Keeping Fitness in the Forefront.
Good morning all,
Lately it's been a struggle to balance my work/personal life and gym life. It's seems the more we become established in our careers, personal relationships, and life obligations, the harder it is to keep our obligations to keeping ourselves fit at a top notch level. Telling my girlfriend I've got to go to the gym even though I've been working late the last few days and haven't spoken two words to her, is always difficult. Telling my boss I can't attend a company function after work, time and time again, is most definitely hurting my chances of continuing to move up the ranks at work.
Having said that.
Physical fitness is not something I do to "stay in shape." It is not something I do because I'm looking for a hobby. It is not something I do to make others envious of my stature.
It is a way of life, a reason to keep moving forward. It is the constant battle against time and age, and I am unwilling to lose. If I'm not improving on my gains, I'm moving backwards. When I miss a gym date, or woof down a plate of garbage at a restaurant, I am failing, I am moving backwards. If I am moving backwards, I am not at peace with myself and therefore the world around me.
So the next time your buddy asks you to go get some wings and a beer, your girlfriend wants some Wednesday night cuddle time, or you boss needs you at a late night meeting. Think about it, what really is important in life? Being happy with yourself.. That's it. Jobs, women, money, it all comes and goes. Your health and your happiness, that's up to you, and no one else.
Stay thirsty my friends,
-D
