Area-1255Bump.
I go early in the morning. Like 3:30am. Then I come home and make breakfast for everyone. Sometimes I wait until the kids go to bed, and I’ll go to the gym then. It just depends. Lots of things going on through the week sometimes. Boyscouts, wrestling tournaments on the weekends, etc. You have to learn to manage your time, and sometimes you’ll have to do shit you really don’t like doing. I hate leaving my boys at home to go to the gym, but that’s the game we play. Got to get the workouts in when you have the time. I’ve been a single parent for a long time, so I’ve got my routine down, and if it gets fucked up, I’m able to roll with it 95% of the time. But yeah, sometimes it just sucks.
Sometimes I wonder myself how I do it. But, there’s always a way. Weather it means waking up at 4am or going to bed past midnight. I trained and competed in two shows last year. Raising two girls on my own and I literally mean on my own. It’s tuff and I make huge sacrifices to live this lifestyle.. How bad do u want it
I’ll get one off to preschool the other one to school. Hit the gym before or after work. Pick em up and go on. I base everything around them. So my life style doesn’t effect them. If it’s means getting little to no sleep sometimes so b it.
I've raised my son since he was 5, he's a teenager now and now I have a wife, but for several years it was a juggling act, but I got it done... where there is a will, there's a way brother.
) and once in a while I dropped him off at the daycare at the gym, but I tried not to do that too much.
The thing that worked for me was I got him into sports, he played everything year around. Basketball, baseball, football.. I joined the closest gym to the practice field each season and drove right to the gym as soon as i dropped him off for practice and got my workout in, and drove back. Sometimes I did sprints or ran the stands at the football field (you should have seen all the drooling moms
One year, when he was 7 I think, the gym I was going to had swimming pool lessons for kids so I utilized that too.. you get the idea.. get you kid involved in some positive team activities, i promise you will be happy you did. I even had him doing hip hop dance one year..lol
Respect Sir.
U sound like me Lol. And have it all down u been doing it so long it’s not even an issue anymore
Great work bro.
Area-1255Simple, home gym at 5 AM before Work!
backup2018Lol
Area-1255Look at all these new members showing up to join in the discussion. Very interesting, especially a profile named "backup". Hmm.
backup2018Whats your point? Its a general discussion page is it not? Im a single parent raising a 6 year old daughter alone. Was wanting to know how others got on making time or finding time? Not that i owe YOU any explanation. What the hell are you?
Area-1255@backup2018 "what the hell are you?"
"I'm necessary evil".
~Bane.
You obviously don't have children mate. They are up at that time.
Area-1255Besides, if you work out right you only need a Half-hour. :-)
No way lol - A proper warm up takes at least that amount of time....
AnonWhat does a "proper warm up" entail? Put some metal in your ears, chalk on your hands, and smack your lady on the ass? That's the only "proper warm up" I know of.
Area-1255For me, a "proper" warm-up is a punching bag. Smacking the lady? That's before all that. There's no rest for the wicked!
AnonMy lady is in the gym with me everyday, so I always leave a chalk handprint on her ass. Pisses her off sometimes depending on the pants/shorts she's wearing.
We painted the living room yesterday day. I couldn’t resist....
I’m still in trouble I think. Sunday is usually a nice family dinner. She usually goes all out. I picked up kfc. No regrets though. Lol
Anonlol, it's hard to resist.
Depends on the numbers you lift.
AnonOnly big numbers my friend, 205 1R bench, 75lb 1R strict curl, 225 1R squat, 55lb 1R military press, and on a good day I can get like 3 and a half pull ups in one set.
basskiller89the strict curl max lol
Area-1255AnonIt been a grueling battle for 10 years, but I finally hit 75lbs. At 260lbs and 22" arms thats not bad is it? Of course most of that 22" is water and fat but if you stuff it Into a tight enough shirt, it will take the form of a body builder.
Beast!
Hahaha
LOL
Area-1255What a ridiculous assumption, did I mention that my home Gym is in the Garage?
I have a friend, she is single, the gym we both workout has an awesome program for the kids. For two hours they take care of your kiddo or kiddos while your working out. This isn't just day care, it's on site swim lessons to juddo to study program's. Her kid literally doesn't was to leave the gym. Keep in mind the membership in 100+ a month. The gym is called lifetime. Would be worth looking into bud. Win win for both parties involved. Then afterwards the kiddos are worn out, hit up some food then their due for a nap.
Lifetime is a lot more than $100 a month, but I don’t think there is a better gym out there, especially for families.
I pay 96 at mine. It's one top tier as well. But I am sure it will go up. Prolly got in in a teaser rate lol
backup2018Thanks everyon for your messages of support. Glad im not alone in this!
Gonna make it my yar to get in shape. I start this monday coming gonna get it all in check.
Thanks for th support on the father issue its hard but i know i can look back whn im old and weary and say wll i done what i had to do.
I'll be honest mate I have no clue how you accomplish anything let alone make time for the gym. My hat off to you, it's tough enough with the support of a partner and family around let alone doing it by yourself.
I hear that! Without my wife I would be constantly on the run school, sports, music and whatever else my kids are in at the time.
So yeah I give it to you bro, managing time is a priority
Awesome mate - Good for you! :-) Your family should always come first no matter how much training means to you as ultimately they are the ones that love & care for you not the weight discs. Try make the best use of the time you have when you are actually in the gym and prep as much as you can so you are ready to go as soon as you get there - no wasting time chatting and messing about on the phone. Life is all about balance, I help out at local AA meetings speaking & mentoring etc and find that when both that & training are going well it makes life more than worth living rather than just putting everything into training and neglecting the other.
backup2018Thanks mate, Its hard but im gonna o it this year. No more excuses!! Its just hard lik said witht the brokn sleep etc and zro hlp from her mum. Wacth this space!
Hello Sir,
I believe it is all about setting up priorities the right way and have a balance in life. As a single parent you may have to give extra time to your kids which would be priority number one. However it is extremely hard to have a nice and happy family when your basic needs like food, safe home etc are not covered , this is based on 'Theory of Maslow's hierarchy' and therefore you end up prioritizing your work and incomes habit fairly high to cover the basic needs.
Now fitness training would fall in to the group of "Esteem Needs'. Based on the theory that I mentioned above you will not be able to jump directly to this level and be happy until your basic priorities are covered.
Once that's covered then you monitor your daily calendar and see where you could potentially squeeze in your workout without harming other aspects of life. First thing in the morning could potentially be the time you could get this positive habit covered and get it out of the way for a day. That would mean early morning start but that's what you have to do to be successful in all the aspects in life.
Successful people will have their life balanced and everything would be in moderation - love, rest, food, training etc, you do not want to exaggerate any of aspects of life.
Now not sure if this is going to help you, more likely just a reminded for myself.
Regards
backup2018Youre abs right mate. I need to find a happy balance! I hate looking at my old photos as im not what i once was. I know i can have it back tho and im willing to put th work and ffort back in time to gt off my ass!!
Not sure how old she is, but my youngest likes to tag along just to play with the other kids in the daycare area.
I did the single parent thing for years with my older daughter. The early years are the toughest. Taking them into the men’s room in public, and trying to hold their ass 6” above the toilet and telling them to just go, while you’re trying to not touch the floor with your shoes cuz some guys can’t aim. It gets easier though.
Check out a halfway decent commercial gym. Home equipment is another good option. When it was just the two of us, my dining room was the gym. Even back in the apartment days, my room was a mattress on the floor and the shitty weider Olympus system I bought when I was 18. I still have that peice of junk stored. I can’t seem to give it away, but it got me through some hard times.
Best of luck.
backup2018Shes 6 and stuck to me like glue lol!! Her mum abandoned us so its been me and her th last year. Whn she gets hom from school she makes me take my outdoor clothes off so knows im not going anywhere lol god love her. Its th broken sleep with her waking thats th killer. Just gonna suck it up and get the most out of it whil shes at school or not zombie or not lol
Definitely tough stuff, but that’s what life is all about. I look back, and my daughter saved me. I’d hate to imagine how I’d have ended up if she didn’t come into my life. Like Sam said below, looks like you got it together. Involve her when you can. They love to sit on your shoulders while you do push ups.
Buddy I love my kids so much I can't imagine if one of there moms abandoned my kids they may have abandoned me but I'm grown so it's not that big a deal +1 for being a father
backup2018Thanks mat that means a lot. I had to beg her mums sister to take her for a fw hours on nye so sh could her we sisters and cousins. This was don on video chat as i got m little girl a phon so sh has whatsapp and talks to her mums side of the family. So she went down to see her aunt after haring the child bgging to come. Well anyway her mum lives one street away and didnt ven go and se our daughter no xmas pressies or nothing. I was in bits for her. Had to go to the bathroom to commppos myself. Poor we child took it all in stride too all sh wanted was to se her sistrs and her cousins. Her mum has since got her sistrs to block my daughters number so sh cant ring and have my childs mum run th risk of talking to her. Like who the fuck dos that? its sick. To think i spent 6 yars with that p.o.s
Sounds like you have your priorities right to me. If you can't make the gym do bodyweight exercises and have her join in.
backup2018She sits witih me in the other room where i keep my weights but im awful scard of her getting in the way and clobbering hr with dumbbell lol!! Shes loves curling th we plastic 3 kg dumbbells with me. Getting me to feel her muscles after shes done lol we have good craic like lol
I’m also not a single parent but I beleive I’m knocking it out early. I train at 530 am.
I’m not a single parent, but I work at least 60 hrs a week & have to work Monday- Saturday every week, plus I’m a preacher and a missionary so it’s like I have 2 other full time jobs... I’m a full time husband who taking care of my wife who’s been down for a few months now & that means the house & laundry & cooking as well, pluuuuusss I’m a full time Dad & Grandpa. The only way I can fit in the time I need is to sacrifice my rest & get up before everyone else is up & hit the gym around 4:30-5:00 am. It’s hard, but it’s worth it!!
Good for you man! You seem like a quality guy, no homo +1
+1 For helping people out. That’s a rare quality these days.
