Pre-Workout Meal?
ad
Morning all,
Yesterday I posted "Post-Workout Protein" which seemed to generate a good discussion so today I thought I'd be boringly predictable & ask about Pre-workout eating.
I currently hit the gym at 0600hrs, so I'm up at 0500hrs & neck 25-30g/whey mixed with water & eat 3 teaspoons of peanut butter, I stay away from carbs as I want to burn as much BF as possible, it seems to be working well for me at the moment but I just wondered what your thoughts & ideas were?
Many thanks for any advice.

Personally for me I find around 25g of carbs preworkout can go a long way. You'll burn through those a lot quicker than you think and in turn can cause more nitrogen retention signal pathways through increased intensity at the gym. in the long run the increased muscle mass will burn more calories through the day when youre not exercising and make fat loss easier
I typically do 40g oats and 60g pineapple 45min pwo with a shake or blended tuna. but I'm a carb whore
this all depends on your goals as well. if you are trying to diet, i feel like burning fat at the gym is ok, but i prefer to use my carbs around gym time to fuel performance and burn fat at other times of the day. i want to make sure i hit the gym as HARD as i can, and a few carbs preworkout really go a long way over 0 pre workout carbs for me. im dieting for a show right now and all my carbs (its not too many) are in my preworkout and post workout meal, i still burn plenty of fat during other times of the day as long as i am in a caloric deficit.
something like gambit suggested with cream of rice, protein powder would be an easy one for you that would digest quickly and not leave you feeling bloated. i have eaten meals like this before and i can lift 30-45 mins after eating the cream of rice. egg whites and oats is another great meal, it will digest a touch slower than the cream of rice though.
Hi SlowBro, cheers for reply.
I might give the oats a go with water, leave them watery & blend in a bit of whey. That'll give me 45mins before I train + I always start with 20mins cardio so by the time I hit the weights it will be well digested.
sounds like a good plan bro. good luck with everything.
Cheers mate, same to you
Coke zero, cinnamon, and tuna. Throw it in the blender and enjoy.
i have been bouncing back and forth between 2 pre meals I am "testing". note both options i still do a nice intra. i am really into periwork (esp intra) workout nutrition now and i feel its paying off well.
i am testing recovery and how i feel in gym. if i need to get up and go option 1 cause i dont do well without to much in stomach. if i got 90-120 mins option 2, more so on legs days.
I get up have a few g of BCAA i am testing for a company
option 1:
about 50-60g of pro in water.
option 2:
a packet of cream of rice
40-50g of pro
tbsp of a nut butter.
my intra is
about 12g of EAAs
30-50g of HBCD (carbs)
some Cit mal, BA.
post workout is 50g of pro
then like 20 mins later around 50 more pro, 25-50 carbs (depending on goals). i may add some fats here.
Hi Gambit, cheers for your reply.
How long before you workout do you allow yourself to have option 2?
Sweet breads. My best lifting sessions come after blueberry muffins or biscuits with honey.
Peanut butter and banana sandwich
Probably one of the best sandwich combos going, could eat that all day long, lol
Yeah I feel shitty without carbs preworkout, carbs+beet root=pumped. Usually just hit heavy bag for cardio but on low carb days il change it up. For me personally on low carb days, eggs, aminos, strong black coffee or thermogenic. For even better fatloss il do fasted a.m. cardio and keep my heart rate 120-130 and push it out for as long as I can.
Wotcha Strongman, cheers for the reply.
Yeah I used to do my cardio & weights literally on nothing but thought I should at least take in some protein as I didn't think it was a good idea to train not having had any protein 7-8hrs. The joys of being an endomorph! Lol
Your telling me bro, cutting gets boring, lose strength and size but you look better. Il only do fasted cardio by itself, I cant lift shit in a fasted state, so Il do it at a different time. I always learn new things on these forums, great site to share knowledge.
I've never been cut, always been a tubby b'stard, lol but I'm on a mission to do it now, it's gonna b a long long road for me, with my body type & age but I'm not gonna give up. & your right about this site, it is great, I've already picked up a lot of tips & gotten great advice & I've only been in here a wk!
You can do it brother....just take one day at a time. This place is a vast source of info on everything and anything. We just need to be like a sponge and soak in all of this knowledge.
Cheers keola, + it's a great source of inspiration
