Can't lose weight. Suggestions?
ad
My wife is holding about 30 lbs she wants to desperately lose. She's tried low carb diets, low calorie diets 1,000 per day, you name it, she's tried it. No luck. She does the treadmill 4 days a week for 45 min with incline at a moderate pace. No luck. You would think with both diet and exercise, she would lose something! Not a pound... She's very frustrated and depressed. She sees an endocrinologist to regulate her thyroid so that's not it.
Any suggestions on what else to have the doc check or what to try?

She's starving herself. She needs to learn what to eat, how to time meals, how to carb cycle, and needs to train with intensity aka low rest periods. Alot of circuit style training. 4 days a week at a moderate pace? Smfh try fasted cardio for 45 minutes at a full incline and moving in the am every day and hit cardio at night on a stair master.
If her diet is right and her training and cardio is right she will lose weight if not one of those things needs work.
5'8 170? And eating 1000 cals wtf shes starving and her body is holding fat and eating it's muscle which in turn will slow her metabolism by eating that way.
Low carb diets = starvation. You can only pull that off for soo long before the body stops and fights back.
You burn fat off by the correct nutrition , correct timing, the correct training and cardio you do not starve fat off , you get fat that way smfh.
She is out of shape and nothings happening because she's doing it all wrong.
Have her make an account.
:)...nice info and help...
She must be in starvation mode like all the halocaust victims.
Have you tried crack? Not only will it lighten her weight it will also lighten her pocketbook. But seriously if she is on 1k calories a day and cannot lose even 1 pound, she's hiding something. It took me the past 4 days of a severe infection and eating less then 500 calories a day to lose 5 pounds. She might have to try going to 500 calories a day and see what happens. Seriously anyone who says they can't lose weight is because they are not trying to. Now gaining weight is the world's easiest.
Shit, sometimes I wake up to a bunch of empty fruit snack wrappers in the kitchen. I wake up in the middle of the night and just smash them without any memory of it.
I have been known to sleep eat, in fact a prestigious member on this board tells me to go and eat my feelings. If you want to lose weight you can without drugs or insane diet programs. Start fasting or eat less then 700 calories a day. After a few days your body will stop being in survival mode and start dropping pounds unfortunately the 1st thing to go is muscle, then fat, it's the bodies idea that muscle is too expensive to keep. I know I lost some muscle as well as fat the past week and a half being sick but at least the muscle will come back easy as long as I don't try and force-feed pizza and shit.
ya really don't want a person trying to lose 30lbs of fat start off with losing muscle because they'll just be fatter when they quit the diet ;-(
Certain depression meds will also cause this . If her diet is truly in check I mean truthfully , then I would advise her to see her doctor and have this conversation with them. Have her keep a log of what she is eating .. Exercise .. Water intake .. Log everything so when she goes to the doc she has it
We have no stats so 1k calories a day means shit to mean at this point. What are her stats?
5-8 170
No disrespect but the scales don't lie. Find where she is stashing the chocolate and trash it.
Pregnancy test?
Test her hormone levels too
Which hormones?
Cortisol is in normal range
If she's not losing ANY weight, and u didn't mention she's gained any, her calories are at maintenance. Simple as that
So, 1,000 calories is her maintenance?
How many weeks did she take in 1000 cals?
Is every single calorie taken in TRULY being accounted for? Is everything being measured and weighed? Is she getting 20 calories here, 40 calories there that she is not counting? 95% of people seem to blame that's it's a medical issue when it's really whats going in their mouth.
It's a lot harder with women though
I would definitely get her blood checked. Her cortisol levels might be high. Stress and depression is a huge factor in weight gain. That will hopefully clarify why she's not losing any weight.
