+ 8 Let’s Build the Ultimate Gym Bro Shopping List (Share Yours!)

Thought this could be a fun and useful forum — a spot to share what ends up in your cart (? trolley @press1 ?) each week.

Everyone’s diet is a bit different (cutting, bulking, lazy-maintenance-mode), but seeing what other people buy can be great for new ideas.

The goal: build the ultimate shopping list that covers quality, convenience, and a bit of variety — not just chicken, rice, and regret. Financial tiers can be incorporated or not mentioned.

I’ll start with mine:

Protein: chicken, sausages, turkey, eggs, canned tuna, salmon, whey iso powder, Greek yogurt, lean ground beef, and a cut or two of steak if I don’t have any frozen.

Carbs: rice, oats, potatoes, low carb tortillas/wraps,, sourdough bread.

Fats: olive oil, avocado, peanut butter, mixed nuts, rare cheeses.

Crunchy Water (veggies): spinach, broccoli or broccollini, frozen mixed veg, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, green beans, and peppers (bell, jalapeño, habanero, Serrano, etc.)

Extras: cottage cheese, raw milk, frozen berries, coffee (black/or sugar free sweetened), dark chocolate for sanity breaks/yogurt additions, and popcorn for the same/mindless movie food I don’t feel too guilty about.

I try to keep it simple — whole foods, a few quick options for busy/bad days, and local-grown stuff where possible. My rule of thumb: if it helps me hit macros without tasting like cardboard and regret, it earns a spot on the list. We get our veggies and fruit from a farmers market, meats/dairy from a local raw farm, and the rest at whatever chain grocery store.

Excited to see what everyone else’s staples are — especially budget hacks, quick meals, or brands you swear by. Bonus points for “underrated” items people might not think of, and/or new ideas of ways to use certain items.

I am hoping this can serve as a continually updated modern list with knowledge, efficacy, sourcing, and ideas being forefront!

Alright bro Smurff … that’s my grocery list.. nothing fancy, just what actually works for me and keeps me functioning like a semi-responsible adult:

Protein:
• Chicken (obviously)
• White fish
• Salmon once in a while
• Filet mignon here and there when I’m feeling bougie
• Liquid egg whites
• Whey protein (lifesaver specifically on busy days)

Carbs:
• Rice (the king)
• Boiled potatoes
• Cream of rice
• Oats
• Cereal (sometimes adding it post workout )

Fats:
• Whatever comes from the whole foods I’m already eating
• Olive oil
• Brazilian nuts (my “daily multivitamin”)

Veggies:
• Spinach
• Broccoli
• Cucumber
• Zucchini

Extras:
• Fat-free yogurt
• Protein bars … I keep trying different brands hunting for “clean macros,” but it’s always the same trap. They taste good, they lie to me, and I fall for it every single week.

Cheat Meals (a.k.a. sanity moments):
If I’m keeping it “clean-dirty”:
• Huge steak + potatoes + rice + salad + dessert… basically a full feast.

If I’m in “fast and reckless mode”:
• Burgers. Always burgers.
McDonald’s, Five Guys … whatever’s closest and smells like poor decisions.

Achilles’ heel:

These are the things I try to avoid but somehow always end up in my hands:
• Protein bars
• Chocolate bars
• Cookies

I “save them for post-workout,” but let’s be honest … once you open one, the rest magically disappear. Absolute weakness. I just try to keep them out of sight so I don’t ruin my whole week in 3 minutes.

That’s my weekly rotation … simple, effective, gym bro-friendly… except for the traps I pretend not to see !

Cereal, cereal, cereal, milk, yogurt, eggs bacon rice pasta chicken cheese sauce. Water water water water. More cereal. Ice cream. Peanut butter. Cream cheese English muffins. That covers the basics. Of course some pop tarts and cereal bars. The occasional random nuts. And yeah

I have a jar of bone broth sitting in my fridge, bit no clue what to use it on. Wonder if I could use it as an additive alongside my soy sauce in chicken and rice ? I think that was my idea when I bought it almost a year ago...

I get Aldi’s protein tortillas/wraps instead of low carb. The protein ones are pretty low carb themselves and have the bump in protein.
Easy treat > protein tortilla with peanut butter, cream cheese, and a little protein powder mixed together.

Your list is pretty spot on for my liking. I cant eat steak though, it gives me gout:/ I still eat that shit every once in awhile and just deal with it. Even if its cooked well done, I still get big toe pain. I love a juicy Bloody steak too :(

Only few adds i would have are guac for my rice and chicken and amenda beans. I love Amenda beans, beans beans, the magical fruit, the more ya eat, the more ya toot, the more ya toot, the better ya feel. Beans beans for every meal.

Yeah we call them Shopping Trolleys here - we often say 'I'll go grab a trolley' lol

Trolley can also be used to say 'Head' as can Noodle, and Canister Lol
