+ 1 PREGNENOLONE
ad
I wasn't feeling well, had symptoms of what I thought was adrenal fatigue/inefficiency. Had some basic tests done including cortisol, and everything was in range. After doing some research I found that low Pregnenolone has the same symptoms as adrenal fatigue.
Low Pregnenolone can be cause by: Anabolic Steroids, Low TSH, Low DHEA, Adrenal dysfunction, Poor cholesterol levels, Prediabetes....
Then there's Cortisol Steal, where the body compensates cortisol synthesis by using Pregnenolone.
You can buy this hormone over the counter, been taking it for a week now and will re-test in month or so.

I tried to take pregnenolone at 10mg/day and felt way over stimulated. Had to cut it out.
Did you get your levels tested prior?
I did not. I was a bit low on dhea on a blood test at the time and figured I'd give pregnenolone a shot too because I'm often tired throughout the day. I probably shouldn't have chimed in as my experience isn't relevant.
Not even, thanks for commenting. Maybe your levels were already optimal.
BysandtrysThyroid function is often correlated with this. It helps with conversion of cholesterol into pregnenolone.
So low thyroid function (High TSH, low free T3) can lead to higher serum cholesterol and low pregnenolone
Did you also check DHEA levels?
Neurosteroids are definitely important for overall well being.
DHEA was in range. I have low TSH/hyperthyroidism., which I think is the culprit.
BysandtrysActually Hypothyroidism would be a more likely cause.
However I wouldn't diagnose it based off of TSH alone! Check your free T3/T4 levels.
Actually, hyperthyroidism can cause adrenal insufficiency, which can lead to cortisol steal lowering pregnenolone. My T4/T3 are in range, I test it frequently.
BysandtrysSo, hyperthyroidism is not your issue.
T3 & T4 in range suggests that you're euthyroid which is good.
Yes it is my issue. I take ATDs to control my T3/T4, my TSH is still low and TPO antibodies are through the roof. You can't be euthyroid with a low TSH and high TPO-ab.
BysandtrysThose can have their own side effects.
Have you ever looked into LDN therapy? Low dose naltrexone.
Can be very helpful for autoimmune conditions
I've read about this, your better off taking an immunomodulator imo.
Didn’t know about this but now thinking of it, i feel like I definitely have low pregnenolone. gonna look more into this, thank you
If you do start taking it, use a very low dose [10-20mg], even if your levels a super low like mine. Mistake I made was using too high of a dose, it does have negative side effects similar to anabolic and corticosteroids.
