We (hubby and I) train for 1-2 hours at a time depending on the day (usually closer to 2 hours) and we workout 6-7 days a week. I don't believe in over training so to speak. As long as you are getting rest, enough of the proper nutrition and the muscle isn't too sore to get an effective workout then I think it can be trained again. My workout routine (especially to bring up lagging parts) would make a lot of people freak out! Listen to your body, it will tell you when it needs to rest. And I don't mean I'm just too lazy to go to the gym type stuff but when you really feel burnt out....that is when I take a day off. It may be once that week or once in two weeks.

On the average we are in the gym from an hour to maybe two.... Depending on which form of cardio we have.... We train time under tension and 5:1:5 tempo tend to take longer.. However, I would say it's going to depend on your goal..

Being there's no day care at our gym and I train w my wife our avg session depends on how long we can get a sitter for!

But for real, I do my main body part that I'm training for the day for about 40-50 minutes roughly, then secondary muscles (bis on back day etc) til exhaustion. A couple days a week ill throw abs in for about ten minutes, but I usually just bang those out between sets.

It depends on the person. I have no idea how long I work out for on average. I push until I get the feeling I'm going to puke, then I do a few more sets lol I like that feeling.

Don't worry about time, just push hard.

comes down to goals plus how long you've been working out. I personally think over training is a myth as do a few other pros I talk too, it comes down to under eating not over training, like most think it takes a whole week for a muscle to heal I call bullshit it takes 48 hours tops with the right diet intake and no under eating there has been plenty of legit credited studies. honestly tho it comes down to what you want and what your going for. I mean someone new isn't going to be coming to the gym twice a day for 2 hours a time , but if you plan on competing eventually you might. others who just want to be in shape most work out 45 mins to an hour and half.i know a few pros that would hit a body part heavy in the morning and then hit the same body part 5 meals later at night for quality ,controlled , reps focusing on mind muscle connection and muscle contraction. it all comes down to your goals and your training methods.

I don't put a length of time on a workout. It depends how I'm feeling, how heavy I'm going, if I want to give a muscle group some extra work - it get's done when it get's done. That said, I'm usually done in less than 2 hours.

On or off gear...I am in the gym 3-4hrs/wk MAX. I am more of a powerlifter tho and also I can't separate body parts all crazy, I end up hurting my joints/tendons. I stick to an upper body push/pull 2x/wk with one day for legs. It works for me and I get great gains. Everyone is different tho, I've been doing all this for years and I know my body...when to push and when to quit

SOOO....it depends on your goals and what kind of workouts you like best...are you more of a BB'er, a power guy/strongman, or cross fitter? Then feel it out, listen to your body

On cycle 1-2 hrs depending on what bodypart is being trained.
Off cycle 1 hr max

A coach told me that workouts should be around 60 minutes. I have a couple that are under 60, but most are closer to 2 hours because i rest longer, especiallly with the hotter weather. Do you do cardio?

I found this site to be helpful when I was starting out at your age.

Good read...thank you

Thanks bros,I will concentrate on on my goals and get me some taurine.I will focus on completing my workouts rather than a time frame or how many days a week to reach my goals.

I don't know if there really is an answer to this. Everyone is different and it also depends on your level and especially your goals. Way too many variables to say "1.45874 hours per day, six days a week."
Might help to let us know your goals are and how long you've been lifting.

Over training can happen when your in a calorie deficit or not sleeping enough....Also Your central nervous system could be fatigued....I started taking 2g of taurine a day and that has helped me tremendously....workout time everyone is different....If I blast one body part I maybe in the gym 1-2 hours depending...try going for 1 hour with little rest between sets but again that time may vary depending on the body part...Dont over think it and get to know your body =)
