Fasting

ad

Just curious, I doing a 3day fast before I see my new trt doc and does anyone know how or will it affects blood test levels?

24hreup's picture

why do you fast for 3 days ?

Ryan1007's picture

Big advocate of IF. I fast 16 hours of each day. Bloods are excellent and training and gains are as good as they have ever been at 40 years old.

Every day?

Fasting 18 hours can more or less mean that you just skip breakfast. Eat lunch at noon, dinner at 6pm, and it works itself out to 18 hour fasts.

If you do 24 hour fasts, it basically just means you skip breakfast & lunch. (No snacking or calorie filled drinks too, duh!) A person will still eat dinner, and if your dinner is good old fashioned meat & veggies, your body will thank you as that digestive rest followed by good nutrition will heal you from the inside out, literally.

I've never went 10 hours tops without food......this may help with what we mentioned in pm?

Fasting seems to have zero effect on my depression. Diet is king. Sugar is the enemy. It's mind blowing to me. Literally, my mind can't compute the depressing effects of sugar. I love sugar, but depression sucks, so I'm sugar free and living a completely new life as a result.

If anything, the real benefits of doing a 24 hour fast once a week are only seen after three or four months. The body will "feel better" cuz it is actually detoxifying itself. Literally, it's getting the crud out of your system. Duh, a body is going to feel better.

FASTING is not "scary," men! Just skip breakfast and lunch, then eat a normal dinner, so you eat everyday, but your digestion has 24 hours between having to get back to work.

Do this once a week. You won't lose your gains unless you stop lifting hard. Yes, feeding your body good nutrition is important to build muscle, but our bodies don't go catabolic in a day, or two, or three for that matter! (Obviously if you're super thin or emaciated, then fasting isn't for you, not to mention that you probably aren't on a lifting forum to begin with.)

If food was truly anabolic in and of itself, then every burger eating fatty would be swol.

Want muscle? Lift hard, get sleep, and eat right. Fasting once a week can be an incredible health tool to help you recover and feel better.

Fasting for 3 days???
I would be dead in about 2 hours without food lol

zeusmarada's picture

Dex, you got me laughing with this one! However, just for other people reading, I'll add my two cents for discussion purposes.

Fasting has a negative light with the "more food is better" crowd. In the proper context, they're right of course. However, in the improper context, more food is not "better." The answer is always, IT DEPENDS.

Fasting in and of itself has a ton of benefits, assuming it's not done to super extremes of course. Just a 24 hour fast can do wonders for helping your body detoxify assuming you drink water and get ample rest. Eat dinner, then skip eating until dinner tomorrow. Boom, 24 hours have past and your liver & kidneys have been able to clean up your circulatory system in fine fashion.

People sell these "detox" ideas to the public, but the body already has an incredible ability to detoxify itself. Hell, there's a whole industry built around our bodies ability to detox itself. The toilet paper industry aint going anywhere anytime soon, especially when it comes to me as their customer... I digress. back to the topic.

We don't train biceps three times a day, seven days a week, ad infinitum, and expect them to not have long term fatigue. We gotta work that muscle system, then rest that system for it to be optimum.

Yes, I know that digestive organs are totally different than skeletal muscle, but still, the concept is the same. Don't be afraid to rest your digestive system.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go cook bacon. (Not even lying!) Dex, you cracked me up, so I had to play contrarian to mix it up. Thank you for a good laugh!

Really I was joking, I’m a big fan of intermittent fasting myself, it really makes me feel so much better, also has a tremendous effect on fat burning process.
So I completely agree with you, 3 days just sounds but too much for me though

zeusmarada's picture

I liked your original comment cuz it indeed made me laugh! There are simply newbies that stop by this site all of the time. The "eat big, get big" crowd will scoff at fasting, as they should since size/strength is their goal! My goal is to be the strongest version of me at 200lbs, and the scale still says 215. It literally would be a six week cut for me to get there, but my family (on both sides) can cook better than most professional cooks, and I LOVE to eat big. Thus, ZeusM stays "big" (speaking about myself, of course). Much respect, Dex! Cheers!

Military doesn’t test for gear. That’s way to expensive. Even when they do drug test they only really test 1 out of 3 or even 1 out of 5 people.

heavymetalmonsterD's picture

I can say that they will test for aas if they have reason to suspect you're using it already.. but their random testing doesn't test for aas. . that's the army anyway don't know about the other branches for sure though

When we were in the states I never heard of anyone getting tested for it but that doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. Definitely wasn’t common though. When we were deployed there is no way we would ever get tested. Every time we leave for a convoy we were Poppin dbol like candy lol

JUICEBOX0331's picture

17 years ago in the Corps, they would have us each piss in a cup and then combine 15 cups into one and then test it that way. AAS wasnt tested for and probably never will be.

heavymetalmonsterD's picture

Lol they were doing that when I was in also...

3 days might be alittle extreme, maybe not a good idea.
I’m asking because I do not want to mess up my blood test.

Greg's picture

Do what the doctor told you. Usually you only need to fast (when required) 8 hours before the draw. Only drink water.

Smevans13.'s picture

I believe you have the right answer, Thanx

wanted's picture

It sounds to me. Your trying on purpose to lower your test results ... fasting isnt gona do it...

Right! Now Im all for a good fast now and again for health reason. But this smells funny.

It sounds like he is trying to cheat the test so he can get a little bit more gas from the doc.

Have not heard that before.
- "Hey guys, how do I purposely lower my test levels before I go to see my trt doc "?

Classic

alekaras's picture

why plz elaborate !!

PPGfreak's picture

Are you purposely trying to deplete your muscles so you look out of shape? Or is there some type of benefit from this that I don’t know of?

press1's picture

You've been into bodybuilding and steroids for years - why are you now starving your body of nutrients for 3 days?..
