on real issues. We do provide more financial/medical/food aid than any other country in the world; so much so that it is probably to a fault. It wouldn't bother me at all to see all the aid we give out invested in our own country. As far as the Olympics, I too enjoy enjoy the olympics bc of the ability that every nation has to take home a medal. It is terrible that a country can demonize and ostricize their athletes that have given up their lives to compete for their countries. In short...
