Vial storage
ad
So I went to take inventory of my stock pile of stuff so I could get what I needed for my next run ordered. Turns out some of my vials have been laying sideways in my box and three of them have wet labels. I know they weren't wet when they got put in there. I typically don't go into this box unless something is going in it or when I need something out. So I'm not inspecting it regularly. I know if oil can get out bacteria can get in. I'm miffed and not exactly sure what to do here. I could make sure I store all my vials upright. Or shouldn't it matter if the vial is laying on it's side or not it shouldn't leak.
Thanks

After reading through this post and replys it looks like I'm getting a new stash box today as mine only allows the vials to lay sideways
You need an essential oils case mate.
Can be found on Amazon and are foam inside perfect for vials
good one
Thanks Mak!
I store mine on their side. Never had a problem yet but maybe I’m just lucky. Damn, I’m gonna have to get a new tackle box.
I always rubber band mine together so they don't fall over.
I bet there is now more than a dozen stash boxes neatly organised with upright vials since this thread was put up. I know mine will be tomorrow.
Solid post mate.
Thanks mate. Check the link I posted below. Nice and tidy

Looks like something that would keep them upright even if someone bumped the container they were stored in.
AnonLooks like the container for that would be a tackle box, which is a great idea.
Yeah they have boxes that already have the trays in them. I just figured most of us already have boxes we use.
Maybe a 410 on for amps.
Yeah not that it would matter for leaking purposes but for organizing yeah that would work
basskiller89After reading this ..
A leveler, 6 ziplock bags, small wooden blocks were obtained
My storage game is now next level
Pictures or it didn't happen.
basskiller89she said she doesn't want to be photographed bc she knows I'm going to put the pics online
story of my life lol
Vials shouldn't leak regardless. I would always store gear upright though. I am paranoid about the solvents eating away at the stopper if storing for a long time, especially with high solvent gear like DHB or high mg stuff. If it doesn't look cloudy it may still be ok but who knows especially with UGL.
That is a good point about the stoppers. I never considered that
HeavygameI have some stuff stored laying down on there side about 2 years old now and they are fine, maybe depends on the supplier or whatever
Just found some older test vials that we’re stored on their side for a few years. Seemed fine until I popped the top. Oil/solvents has permiated through the silicone stopper. All the vials were the same.
Went from happy that I discovered them, to sad as I tossed them in the trash.
Son of a bitch. How long do you think they were like that
Don’t know. They were a couple years old. Stored in a dark cool place, but on their side. No leakage. My guess would be about a year, but who knows.
AnonThat's called drug abuse
Evidently I have a problem.
AnonI conduct spot checks to ensure none have been knocked on their sides, apparently I have a problem as well.
3 wet labels, ....... are all 3 leaking??
Or is 1 leaking and 2 have fluid transfer??
They weren't near each other in the box and the cardboard isn't wet so how much actually leaked
It's not worth it to gamble with your health.
You've got to be careful how you fondle your vials so they don't get wet...
Dominick77In my opinion, regardless of how it was stored, upright or not, it should not leak. That comes from improper sealing from the manufacturer in my opinion. However, when I store my excess gear, I do always make sure they are upright to prevent any oil from being in contact with the rubber stopper on top of the vial. I prefer the oil not in contact with anything but the glass when I am storing it away. I personally wouldn't use any vials that leaked, but that is my personal choice. Maybe you can contact the source of the vials that leaked and they will replace it, because there should be no reason for leakage and I would expect more from a source than that. Proper sealing procedure to ensure sterility and maintain product contamination is just as important as the quality of the gear itself. High quality potent is basically useless if its contaminated. Some might argue that its nothing a whatman filter cant fix, true, but I pay for gear and I do not want the hassle of having to filter it.
You were spot on with that reply bro. Improper sealing for sure. Yes I store mine upright but who's to say my old lady didn't bump the safe cleaning or something like that and one or all fell over. That stuff adds up quick. We go to check our supply and its all leaked out well there goes a few hundro maybe a grand out the window and I would be livid. So in my eyes it all comes down to proper sealing. Because I'm pretty sure that the vast majority of us take really good care of our gear to see that it is stored right and well taken care of.
X2
AnonWont certain oils/alcohols deteriorate the stopper as well? Laying on their sides would allow for full contact with the rubber stopper.
I store vials always upright. Its better if the oil hasn't contact with the gum.
Regarding the leaking, I had also already a few vials they came leaking from transport or cause I forgot to store them upright. Its a sign for me that its bad quality cause every good source has well cramped flip offs. I wouldn't use them but thats just how I do it.
Stay safe(sterile) !
Yeah I'll have them all upright now. Not sure how they ended up on their side. It is what it is. I'm debating on filtering the oil and transferring to a sterile vial
I think when you use them soon thats not necessary but just my opinion. if they are already long in your storage box then filtering them is an option but if u replace them against new ones your defo on the safe side. Maybe other guys have a different advice!
agree
Two of them I've only had for a month and the other one I've had for a year or so
IMO if you have had 2 of them for only a month, then the seal was already faulty and you only found out because they are lying on their sides. Had they not fallen over - you probably would have gone ahead and used them. While oil out and air in sounds bad, unless they have been in an unhygienic environment, I would probably guess that they would be fine to use (after all, we pull air into the syringe to inject into the vial). You can filter just to make sure. Also, it depends on what the gear is - if it's not expensive and easy to order -- another option is just toss it and start with fresh. I have had vials that I have already used fall over and small amounts of oil leak from the puncture holes (some gear has really thin rubber stoppers) and used it. I'm still here to post about it.
Yeah two of them are mast e I just got. And the other is sust. I'm binning them to be safe.
Probably best on reflection. Maybe also get a different brand unless you are particularly fond of that one.
I'd replace them to be honest...
