Help Please
Hey bro's its Luke2010, need advice please. My wife is addicted to pain meds, she is prescribed them but overdoes them every month. I love her more then anything on this earth we have been together more then 10 years and I don't wont her to die due to this illness. She has been addicted for over a year and im trying to find a way to ween her off of her meds because she constintely goes over her prescription and goes to the ER or Eargent care to get more. Any advice is welcome I really cant take it anymore im an ex addict of Coke and pain meds myself and seeing her like this is literally and mentally killing me. Any advice is welcome and much needed, getting really down and out over this. life is not worth living without her and I don't know what to do?

I am sorry to hear this and I agree with Bolt below this is probably not the best forum for this. I do have some personal experience in what your are going through so I will share. I have to agree with most of what has been said below. She will never be off until she truly wants to. It is pointless "supplementing" one drug for these pain meds. Now I do beleive in interventions to help as a first step for the individual to self actualise their problem and the affect and negative impact it has on their and others lives. I hope you and your wife have a group of people around you (not addicts themselves) that care enough to go through this painful process with you. The outcome you would be looking for is self awareness on your wife's part and agreement to enter a rehab program where she can be safely detoxed under medical supervision and receive group and personal therapy. She will eventually hopefully be ready to leave the program and utilise NA type support meetings on a regular basis to ensure continued sobriety and support when things get tough as they enviably do. I don't know enough about our personal situation to know what type of support you and your wife have or could potentially have but this is what worked for me and for others close to me. This approach really saves lives. I wish you all the best with this.
This might be the wrong platform to get constructive answers. How an AAS sight is suppose to "help" you, I dont know. We aren't in the business of abuse. Detox is step 1 for any substance abuse...
I'm sorry but I have to .... Almost all the crap I've heard here will not work if she's a real addict.
Tell her you love her?? Sorry but frothy emotional appeal seldom suffices...what she needs must have depth and weight.
She has to have a strong will to be off?? Don't you think that's the problem, lack of power or will. If she could bulldog this thing she would have by now. Your dealing with something more powerful than human will. What she needs will have to be more powerful than human will.
I'm an ex addict?? Lol once a pickle you can never go back to a cucumber
Suboxen saves life's?? Get fuckin real man. Suboxen is a drug. Why wud I wanna be hooked in something else. Do you know they don't make anything to help get off suboxen?? The half life is so much longer than opiates. Have you ever been dope sick for 3 wks?? Don't do it, its a trap
Im a very smart person, never been addicted to anything. Did research and took control of my life??
If only it was that easy, do you think intellect will cure a disease??
Ok the best thing I've heard here is that she will only stop when she's had enough and is tired of living like that. Telling her to choose you or the dope does not work. This desease doesn't care about love or your feelings. Weening off should only be done by a professional. Do you know you could send her to ceisures or cardiac arrest depending on the meds she on. Do you know how many normal ppl out thier are passing around so much misinformation about addiction and are killing ppl. The best solution will come from someone who has been their and made it thru the other side. The therapeutic value of one addict helping another is without parralel. I believe her best bet is a higher power in the form of a twelve step group than will introduce her to an even greater power that will be able to do what no human can. Remove the obsession to change the way she feels. This is not the only thing that works but the t is a proven way that has for years. Church, work, live money might fix the everyday user but for the real addict it might be the only hope. Unfortunately she can be the only person to diagnose her self with it and from their the recovery process begins.
I say all this with the utmost respect for you , her, the others that posted but most of what was said is bs.
Good luck man. And if you don't believe in something now mite be the time to hit those knees and ask for help .
AnonThere's nothing you can do on your own, it takes significant outside intervention to kick addiction, especially opiate addiction. You need to get her into a real rehab, not some money-mill that just tries to plug and play all their patients for a check from the insurance company and spits them back out into their old lifestyle. You need to isolate her from EVERY SINGLE CONTACT she has that does them with her. Best friend? Sister? You? Friends? You can NEVER become clean while those around you aren't. That's a fact. Isolate her from them, then focus on getting her direct help. She has to be willing or else she can sign herself out. Next step is diming out your own loved one to LE. If she refuses treatment, she's better off getting popped for possession and being forced into sobriety than to stay a zombie 'freely'.
FranklinsFin3stGet her to a suboxone doctor brother. I know its like replacing one drug with another, but its actually a program designed to ween addicts off of heroin or perscription pain meds. If she keeps up with this she will more than likely see an early grave. Suboxone treatment saves lives. If you find a doctor that actually cares!
Yeah ive talked to her about that, im all for it if she can be weened off even with a differant drug. Ill try anything to help her.
Appreciate eveyones replies and advice. Guess ill take it day by day with her.
Unfortantly ,as all the brothers said below ,until shes ready ,theres not much you can do.i know I had 20years of opiate addiction. And nothing helped me till I wanted to help myself .. Unfortantly when my (negative) consequences kept out weighing positive ,is when I finally came to my sences .also that took decades ,because I kept forgetting I'm a addict and would pick up.thinking something was going to be differnt .like me controlling ,them lol, not happening .once she makes the decision to truly want it ,then there is alot of good options
TronYou can't get her off those pills until she WANTS to come off. She has to want to or you could lock her away in a room for 3 months and she would come out wanting to do them again. I got hooked on em after a car wreck a few year back and I know how evil the addiction is but it is beatable and especially after only a year. TALK to her. Tell her how much you love her and make it a point to be extra sensitive and not yell. If she shows no sign of wanting to stop then you need to reconsider what is best in your life. You are heading in a positive direction and she is not. If that's the case you need to get ugly.. she chooses YOU or the DRUGS.
Very true, talked to her and basically said that. Locked her meds away and now im giving them to her how shes suppossed to take them each day.
Very true. NO ONE will quit until they choose to. The OP can either choose to stick around and see what happens or move on. It all depends on how destructive she is with her addiction. If it's heading south, probably best to take care of himself.
TronIt wasn't what he wanted to hear but it's absolutely true and if I wasn't 100% sure I wouldn't of put it like that.. sad, addiction is.. and evil.
Thats the cold hard truth. Noone will stop until theyre ready to and want to.
Hey brother from personal experience the best way is to wean off start cutting the pills in half for 2 to 3 weeks then after that cut them again to smaller pieces after another 2 to 3 weeks till you are basically taking a crumb ,alot of it is mental ,she has to want this also if not it will be very hard look up weaning schedule on Google for what ever she is taking I'm assuming opiates, there was a time when I lived in the country ,was bitten by poisonous spiders more than once antibiotics and opiates was prescribed ,so I kept abusing the opiates ,had alot of money at the time so I would buy them by 1000s stayed on them for about a year ,then said fuck this what am I doing ,I'm a very smart person never been addicted to anything before ,so I took charge of my life ,did some research and weaned off,the biggest fear for someone on opiates or any pills is the withdrawal ,I guarantee you with a weaning schedule ,there is very minimal withdrawals ,I was shocked at how easy it was to wean off and still continues to work and be out ,if you need any advice hit me on a pm ,alot is mental like I said you have to have the strong will to be off ,
Look into using kratom leaf or extract to moderate and taper down her dependence on opiates.
Sorry to hear that, buddy. Its really frustrated when encounter with the condition.
fusebox said is right, you shall take care of yourself first, otherwise nobody will take care of your wife if you fall down. No doctors can help her? You shall stop her to use too much pains meds now! That's terrible for health. take care, man.
You need to take care of yourself first. No point in trying to help someone no matter who it is if you're not squared away yourself. Get yourself grounded and don't wayver. Hopefully a solid foundation you build will communicate this for you. This is not a quick fix. It needs to be conveyed over time and you need to follow thru with it. Good luck.
