whey and casein mixes. good? or BS?
ad
whey being fast digesting and casein being slow digesting obviously..so if you mix them (as i am seeing with a lot of sup companies doing) it bro science to say that it will work as a time released mix whey digesting first then casein or will the casien slow down the whey? i think its bro science and use them individually..anyone have any thoughts or know any articles talking about this

The body utilizes the protein much better with a whey casein mix. Plenty of studies done on this fact
I don't think that protein synthesis would slow down if you combined the two. It's my understanding that fats will slow down the body's ability to metabolize protein so a shake mixed with whole milk post workout would definitely be counterproductive but I don't think some casein would hurt anything.
personally I us ON products for one reason they've been out forever and have stood the test of time I use whey and casein. the reason behind my logic is whey is a fast acting protein and soo many people sit there and think oh I ll take 2 shakes and be at 150 grams wrong your body is only going to use x amount at a time and the rest goes in the toilet, casein is different takes longer to digest so there fore your feeding yourself off it instead of your body digesting a ton of whey protein and then wasting the rest, or having to drink 3 shakes of whey I personally take whey as soon as I wake up and as I go to sleep being a hard gainer with a high metabolism the last thing I want to do is not have the nutrition I need while im sleeping. I do use whey before and after a workout. but im also one of those people that believes food over supplements because when push comes to shove its a supplement that isn't regulated by the fda so food is always king, those are just my opinions.
IF debunked the myth that the body can only utilize x amount of protein at once. That myth has been spread all across the internet and has no basis in science.
Agree completely with the fact that real food is 1,000 times better than supplements. They are there for just that purpose, to supplement at certain critical points during the day... Before / during / after workout. If you're on the lazy side at night take casein. I personally only take protein supplements Before / during / after workout and eat a cup greek yogurt before bed.
When talking about mixes its my opinion that's its just marketability. If a company comes out with a new time released all day protein its because they want a new way to make money from a different approach. Considering the fact you need to consume calories every 2-3 hours the all day release to me makes no sense at all in comparison to whey (day) and casein (night). The only thing that would make a difference would be type of whey as using an isolate would be much faster acting.
The only thing I will say is it makes sense from a standpoint that if you're an unhealthy person, doesn't exercise, eats bad... this is a better alternative than what you have been doing, but if your a lifter and on this site I would imagine you're speaking more in terms of growth and recovery... in which I don't see a place for these mixes personally.
Funny... I was just having a conversation about this last night on FB.
Depending on when you plan on using it, could be good or bad.
Casein digest and releases very slowly compared to whey. Whey is designed to provide a more rapid release into the bloodstream, which is what your recovering muscles need post workout.
Casein is designed to provide a slower, more gradual release into the bloodstream. This is beneficial to you when you're sleeping or during the day when you're needing a more constant supply of amino acids for tissue repair.
Combining the two gets complicated because the proportions of each protein differ. If your focus was post workout recovery with a several hour long gap between intake and next meal, then a blast of whey with a modest amount if casein would be beneficial because the whey would satisfy immediate demands while the casein would provide what's needed for either energy during carb restriction of tissue repair between workouts.
so your ruling on this is that casein does not slow down the digestion of whey? so what do you think of the mixes that the sup companies are pushing lately
I do not believe any protein to slow the absorption of any other protein. Of another type if nutrient, yes, but not another protein. Enzymes will dismantle the peptide chain without prejudice. Larger chains just take longer to be completely dismantled for absorption.
As far as the media and propaganda goes, I'm not hip to it. I try to keep it simple as possible. I don't buy casein/whey mixes. I buy then separately and mix then according to the demand. If I want them mixed, I just drink milk.
nice post doss
