Injured at week 14 of a 16 week cycle...suspend or not?

ad

I am just going into week 14 of what was planned to be a 16 week run of Test E (500/wk) and EQ (600/wk.)
Things were going great until a few days ago when I messed up my back bad. Doctor is treating it as a muscle pull...will re-evaluate if it doesn't respond. Haven't lifted since then, and will likely need to take a week off. ...It Seems everything brings the back into play :(

Looking for advice, is there good reason to continue the next two weeks? Or should I just go back to cruise?

Follow up: I had the MRI yesterday afternoon. They found no evidence of spine/disc or hip issues. I suspected this as it has started to heal, and that pointed to muscular. This morning I am pretty free of pain, but still a lot of soreness on the right side. MD is calling it aggrevation of right-side external obliques and gluteus medius. Based on that I can configure future workouts accordingly.

Pretty good news, actually. I have been stretching and walking hoping to be back in the gym in a couple days.

Thanks to all who offered assistance.

I'm just now reading this Jason and I'm overjoyed that it was nothing serious! So sorry for your misfortune and worry!
I'm thankful for the good news and am glad that you're feeling better! You'll be tearing up the gym in no time brother! :))

JASON_C's picture

Thanks brother, I actually went to the gym for a short, light arm workout this morning, so as not to stress my lower back. It felt great to be there after a week and a half.

Glad to hear bro.

Dude that's awesome -
At least you know you have good spine -
That's tells you that all your lifting hasn't caused any degenerative problems -
Good luck-
Did you see the MRI and look at it with doc?

JASON_C's picture

I did see it. He was looking at the distances between the discs and felt pretty confident that there was no spinal issues. I didn't ask about degeneration...I suppose he would have mentioned it if it were pronounced. He is sending copy and the report to my doctor...I will ask him.

I'm sure you're aware of this, but please take it slow when you start back up. Ramp your workouts up very slowly. Take two to three weeks of lighter workouts and gauge where you're at. It may be a bit frustrating, but it will be worth it in the long run. Thanks for the update and best of luck to you.

I hate that I will have missed two weeks...but yes, I definitely will ramp up VERY slowly.

This sux I know how you feel I have a herniated disc and a bulging disc I had to cut out squats and now use the leg press for my main leg exercise. If it's a herniation I think you should go back on cruise if it's strained muscle then seems like the cycle would help. I hang upside down for 10-15 mins a day i tried all sorts of things but that is what has helped me to start hitting gym hard again. Hope this helps Jason

I would finish up the cycle but take time off from the gym until your back is 100%

If you were planning on cruising anyway, I'd just hop back on the cruise dose until you're recovered. No use wasting gear,

Would also try IGF if you haven't tried it already, helped me recover quickly from some serious injuries in the past.

JASON_C's picture

The gear is not an issue...I was just wondering if it would have any beneficial effect(s).
I have not done igf. I am planning on an mri this week if it doesn't ease up. That may be an option.

Be very careful of exercises that cause flexion of ur low back. I have found that using an exercise ball and yoga for core workouts is the best for this type of injury.

You can still work out but form is important and so is making sure you aren't doing things that cause pressure on ur vertebra. ABSOLUTELY NO DEADLIFTS! No sit ups, no squats either!

I have had a few back injuries and have had surgery as well. Do some research bro. If u need some info just pm me and I'll help u out on some good exercises to help with ur back. And cut the chiropractor out, it'll make things worse if u have a herniated disk. Take it frome me, I've lived this life for nearly a decade bro.

Arock's picture

I go to chiro mostly to get the stim and stretch
I feel like with my back gotta do something -
Only cost me a $20 copayment and so far
I've kept surgery at bay

JASON_C's picture

This has me bummed, because I have never been inactive for a week...in my life.
If it doesn't show signs of improvement in a day or two, I am going to escalate and perhaps mri, to see if there is a disc issue going on.

FR sent, I would appreciate info on alternative back exercises. Thanks brother.

Just out of curiosity. Are u having any pain radiating down your leg or in the hip or thigh? Or better yet, are there certain movements that cauw more pain/ radiating pain?

JASON_C's picture

Across my lower back. I can lay flat or I can stand. Sitting...especially getting up from sitting is really painful. Bending is difficult...so I bend my knees to pick something up.

freakmode2's picture

But no pain down the leg? Thats a positive! Try ( gna sound homo) to squeeze u ass cheeks tight while focuu on perfect posture and hold bout 30 seconds while standing. Also while laying on the floor ( not bed) and slowly pull each knee to ur chest for 30 seconds. Do these in sets of three each. Should help. Also try bringing both knees to chest in the same scenario and squeeze tight. Try not to bend forward at all costs and keep ur posture perfect.

If u " have " to sit. Use a small pillow in the small of ur back to maintain the arch in ur back

JASON_C's picture

thanks...I will give it a try. I am going to try to go to work tomorrow...at least for half a day. I have control over sitting/standing etc. I already decided I am going to take a laptop and put it on a box and work that way...standing.

freakmode2's picture

Yeah no problems. Ill send ya some info tomorrow on other stuff with pics if possible. I feel ur pain brother. Finish that cycle and then cruise. No reason why the higher levels wld hurt imo. Ill keep an eye on this post too. If ur not having the radiating nerve pain down the leg I wld say wait on mri etc.

JASON_C's picture

I am beginning to think my doc had it right. My right side lower back is still very stiff, but it is not inducing the excruciating pain deep in my lower back this morning. He believed it was a muscle pull, and recommended laying low. And if, next week it isn't healing, we will know it's something else and proceed with an mri, etc. Def looking a bit better this morning.

freakmode2's picture

Accepted.

I know its hard to be active with back pain. However, you gotta keep it moving. If ur sitting get up bc it will just get worse. Imma send u some links when I get to my computer of stuff you shld be doing to help make it better.

Arock's picture

Btw- I found that when I did move and do light cardio the back responded better
When I laid ass in bed it didn't heal but seen to aggravate it
Get blood flowing - it carries with it all the goods to get healthy
No circulation no healing

Arock's picture

If it's that painful I doubt muscle pull-
Defiantly rest rest although you gotta move-
I have herniated l4 and l5
I beat it wo surgery by good form, chiro and weekly massages
I couldn't walk straight and couldn't tie shoes-
I think it was bad form from a leg press
No reason to stop you gear-
Just take some time-
Perhaps show up at gym just to show up-
Ultra light weights
Is it first time?
Do not do leg press heavy if it's low back -

JASON_C's picture

I have had some issues with back strains, but this is the worst ever. I have been really careful about form and weight and thought I had it behind me. It came on while doing deadlifts...
I am going to give it a couple more days, and if it doesn't subside, go back and have them investigate hernia, disc path.

I am heading to the gym to stretch a bit and walk on the treadmill...that's about all I can do right now. Sucks.

Arock's picture

Just a heads up-
My doc didn't order an MRI
so I just scheduled appt and had one -
When you self-pay
An MRI lumbar spine is $375-500
I figure if I spend all this damn money on food and gear and treatment - what's another $450 to know for sure what this crazy pain in my back is-
No regrets either- now I know for sure and don't need some fucking doc giving me his"best guess"

JASON_C's picture

My doc is an athlete himself and doesn't mess around. He knows I take an active role in my care and is pretty agreeable.

Arock's picture

That's why I say it ain't a strain -
I spent few months at chiro and massage
And have good days and bad-
If it's strain in should heal
If structural -it's permanent and about managing the pain-
Good luck
I'm right there with you bro
