+ 1 Shoulder Problems?
Or any mobility issues for that matter? All of us suffer injuries at one time or another, it's just a part of the life style we've chosen. However many of them could be prevented by proper warm-ups and mobility drills, but we're all hardheaded and would rather be crushing huge weights than doing proper injury prevention. Because of this we end up spending much more time trying to recover from injury than had we just prevented it to begin with. If your into any sport especially strength sports as we grow our mobility tends to take a backseat to "progress". I myself am guilty of this and have now had to make the tough decision to end my cycle early due to a back injury that could have been prevented. It's been a difficult time and decision as I absolutely love powerlifting but instead of being stubborn I'm going to try to take advantage of this injury and go back to the basics. Focusing on technique and really bring back my mobility to prevent future problems. Anyway I want to introduce you guys that don't already know about it to mobilitywod.com. Kelly is an absolute genius and has a video to help correct almost any problem you could have. Take the time to go through some and I promise you will leave with a better understanding of how your body works.

I'm 47, I trained most of my life in bodybuilding and power lifting (since age 13)... About 3.5 years ago, I had just finished a cycle and was at 230+ (5'9") super lean at ~ 8-9% bf...
I had a severe accident and shattered my right humerus in 7 places including the entire ball and tore my rotator cup...
Doc said I needed surgery to repair and a lot of physical therapy afterwards, but unfortunately I had just started a new job after being out of work for a few months and my insurance had a 30 day window before it kicked in...
Long story short, I could not afford the surgery so I let it heal on its own with no PT (150 a pop)!
Well, after my shoulder healed, but now I have what the docs have said is called frozen shoulder...I cannot lift my right arm above parallel to the ground...
I had given up on lifting ever again, but I couldn't take looking in the mirror anymore and I started working out a couple months...I'm making tremendous progress, but I'm limited as to what I can do in the gym. No incline bench, no shoulder work above the shoulders, etc...
Unfortunately my shoulder weakness is beginning to hold me back in other areas of training...
Any suggestions of how to free up the frozen shoulder?
It bums me out, I used to have monster bowling ball shoulders and I loved blasting them in the gym... :(
If anyone has advice, I'm all ears!
Thanks in advance,
Ernie
Parillo and Poloquin......the two gurus of power saved me from recurring stresses with simple warmups i saw "the old powerlifters" do. My current injury recovery....purely stupid. Hope you recover fast!
I currently have a partially torn labrum in my right shoulder and completely torn ucl in my left elbow. I pitched until I was 26 when the shoulder problems just became to much to over come. Had my third surgery on my shoulder the fix the labrum and remove a bad bone spur. Partially tore the labrum again during rehab. Been like that ever since. I rely heavily on resistance bands to get me warm and limbered up. Really doesn't cause me many issues, except for the occasional bursitis. My left elbow is a bit of a problem. It actually dislocates on me from time to time. Tore my ulnar culateral ligament and broke my humoral head a few years ago. I'm still able to bench around 400, but only use the smith machine on heavy days. Consistent range of motion is paramount for me, otherwise I can really set myself back physically. I've been unable to find any form of warming up that helps my elbow much to be honest.
1jakd_hipyContact Kelly through the website and see if he has a recommendation
I'll do it bro. I've got to have it replaced, but I want a cadaver ligament instead of taking one from my wrist. My insurance company won't pay for the donor ligament for some reason.
1jakd_hipyIt's because insurance company's are fucking crooks
Yep. A donor ligament means surgery on one body part. They want me to have surgery on two. I'm not excited about that
biggerthanyouI have some serious upper bicep tendinitis that i believe is referred to as weightlifter shoulder shit sucks
I absolutely ALWAYS do RC warm-up/mobility work pre-workout on pretty much ALL my upper body days, especially before bench and back exercises. The rotator cuff muscles are such precarious instruments of design on us humans, lol.
I suffered a setback a few years ago because I was training like an asshole, starting all cold without warming up, heavy shit right from the rip. Big mistake...for the longest time I couldn't even sleep on my left side and/or raise my left arm to hang something up/reach for something without grimacing in pain. Now I have some lagging bursitis, I believe...due to the shoulder impingement that I luckily rehabbed myself thru after realizing what I had done, and what was going to happen if I didn't knock off the dumb shit!! Like a TORN RC!!...that REALLY would suck!!
Realized the error of my ways...now I warm-up and cycle my training, every week is different..weights/reps depending on body-part and what I did last week with that muscle group...best decision I ever made in my book.
i can def relate with that. i jacked my rotator cuff up several years ago trying to do upright rows with some makeshift weights.. long story short i was out of commission for a minute. still to this day, if i don't have the bench just right it tweaks my shit
