+ 1 Calethetic, plyometrics and isometrics

ad

I've always felt that basic calethetics should be included in my training because it makes me a more functional person being able to move my own body weight. I've seen many big guys who are very strong but can't do a pull up. I understand their goals may not require it but I highly enjoy alot of calesthics. Push ups, dips, pull up, lunges, chin ups, levers. But recently I've been pairing with plyometrics (explosive movements like the clap push up, box jump or clap pull up) and isometrics. I've gotten up to 85secs holding a chin up and I get a huge Tricep pump holding dips.
I wondering who else includes these techniques in their training and if you haven't tried then I'd encourage you to try, it's fun trying new things in the gym and it's a hell of a workout trying to be explosive and then holding the tension to failure.
Try this some time..
Weighted dips
Plyo push up clap
Iso bench dips hold till fail

Weighted nuetral grip pull up
Plyo lat pull up clap
Iso Chin up hold till fail

These are some of my favorite to superset after my strength phase of training

I have recently incorperated more pushups and its variations into my chest and tri training.....there was a time that i worked up my volume to doing 40× 25 reps with roughly 60 sec rest between setsr as well as 10× 50reps. This was done when i had no access to weights while incarcerated.i had made up a dip routine that would fry the most seasoned convict....it involves picking a number of reps usually 12 will be plenty...do 1 dip and hold in the bottom position" in the bucket" as they say for 5 a second hold then do 2reps then hold, 3 reps then hold and proceed all the way to 12. Then if your really ambitious count backdown backwords, 12 reps then hold, 11 reps then hold, and so on.......
Another favorite of mine was pull ups doing pyrimids...start out with 15, then partner does 15, you do 14, he does 14, and all the way down.to 1 rep......with pullups not many guys could do that starting at 15.....give it a try...your rest time is only as long as it takes for him to finish his set...
