Narcotics are Hell

ad

I have thought long and hard but decided to post this personal account. I have read many tales about not using any narcotic pain medications while training and I must agree with this. At least to the point where I would caution you. I had knee injury from playing football while I was in high school. Never really went to a doctor rested it. Iced it. Good as new 2 weeks later. So much so that I forgot about it. The as I got older early 30's felt a little twing nothing major. Then one night out dancing with girl I re-injure my damn knee. Of all thing DANCING !!!!!!!!! Well after major pain and swelling, talked to a doctor friend of mine and got a MRI. Significant tear MCL. DAMN !! Well I know I needed surgery but delayed it several months until I finally broke down. Surgery went longer than planned because tear was worse than expected. Anyway started taking Lortab after surgery. At first things were getting better still pain in knee. Started taking more Lortab for pain. During this time, I realized I wasn't eating right. My appetite was all f'd up. I wasn't going to the gym. Eventually stopped all together. I didn't want to wake up for work in the morning and when I did, I was dragging. This went on for months until I realized it was the damn pain medications. Then I just stopped taking them. I felt like shit for a week. Couldn't eat. Diarrhea, nausea and vomiting. Night sweats. Bad dreams. My girl would ask me did I have a bad dream because I would be tossing and turning all night. Waking up several times during the night. I don't know how she put up with me. Anyway, things got better and I back into the fold.

I'm not saying that people should never use narcotic pain meds. The problem is people who have addictive personalities, athletes, or people with chronic injuries need to be careful. It is easy to fall into this cycle and not even realize it.

Ive been a member here for a good while, this site has also been a help getting my fitness and life back under control. I went through a devastating marrage when I was real young, I married my high school sweet heart and she left me for someone else 3 weeks after my father had passed away. I was 19 at the time and thought i had it all, just bought a house, 4 vehicles and a new born son, she left me for someone else and I never saw it coming because we was like best friends. After this happened I went from never drinking (EVER) to drinking to get a fucked up as possible so I could forget her. At the time I was weak, hell I was still a kid, she took everything, the drinking got worse over the years, went from a 6 pack making me so fucked it wasnt funny (yeah I was a light weight) to drinking a minimum of three 40oz bud lights a day (3 was a light day for me) to eight or nine 40 oz a day. I would absolutly drink my self stupid, in 05 I got n2 a car crash and about lost my life, I stopped drinking after that day. I then got more n2 pain pillz, hydro's and percocet, one thing led to another and as it got worse I started getting more n2 oxys and was using about 300 mg a day of oxy's, I friend of mine at the time that had been using oxys to got tired of going thru the shit and started going to the methadone clinic, he encourage me to go as I was tired of all the BS as well, at the time I wasnt that familiar with methadone and I went to the clinic for 3 years until i ended up in jail from all my past catching up with me, I never knew sickness until I came off of methadone cold turkey, I didnt touch anything for a long time then went to work with a guy who was hooked on suboxin, I liked this shit wayyy to much, after it about cost me my wife and family I rethought my life and have not tsking any kind of main med for 4 years now. I am so much happier with my life now and actually have shit but then It was so bad I really didnt want to live lol. I can tell you from 1st hand experience pain pill are not the answer, had my best friend I grew up with die about 3 years ago because he decide to start shoot up his oxy's and shot up morphine and geled up in his veins and his family found him dead in the back of their SUV. So let me say this to you and Ill quit rambling, all jokes aside there is nothing funny about opiate addictions and if you have an addiction I am here for you to talk to. Dnt let it get to the place you lose everything. Do something about it

I started getting into the Gear game in late 05. Got pretty big (was always a rail my whole life, im talking 6'1" and maybe 125 lbs.) Used Test E - worked the best. Then tried diff stacks of Test E or C, Deca, Winn-V, D-Bol, Finaplix (back when you had to order the pellets and either attempt to make it injectable yourself or do what I did - Mix all the pellets in just the right amount of alcohol, keep in a spray bottle and spray your whole body 2 times a day immediately after exiting the shower. Then started fucking around with Percocets & Vicodin. Which led to Roxicet (Perk 15 & 30's) which gave way to OxyContin 40mg & 80mg. Well within a year I had a 640mg a day habit and lost damn near every pound I gained from gear. It only got worse from there when I discovered Diesel(Heroin) That took me to places I NEVER thought I, nor any other human being would ever go. Well now that I have almost 2 years off the shit i've been easing back into the Gear again. This shit alone won't keep me clean, but hitting that gym everyday hard as fuck def helps alot with the random cravings.

I will tell you from a first hand exp. Pain meds are great for the people who can take them and get off of them in a reasonable time frame, but in my case. It cost me about 7yrs of my life. It was a time in my life where nothing matter nor as did anyone else. I had daily headaches and when I took the "norco 10" it worked and i thought it was the best thing ever but I never thought that I would end up going from 1 pill a day to taking up to 60 a day. I know peps are going to say thats not possible but its the same way a person goes from 1 beer a day to a 1/2 gallon a day. The Dr. that i thought cared about my health wrote me the script everyday for almost 4 years for 60 pills a day. I loved it, at first.. but when everything had to stop bc he was about to lose his medical lic. and I had lost everything .. I can say it was a long road but I truly wouldnt take it now for nothing. I hate the tought of pep that dont want to addmit the truth that they have a problem. Please if this is you stop and ask for help. there is NOTHING WRONG with ASKING for HELP! That little pill" loratab, Norco, Percocet, Oxy" its all the samething and it will rob you of your life and family and the things that matter the most..

I have sciatica in my back with three bulged disk with some deterioration and get some sort of steroid epidural shot in it. It's not cortisone (sp?) though. Anyway.....it helps for about a month and I use some pain killers on my bad days. The pain meds are called nucynta. This is a fairly new pain med that is supposed to be not as habit forming. It is actually stronger than your average pain med (ie; Lortab, Percocet etc) which is odd to me that it is less habit forming. I would suggest anyone that absolutely needs some sort of narcotic pain med every now and then see if your doctor can prescribe this one. It is expensive if you don't have insurance though. It is the only pain med that has ever really took ALL the pain away (for me at least). It is worth it on a NEED to basis in my opinion.

I very good friend of mine almost lost everything (literally, everything - life included) to Lortab addiction after a car accident fucked up his back.

He couldn't get away from them and ended up having to use methadone to come off; at least you got it before it ruined you.

YOU KNOW, i agree with you on this and its good to hear someone admit that they struggled with this. i am a person who is not prone to addictions either but i stay away completely from caffine, pain meds and most meds for that matter. i had my mom go through a disc replacement surgery and she hated taking her lortab and would say she didnt feel like herself when she took them so would just deal with the pain to avoid having to deal with how they made her feel. my son broke his hand ad they gave some for that so i monitored those and explained to him why i wouldnt hand over the bottle and he understood and ended up not using them all. i have seen many addicts over the years and it is scary so i feel your concern to let others know and i appreciate the write up. when you think about it aas is something you can get hooked on. some people will get hooked on the results and just blasting forever without any time off.

One thing I have to say is that just because the doctor gives you a prescription for them doesn't mean that it's all good. NOT !!!! Pain meds become more dangerous the longer you take them because your body develops a tolerance to them meaning you need to take more and more to get the same effect. Then you get to the point that it's hard to function without them. And this is more to do with the meds than the original reason you were taking them. I doesn't have to be taken just to get hi. If you look it up more young people are dying from prescription pain meds than illegal narcs. For this reason the DEA is about to make it more difficult to get prescriptions. They will number prescription pads and require more info from doctor. But this will only affect schedule 2 narc's like percocet, oxy's, dilaudid etc.

And Joediez, I decided to write this because I'm sure the are several of people on this board who take them. I'm not judging just offering a cautionary tale from a personal experience.

be greatful you had the power to get out, ive played around when i was younger, sold, used but for some reason i am not prone to addiction to things otherwise i would of been screwed, i was playing with 80's, more than a few a day/every day lets say until i was busted, stoppped cold turkey with minimal reaction luckily(i was waiting for the shitty part to come but it never did), most people arent that lucky and ive seen alot of friends go down the tubes,od. too many funerals of kids i grew up with. you dont see alot of people who get out and stay out, even more now because they have meds that combat withdrawal, so kids now say who cares, if i get stuck i'll just go on meds to help me get off easy . good for you for doing it cold turkey, my ex did and i watched her go through it. shitty.

Thanx Rods. You are right. I stopped taking them and after about a week, I was ok. The funny or sad things is the damn medication made me feel worse and affected my life far more than the damn knee injury.

I appreciate her, she could've bolted but she stayed. I just booked a trip for us next week. The funny part is we've been to the same place before but I was so tired all the time we basically stayed in the room for like 4 days. She never complained, at least not to me. This time it will be different, as I'm clear headed.
