Surgery in a week and having my doubts
So in November I was doing incline dumbs and injured my left shoulder. I was using 105's and going up on my twelfth rep and hear a "POP POP" tried dropping weight and it just wasn't gonna happen. Laid off of chest for THREE MONTHS! Went back for three weeks and BOOM happened again.
So I finally see an orthopedic surgeon in sports medicine and nothing shows up on MRI. Dude is confident that it's my AC joint and in conjunction with a SLAP bicep tendon injury.
Buddy gives me a cortisone injection into my AC joint at the beginning of last month and it hurt sooo bad like I re-injured it for about 4 days and the. Started to feel better.
Now we have surgery scheduled for next Wednesday and my shoulder feels pretty good! Lol. It's got me wondering if anything is even wrong? I literally threw up the 100's on shoulder press today and haven't done presses since November! But before the shots there's no way I could of done 50's for overhead presses.
So could the cortisone really help and aid in pain/mobility this much?

had a labrum tear surgery. best decision of my life waited an worked around it for 18 months i had full range of motion but constant pain. if your in good shape going in and your doc isnt a hack you will have a speedy recovery. i was back to 80lb dumbells 7 months post op but rehap is a bitch have to be patient and do what your physical therapist says! or you will ruin the surgeons work.
The cortisone shots may temporally hide the pain and the injury. I've had numerous shots in my back from a car accident injury with 3 herniated discs. Doc wanted me to get surgery a few years back and that was not an option for me. I took a lot of time off from lifting heavy , about 6 months to be exact and began rehabbing it myself. Planks, back extensions with body weight , etc. needless to say today I am back to dead lifting and working out hard at the gym with no further implications. Grant it I still am precautionary but IMO surgery is the last of all options to be taken. Good luck brother and hope you heal up fast.
Be careful with the cortisone bud I had a got one back a few years ago and thought everything was all dandy and healed well I was throwing up 100s on db shoulder press and boom somehow cause a massive cycst on my shoulder from the heavy weight be careful and just do light weight for a few months and slowly progress. Don't let your ego keep you out of the gym for months because someone is lifting more meet to you
If you had pain and was unable to lift prior to the cortisone shot, I would lay off the heavy weights because if there is a serious injury the cortisone is just alleviating the pain and you are making the injury worst than it was. Wait til the cortisone wears off and then see if the pain is still there. I don't know why people that lift weights go an get cortisone shots for and injury and then go right back lifting like nothing's wrong, that's the worst thing you can do.
Yea it's def a relief but I'm just rocked it today lol probably busted it even more. Thank for the input brother
Shoulder surgery? Make ultra sure it's the only option. Surgeon wanted to cut all the way through my partially torn left distal biceps tendon last summer and bolt it back on the bone. Well respected doc, too. Asked him if I could try HGH - said he couldn't prescribe it but if I could get it give it a try. Four months, completely healed.
Just make sure.
Completely healed tho huh? Damn that's awesome lol
I thought about getting on growth it's just If I were to I would hop on serostim and I can't find a source for it that's legit.
Oh really? FR me and I will accept and you will have a legit source.
Cool man FR Sent man
A younger guy that used to lift with me (26) hurt his shoulder while we were lifting but honestly it wasn't that bad as far as I could tell. Well needless to say he has great insurance and the Dr's insisted he needed surgery. almost a year later he is still rehabbing it and to top it off they want him to have the other one done now! WTF? I would take a year off from the gym if that is what it takes to heal it before I let them cut you..
Damn....well the doctor said "I don't want you to feel like surgery is your only option" and he offered to give a third injection, but man....I've got friends who have had the same surgery by the same surgeon and their top notch, that's why I went to him.
Bro, it's your shoulder. If there's any chance it will heal without surgery that is the right option.
Doctors are in sales bud the more surgerys they perform the bigger house they can buy lol.
I was told I needed surgery for my back MRI showed I had herniated disc pressing on my nerve but I bought an inverter started hanging upside down and my back is fine now so glad I didn't get back surgery
This guy actually wanted to do another injection. I forgot to include that I had another injection a week after but it wasn't in my AC joint, it was in my actual shoulder joint. Thanks for the reply tho man!
Always get a 2nd or 3rd opinion brother, I never go off one word if/when surgery is involved
That was my second opinion, first guy I went to was wild so I said fuck that lol. I forgot to include that because It was pretty far out there. But this guy I know has operated on dozens if people I know or know of and has always done a good job. But thanks man
