Im not one to write long forum post but something happened to me yesterday and i feel like everyone should be aware. I drew up some sust with a 23 g and i opened up a new pin 27g 1.25 that was sealed in its packaging. I always push a little oil out of the pin before i inject. As i tried to push the oil out it was almost like it was stopped up. I pushed a little harder and a drop of nasty brown liquid came out. I assume this was oil mixed with rust. I keep my pins in my closet away from any type of moisture and this was a new pin sealed in its packaging. They were global pharmaceutical solutions brand. Be careful guys.

I work for a medical device manufacturer, what that could be is lubricant that is applied to the pin during the manufacturing process.
This is very strange. What was the brand? I just don't see this happening with any major brand of pins. Not doubting you, but this is a one in a million situation, since they're used in every major hospital which and the like.

Just curious why you would assume it was rust? Pins are surgical stainless steel with a plastic base.
If it were me, I would throw that whole box away! If what you seen is residue from a chemical used in the molding of plastic or the bonding of plastic to metal, that is so toxic! I'm talking 3 eyed kids toxic!
Ha your right! Since i work with metal for a living you'd think i would have thought about it being stainless lol! Theres no telling what it was.

No rust mixed with the oil inside the barrel. I drew with a separate 23 g then swapped to this 27 to pin with. Pretty sure it was rust mixed with sust.

That shouldn't even be possible for a manufacturer to let that slip through QA, think of the potential consequences to someone in poor health? Compensation claims galore.
