Man this tread is making me paranoid! I'm always a little spooked having to deal with the mailman or in my case the mail Lady. Had a scare about a year ago, was expecting some gear in the mail, saw her pull up and put a package in the mailbox so I wait for her to drive off and as soon as I walk out the door and head toward the mailbox A COP car comes creeping down the street and pulls into a driveway across the street! Tried to act normal, and slowly headed back to the house. talk about nerve problems.

I think that would make anyone at least a little nervous. Probably just coincidence, of course. Hey, you played it safe, so no loss there!

that story gave me chills. Ive used a risky tactic in a similar situation that got me cleared. I told the guy that in this day and age with terrorists and other crazy fucks that if you are pushing some unknown package on me and I dont recognize you then you better get the fuck off my porch or im calling the cops. I think the notion of calling the cops on myself really threw him off. He must have understood that it really wasnt mine if I was willing to call the cops. Thats what "normal" scared, law abiding citizens do when people are being like that guy- call the cops... or threaten to.

good post. Its good for everyone to practice our story so in similar situations, that may happen eventually, it flows. I personally go pick up my shit at the PO. They leave notice I have a pack and I can scope the place out first. This why I am prepared and I can read the fuck at the PO instead of the other way around. I am on the offensive. If they start acting funny Ill just walk out no pack. Let them arrest me empty. IDGAF.

Reading your post makes this real bro. Did you do a shot of whiskey after? Also was this a dom or int situation?

I peobably wouldnt have answered the door period, i look thru the peep hole and if they look anything like a cop then im not answering shit lol. i will send the wife down to the post office any day of the week to get what ever it is before i answer the door for da POPO. Besides, where i live at in the past 3 monthes we have had over 30 reports of cop impersonators in which there have been quite a few women that have been raped and there still isnt anyone who has been caught. I get a little aggravated because how come us men dont get pulled over by a female po impresonator and get sexually assaulted. we as men get discriminated so badly these days!!

vocor's picture

great advice. It doesn't become awkward unless you answer the door.
And it's also a good point to say that it is funny who be implicitly trust . . . like someone coming to the door in uniform asking you to sign is universally trustworthy. Pope just spelled out the consequences in putting too much trust in strangers.

I had a funky experience with USPS as well. The gear I order is always small enough to fit in our community mail box with out me having to sign for it or have it delivered directly to me door. On one instance the Postl Worker knocked on my door asking that I sign for a package (Which was my gear). This had never happened before. It was so small that he could have easily left it in the community mail box with room to spare but he insisted that I sign for it. I told him that it was for my roomie who was not in and asked that he leave it in the mail box. He stated that he needed someone to sign for it or he would take it back to the post office. Long story short, I was so pissed that I drove to post office the next day a picked it up. No consequence luckily. All was good, but fk that scared the shit out of me. WTF!?

swolltroll's picture

Also something to consider is to act suprised but to sign for it. Than Don't open it for a day or so. That way if the deez knock on the door, you have an unopened package. Its not like youve actualy recieved the contents. You have no idea whats in it right?

vocor's picture

the logic sounds reasonable, but all they need is your signature to proceed. I know it is an extreme case, but as soon as you sign, you are in effect taking ownership and possession, and who would take ownership of something they didn't recognize?
The answer is, some folks would. I have signed for a fedex because it was handed to me, only to find it was for a previous resident. So again, your case makes sense.
But the law doesn't agree. You sign it, you own it. You have given the green light to investigation or search. You are at minimum guilty of possession.
An interesting book "Legal Muscle" gives some light on this.
Again, this is extreme for a dude ordering almost nothing, and clearly for personal use. But if LE wants the case, regardless of the reason, it'll happen. The only final key they need is your signature confirming your participation. Warrants have been triggered on this action.
Who needs it? Plz don't sign!

I didn't realize that I was sitting on a gold mine! Mine sits on my bookshelf right now. I thought you could still buy it through Amazon for $50.
Now, it appears to be a collectors item.
But alas . . . I pencil marked and dog earred a lot of pages, and a few red pen marks on a few pages. So I'll start the bidding at $2800!
Kidding . . . I'm keeping it. A helluva a reference, and sobering too.

Dude this same thing happend to me a random guy in a regular car ,regular clothes on ( kind of dressed up like a polo and khakis or somethin) and i was like Wtf ,me being a idiot and wanting my stuff I just signed got it and got it but it really kinda freeaked me out I have never seen or heard about this before my dad told me they sub contract some of the packageing delivery to out side drivers but I don't know this was like a month and a half ago nothing has happend and iv got plenty of packages since then ( always from the mailman since never got the random guy again )but hope there not watching or got me on a list or something

vocor's picture

hmm . . . that's really plausible that it was a subcontractor.
STILL . . . the OP handled it expertly. Kept his cool (while secretly freaking the f out).
I would have just wrote it up as a loss at this point. But in this case, the good bro wins . . . played it cool and correctly, and good his goody basket. +1 for sharing the story.

Anybody coming to my door and repeatedly trying to get me to sign for something is getting a warning to leave. After the second attempt, they are getting a chest-bump off the porch, over the bird-bath, and into the rose bushes.

chaztheman's picture

Haha fuck yea. If i lived in the country i would be like hold on. Go grab a shot gun and put in sum beef jerky chew an say get of my property boy. Wearing overalls and no shirt.

Just got to find the porch, bird bath and rose bushes now then they got ya ;)

maxamax's picture

damn thats nuts next time just answer the door in the nude. turn that shit into an awkward situation. if its a mail currier he will freak out but LE would hold his composure.

scootloko's picture

Thats a bold tactic bro, I bet it would work though lol
