Looks like crystals to me. You can also try a blow dryer if you have one. What ever way you do it once it starts to dissolve the oil will look cloudy not white cloudy but you will see a swirl in the oil.Let everyone know how it goes. It doesn't look like filter material,I've had that before and it looks like balled up lint. So I say no it's not filter material.
I bet its just crystal slivers.. depending what compound it is crystals can look brown gray and blond.The only other thing i could think of if it dont dissolve heated at 260f then i would leave it alone could be filter fibers.Im sure its just crystals

You'll need to bring the water up to about 80 degrees C. In a pan, gently heat up. Shouldn't need to bring to boil. It's not hair, it's crystalisation. Dont panic, it's fine.

If it dissolves with heat, it could be crystals. Hair won't dissolve with heat.
