My long story - Type 1 Diabetic

ad

Hey guys, and gals. I've lurked here for quite a few years soaking up the info and sampling the goods. After seeing how close and helpful everyone has been, I decided to go ahead and introduce myself in the hopes that I can help someone that may be dealing with the same things as myself. Remember, everyone is different and react differently to the things we do. I'm NOT condoning another Diabetic to follow what I'm doing.

First off, I've been a Type 1 Diabetic (insulin dependent for those that don't know) for 35 years. I've been wearing a pump (Apidra Insulin) with a continuous glucose monitor for 12 years now. I keep it under really good control with the help of some of the things we do, and our lifestyle. I've officially been on TRT for 9 years now and it has helped me tremendously.

I've been training off and on for 20 years without much success or gains, but this community has taught me the right way. I blew out my right bicep tendon, rotator cuff, and labrum 4 years ago and had surgery to correct it. Those 3 years of recovery took me completely out of the gym as the recovery was LONG and very painful.

October 2018, I'm obscenely out of shape (6' 345lbs, 45%BF - check my stats in my profile now) and mentally beat down due to the shoulder issues and my bad shape. A new "old school" Pro-style Iron Gym opens up a mile from my house and I go check it out. The vibe is UNREAL. All brand new Arsenal Strength equipment, 2 sets of dumbells from 5-150, 6 squat racks, 3 diff plate loaded leg press machines, hacks, plenty of calibrated plates, regular plates, even a dozen 100lb plates, 2 dedicated deadlift platforms etc, etc. Basically a candyland for guys like us. Non politically correct music, no shirts required, mirrors everywhere to work on posing, etc. Basically the polar opposite of Planet Fitness. It doesn't get any better. I start training with the owner and am seeing results that I've never seen before. He taught me to not worry about the amount of weight I'm lifting and to concentrate on the contraction instead of focusing on moving the weight. He helped me develop the mind-muscle connection that I'd been missing. The difference has been night and day.

Yes, I am on gear. I blast and cruise on Test.Test has NO negative impact on my blood glucose levels at all. I know this because of the CGM that samples my blood glucose every 5 minutes and graphs it on a chart screen on my pump and computer. I've learned a few things with this CGM relating to gear usage that was eye opening. Remember, this is my experiences with it, and you may NOT react in the same way. Again, I'm not condoning another Diabetic to do any of this. I have a VERY understanding Dr who supports my lifestyle, and I get very regular blood/lab work done.

As I said, Test, no matter the dose I'm on, does not affect my blood glucose levels at all. Zero.

Tren: I've ran both Ace at 100mg EOD and Enanthate at 200MG e3d. I have to reduce the insulin basal rate on my pump by 30% when on Tren of any kind. It seems to make me much more sensitive to the insulin, or maybe it's the effect of pulling glucose from the bloodstream into the muscle cells. Carb meals have a lower impact on me in that I don't get such a hard spike in blood glucose levels. I don't run Tren but once in a while because I know it's harsh in other ways. Not a long-term staple.

Anavar: I've ran this at 25mg 2x a day and see the SAME effects as Tren above, however it seems to be even more pronounced in it's effects. I only have one carb meal every day, which is 2 hours pre-workout. Since being on Anavar, it barely registers a slight rise in blood glucose levels, where I used to get a huge spike.

GH: I know this one will cause a lot of you to be wondering "WTF is a T1D doing on GH??" Let me explain.

I started on US Pharma grade Nutropin back in November 2018 strictly as a first hand experiment. 2IU ED for 4 weeks, then I went to 3IU for 4 weeks, then finally to 4IU ED. The first 2 weeks, YES I did struggle with high blood glucose levels, I kept taking correction doses of insulin from my pump to bring it back down. I noticed my insulin sensitivity was severely impacted. I still stuck with it to see the experiment through. Week 3, the issue seems to be dissipating somewhat. Week 4, back to normal insulin sensitivity. Week 5, I'm starting to get a bit too low (hypoglycemic) too often, so I reduce my insulin doses. Week 6, Dialed in 100%. Fasting glucose ranges in the 70-90 range every morning. Post-carb meal glucose levels are lower than normal, meaning the "spike" after the carb meal is gone. Meaning before the meal I'd be 80-90, eat, and I'd see a rise to 140-150 , then I'd drift back down to 90-100. Before GH, I'd spike up to 250+ and have to "chase" the high with insulin for hours.

So, my continuous gear regimen is:

Cruise: (36 weeks of the year): 200mg Cyp a week, 25mg Anavar ED, 2IU GH ED (blood/labwork every 2 months). I donate blood every 2 months like clockwork.

Blast: (16 weeks of the year): 600mg Cyp a week, 100mg TNE preworkout on compound heavy days (chest, back, legs), 400mg Tren-E per week, 50mg Anavar ED, 1mg Arimidex EOD, .5mg Caber E3D, 5IU GH ED (blood/lab work every 2 weeks). I also do therapeutic bloodletting every other week during this blast due to sky high RBC).

So, in short, this community has opened my eyes a LOT and taught me things and my Dr things we never thought were possible. I used to STRUGGLE to keep my A1C below 10. Now, my A1C's are always in the 5-6 range, due to all of the info I've learned here. My other labwork always comes in good, no issues. I'm thankful for this community of "pioneers" and the willingness to share knowledge and help each other.

Nice, I’m also t1d and Very interested in the anavar and the endo allowing you to take it legally, I have great insurance and I’m wondering what condition it treats that it’s allowed to be prescribed? “I will have that condition” lol jk but damn really your endo cycles you? Wtf wow! Amazing

Great read, however.

Welcome here where information is vital. It looks you´ll be able to teach us some things.

There are diabetic bb's and fitness people out there. Not sure if they are on gear or not but may be worth checking out and maybe picking a few tips. One guy I follow on IG is Chris Ruden. Maybe check him out.
Your gym sounds pretty sweet!

Good luck

Very nice write up. One thing I noticed was you are insinuating that you’re on Var 52 wks out of the year. That’s not good man.

You're exactly right. During cruise phase, I'm going to keep it at 25mg a day and do routine labwork to monitor liver values and other related areas it could effect. If no issues, I'll stay on it at that low dose for the glucose benefits.

Very interesting about the tren and var and glucose levels

Yes, I'm a walking, living, breathing lab experiment. I immensely enjoy learning the pharmacology and seeing how my body and condition responds to various things. Diabetes is a self-management disease. Having a Dr that understands, supports, and monitors my lifestyle has made all the difference in the world, in addition to the wealth of knowledge here.
