I have one of those too. I converted it to NG and installed a switch and outlet. Does everything but my central air and never have to get gas from the station.
You kinda sound like me. Im on the gulf coast and i rigged mine up to run off gas and propane. Sometimes the regulator freezes with propane if the tanks are a little over full. But besides that runs with no issue. After katrina. There was debris 20ft in the streets. I am literally ground zero no houses survived for 10 miles. There was no gas but plenty of propane tanks in the debris
