Top of the morning

ad

Hi
I'm new here. 50 yrs, 5" 11', 180 lbs
Background: I had a healthy youth, boxing, rugby and weights. I was typically around 240 lbs back then.
Marriage, kids, work and decades creeped in and I kept my weight, but of course, changed shape. Too many take aways and drinks that I felt I deserved in the evenings after work. Constant fatigue set in and I felt old.

I found myself at the doctor regularly. I put my back out at least once a month and my blood pressure was rediculous. The doc said it was wear and tear and I was getting old.

He did say I should loose about 5 stone, which made me laugh and tell him how athletic I have been in my youth, and that I was always much heavier than that. He gave me meds for blood pressure and told me to take them for the rest of my life.

I studied, and gave up on the silly fad diets. Qualified as a personal trainer, then sports and exercise nutrition advisor. I went keto three years ago, and lost all the weight I was told to, over about a year. I went from 252 lbs to 168. Where the hell was all the muscle I thought was under there? I was skinny fat, and knew I had to train. A year after that I had a good shape, I did light training after finding I couldn't lift what I used to, and had some stupid injuries. So, more learning and eventually got into a proper workout schedule.

I suspect I should be on trt, but doc said my bloods are fine. He has been impressed with my progress. But I had a very low libido and lack of energy at times. A few extra carbs does allot for that. I dieted too hard and lost muscle for sure. I've been makng good progress, not like I used to but taking age into account I'm doing well. I track macros closely.

I'm here to learn initially, and have been reading lots. I am interested in experiences of some of the older guys. I see allot of harsh comments, and I can understand why. Nice to meet you all, and good luck with your gains.

Welcome brother.. Sounds like u already have a nice grip on healthy living. This is a great place of resource, knowledge, and experiences to get u to the next level. I believe, not only practicing healthy diets, that quality muscle mass is what keeps us living long quality lives.

What are you test levels?Doctors,at times don’t recommend trt to people that actually need it.I had an MD tell me 250 ng/dL free test was fine.Of course he is no longer my Doctor.

I didn't get the results myself.. The doc got them, but he has made an appointment with a uroligist, so I hope to get sorted if I do need it, thanks. I should ask for a copy of that.

I did not get the results of my test as well. 4 years later I created an account with the diagnostic center online and paid to have all lab results I have ever had, emailed to me. I was just curios to know what my results were back when I was 40.

Yes .Remember not all doctors agree with hormone replacement therapy. Some of them judge normal by what it should be in a certain persons age instead of a certain range.

Thanks @jayisk
The truth is the truth, and I accept I'm aging.
I've seen people recommend TRT to anyone over 40.. but I'll stick with the doc's advice.
The gym is really helping, and has given me a new lease of life.
The only answer I know to Skinny Fat is build muscle, so that's what I'm working on.
It takes getting used to size medium in clothes lol.. not counting x's.
