So I've noticed some of you like a freebie promo. A lot of the time the source offers these to existing customers based on a requirement of a review posted in the last x amount of time. All good, no issue with that. Amazing how all of a sudden a stack of short, undetailed and frankly lazy reviews appear though isn't it?
Reviews are fundamental to eroids, it's what allows us all to make educated decisions on sources. These are a couple of examples, both of which appeared coincidentally when a promo was posted up.:

Reviews are extremely important to our community and Catalyst is very right to scrutinise potentially false or inaccurate reviews. If you have any respect for our community then your reviews must be completely honest and full.
One thing I don't understand is, a picture of a bottle of gear or some topless bloke can get 10 thumbs up and a detailed review that potentially saves people money and heart ache form buying from dodgy shops, often doesn't get 1 positive thumbs up.
What do we really value here?
I appreciate solid advise and honest reviews. Should we not concentrate our rewards for these?
RustyhookerCar dealers give away "prizes" as business practice. That's no reason to buy or lie for that dealer. Common sence....

I avoid these small free giveaways now cause they just harass you for reviews
The source that this thread relates to offered a promo at the beginning of the year. I took them up on it and bought some extras. It's a source I use often. They have never asked for a review. Not ever. In fact it was only talk of another promo that prompted me to write a review of the products I had used. It's not my first review for them either.
A decent source shouldn't harass their customers in my opinion. If they harassed me, I wouldn't buy from them again.
Moral is, not all sources are like that.
RustyhookerI'm still getting nagging emails about a promo 6months ago! Twice now i proved i DID NOT receive gear. They still ask to then just review. Efff that! Integrity...

I got two of them about a year ago? Never got to run the gear due to my surgeries and I was getting PMs 3-4 times a week from each. Needless to say I unfriended them. Thank god they don't have my email

Ace VenturaExactly why I've never taken advantage of a free promo in my entire time on the site. "Free" is always too good to be true. I never want to owe anybody anything.
If you're going to review the mods, you need to use proper terminology: G2G!, not good to go. Come on man! ;-)

People should try to overlook reviews like these and not let it factor into decision making. I've been offered plenty of sample packs over the last few years. Sometimes src's will try to press for immediate reviews. You can always tell which ones are legit or not by the timing and sometimes the quality of the review.
Personally, I never give an immediate review and will sometimes go months without leaving one, because I'm not doing it until I've ran the gear and can evaluate it as a whole. That means both service and gear quality.
With the influx of newer guys over the last couple years, and the ridiculous rise in karma levels, sample packs are offered to wider ranges of experienced level users. Not that it's an issue, but what is an issue is the impulsiveness behind their reviews. Just because a src offers free gear doesn't mean you owe him an immediate, illegitimate review. What you do owe him/her, as well as the rest of Eroids, is an adequately thorough review that details your overall experience with said src and his/her products. Without these types of reviews, this forum loses integrity and the overall objective it stands for.

I owed a few reviews for MONTHS...on stuff that wasn't part of a promo. Sometimes I just forget to write what I owe the source...or actually US for that matter. It takes me a good 30min sometimes to write what I would deem as a qualifying review.
So everyone...take some time, slow down and use honesty and integrity for reviewing.
All of us nutty gearheads love freebies...me included, but there is a larger picture at hand here being part of this community we love so much

Haha..I noticed that too, knowing damn well they're just making up the review off the top of their heads when they never even ordered a product thru that company in the past...and I know the sources won't say anything cause they're getting a good review and votes for it, so of course they won't say a thing to anybody..i love free shit, don't get me wrong. But that some shady shit..good read Cat +1
My favorites are when guys are reviewing gear they haven't previously claimed to have used or could not possibly had time to run said gear. Lots of bullshitters when there is free gear available..
