Can I take a 2 week diet break then resume cutting?

ad

I have been cutting/dieting since February 1st. Truthfully though, I think I was really just eating at maintenance for February and March, and slowly recomping. I only really started a heavy duty cut on April 1st, and have been cutting hard since April 1st. I am down about 10 lbs now. I am about 14% bodyfat (see pics in my other post here). I am going on vacation in 2 weeks and I want to enjoy it. So I was thinking of having a few refeeds and going into maintenance during those two weeks, have a little rebound, then pick up the diet again when I'm back. Thoughts? Is this stupid? Seems like this approach is better than just crash dieting for months straight.

Enjoy your vacation man. Unless you’re prepping for a show vacation isn’t the time to be worrying about your diet too much, or at all really. Unless your on cycle, then you’d want to stay relatively strict so you aren’t wasting time on gear. 2 weeks on vacation won’t set you back too far. Even if you go crazy after a week back on strict diet and training you’ll be pretty close to where you were before you left.

Overall, it's not a bad thing for your body to get a break from extreme fasting for 2 weeks. It's kind of like the benefits of a weekly cheat meal. Just stretched out over two weeks Smile

I’d just go to maintenance and take a break. April to now is a decent time frame.
I prefer to do shorter more intense cuts and masses instead of drawing things out over an extended period of time.
Maybe even extend that maintenance to really solidify that setpoint, give yourself a physical and mental break. Push it out a few more weeks and then hit it hard again.
You could also consider carb cycling or having some low days each week to offset but I still think a break could do you some good.
Just keep it rationale and sensible.

Take a break enjoy it with your family you can still make smart food choices while away. Try and get some exploring done and get some steps in to increase output. You have been dieting a good while so the body could probably do with a break to reset then get back down to baseline when you get back.

No “refeeds.” Those are only really necessary when you’re deep in the cut, as in 7-9%, and need carb loading to help make that final push to get lower. At 14% bf you don’t need one.

Use the vacation as a 2 week break from your diet. Don’t overdo it and end up in a massive surplus and then get back on track after you get back.

I wouldnt call it break, I suggest that you eat more carbs during those days, and also i suggest reduce the cardio time you do everyday. you can change maybe protein sources. try not to mess up your diet and gi sytem eating more than what you need.

Are you low carb or just caloric deficit or both?

Both. 250g carb training days and 150 non training days.

If it were me.... I would eat in a very limited time window to stay metabolically flexible. So I would make sure to eat in a 8 hour window or less but be more flexible on what I ate during that smaller time window.
