In all due respect MD beta blockers are old drugs and there are much better alternatives. An ACE inhibited would probably be be the best course of action, although the doctor would probably recommend a change in diet. Which would not be ideal.

I've tried an ace inhibitor with terrible side effects one being the worst cough of my life and it also made all food taste terrible.
Been on atenolol (a beta blocker) and a low dose of losartan potassium for 5 years now with no problems with blood work what so ever and I feel fine.
Each to their own mate, but beta blockers have a more generic effect on the body where as ace inhibitors are more specific!
