Sauces
ad
I eat a lot of chicken / white rice and will normally throw a few other things in there along with franks hot sauce for flavor. I somehow clicked on a Joey Swole Sauces link and keep getting pop ups about it which has me wondering…..what am I missing in the world of delicious, low-cal healthy sauce toppings….any one have their go-to’s to help a bland meal taste better?

Bachans Japanese BBQ sauce. Thank me later. Chicken and rice with 2 servings of it every day, never gets old.
I picked up a few of the Joey Swoll sauces at a local store. They’re not bad. My go to’s have been the G Hughes sauces. Zero sugar and low cal. I eat a ton of shrimp and love to sit down with a bunch and have cocktail sauce with it. So I use the zero sugar ketchup mixed with super spicy horseradish.
I bought a sample pack of the flavor taste co sauces to try them out. The spicy garlic parm is good. I have used that one the most. The buffalo blue cheese is good if you like blue cheese. It is very blue cheese forward. The honey mustard is ok. Not a fan of the honey siracha, and haven't tried the BBQ sauce one. I have some of the southwest ranch on the way.
Other than that the g hughes sugar free sauces are good. I like the Japanese BBQ sauce one a lot on meat and rice bowls. Just tried the sweet chili sauce one tonight and it is really good.
The g Hugh’s sugar free bbq sauces are fire. Literally taste like normal bbq sauce.
Low sodium Greek seasoning, coconut aminos, low sodium taco seasoning (or make your own) check out true made sauces as well
A-1, low-sodium soy sauce, fish sauce, oyster sauce, homemade balsamic reduction (just simmer balsamic vinegar until it reduces by about 60-70%; it turns sweet and tangy), Miracle Whip lite version, homemade tzatziki (I add paprika and cumin), and the prepackaged gravy mixes in all kinds of flavors. Most are only around 20 calories per serving.
I also cook my rice in bone broth instead of water. It’s an easy way to add a lot more flavor without much extra effort.
When you’ve been eating a bland bodybuilding diet year after year, you start finding, and appreciating, the little things that add a ton of flavor for almost no calories. It’s one of the easiest ways to stay consistent without feeling like you’re eating plain chicken and rice every meal.
I make a lot of nonfat greek yogurt tzatziki: 1/2 cup nonfat greek yogurt, cucumber grated through the small holes of a box grater into the yogurt, one clove raw garlic grated into the yogurt, lemon zest, 1 tsp lemon juice, salt and pepper.
