Don't stay in the gym for over an hour and eat as much as possible. His bmr is probably very very high. Food and heavy weights and not over training. I was at about 140 when I started working out and I'm at 190 he is a hard gainer for sure. Best of luck.

The best advice I can give is to not overtrain and to set realistic goals for yourself. Naturally I gain the most size out of heavy weight (6-8 reps). I would only do 2 sets to failure on any two exercises a day. I never went to failure on isolation movements. There is a fine line between growth and taxing the cns to the point of wasting. Eat a diet high in protein an carbs and sleep 8 hours a night no matter what. I think it is best to take a week off every 2 months to let your muscles and tendons rest. First and foremost have fun little brother. This is a long road and it has taught me many lessons about myself and how to deal and cope with life

I remember those days; skinny as hell and AAS on my mind.

Lots of carb loading, sickening amounts of peanut butter, mass gainers (I like MHP Up Your Mass - mixes so well with peanut butter), and restricted gym time.

Well Mrs N, you can encourage your brother with the fact that at his age I was not even carrying the muscle he has already. That is why you can't ever get a good measure of a young man's potential pre and mid puberty.

My oldest son who is now in the Navy was a skinny kid up to 18 he wrestled and did mma but couldn't gain a pound. Now when he comes home on leave he is muscular, ripped and 30lbs heavier. No juice either he is geared more towards strength and endurance but his size keeps coming. But looking at your brother I believe he is going to do just fine in the years to come!

Peanut butter protein shakes is where it's at. You add the peanutbutter. Lot of calories in there & at a young age as a ecto I would drink a lot of them

I helped my little cousins get started in the gym. Stronglifts 5X5 or Bill Starr 5x5. We also use these two programs to put weight on the kids at my old highschool for football. From JV to varsity they all start with either one of those programs. It's the best and quickest way to build natural.

P.S. Turkey Sandwiches

im an ectomorph too. when i started lifting i was 16 yrs old, 5'7 and 125lbs. after 6 months i still couldnt bench 135lbs. then i figured it all out. i made it a goal to gain 5 lbs a month for a year straight. i ate as much protein and carbs as possible, and i didnt take it easy unless i already got more then 5 lbs for the month. ate till it hurt. i got 45lbs that year. the only reason i came up short was because i broke my collarbone halfway thru. only supps i used were whey and creatine. the key is to eat until it hurts like 6 times a day tho.

manbearpig's picture

also when i started, i avoided exercises like the bench and squat and deads. but your bro needs to do these. his program should have shoulder presses, incline presses, flat presses, pull downs, rows, deads. it doesnt matter how weak you are when u start off. i was there before.

That's what it's all about dont worry about what everyone else is lifting. We all have to start somewhere and alot of us started in the same spot

Broctavius's picture

Definitely I started squat and bench with the bar.

I am by nature an ectomorph. What has helped me is high calorie protein shakes. You can add bananas, peanut butter, almond butter, yogurt, oils of your choice ect. Arnold, when bulking used to add heavy cream and lecithin granules to his shakes. I hope this helps!

I think nitti has got this one but he looks like an all out ecto...high carbs, complex or simple just pack then in and 1.25g protein per lb of body weight. He has the luxury of just packing food down at this point

Yes! I am the poster boy for the ectomorph! I was him. At least 1-1/2grams protein per lb or body weight. Lots of carbs. Calories shakes like Amplified mass XXX are good for just packing in dirty cals. It's a lot of sugar but it won't hurt him. Even creatine Monohydrate will help him retain water and build mass! But the key is eat eat eat'!! You gotta get him in the gym babes!

levelup's picture

ON makes a good mass gainer too, but u are right, food food and more food will take care if that. Shorter intense lifting sessions so he starts recovering sooner rather than burnin thru all of his stores from a prolonged training session

It's great that he works out already but what he needs is food. A lot of food. I was basically the same size as him when I was his age. The key to growth is food. I'd recommend he get about 9-10 hours of sleep a night also so that he can properly grow. One advantage to working out is that it can lead to an increase in appetite. I wouldn't worry one bit about how many calories he's burning when he's lifting weights or anything, he just needs a big diet. 6000 calories a day would be so much more than what he even needs to be putting on mass.

Nitti's picture

Hell no!!! No no no!! I'll help him out but he doesn't need to be even thinking about this.

That kid is going to really appreciate what you do for him. I would have loved to have someone guide me through that shit in my teens.
