+ 1 Mushroom based coffee alternatives
ad
As I've gotten older, I've noticed that coffee is slowly becoming more disagreeable w/me. Primarily on my gut. I also don't the way caffeine can sometimes hit differently depending on time of day, etc. So I've been looking into some of these new mushroom based alternatives. I'm the last guy to get sucked into fads and other bullshit, but some of my research does indicate some potential benefits. Mental clarity, alertness, improved sleep(this is a big one for me), and pre and pro biotics to name a few.
Its difficult to discuss w/out using brand names. As some are better than others clearly.
Anyone tried these? Your thoughts?

TricepatopsMushrooms are great and have many benefits if you get the right kind and make sure they are grown right. Not sure if you know who Alex Rogers is but he claims to have the best I have never gotten anything from him but he sells some interesting supps on his site
I don't know if the lions mane mushroom is something that you could possibly think of taking but be very careful with lions mane because there's some new thing where a few people have these crazy side effects from taking lions mane that don't go away. It doesn't happen to everyone but a select few people have started talking about it as it's been happening to people one.by one
TricepatopsWhat is the side effects you have me curious? Do they grow an extra toe or something
na it's nothing like that lol but it's similar to post finasteride syndrome I guess. Like horrible mental side effects, ED, no libido, insomnia. Head tightness. This is one guys thing he started on Reddit(and no I don't go on Reddit all day lol, a lot of clowns on there) but it's happening to more and more people. This was just the first guy to document it. https://www.reddit.com/r/LionsManeRecovery/comments/yle6nt/life_could_ha...
I tried the mud water and Ryze. Some aren't my cup of tea or coffee lol but effects are kinda minimal and as he said, you have to get in your system.
I don't drink coffee. It irritates my already loose stool syndrome lol. I do however have caffeine pills on hand that do not cause that side. I love love me some mushrooms. Used to live in Ohio and had neighbors who hunted them. They look like lil christmas trees to me so I don't know the name but I ate them up like candies.
Morel mushrooms. Worth alot of money around here.
Same. Alot of folks here hunt for them when in season. Very popular locally.
Everyone here has their morel hunting grounds which are well-kept guarded secrets.
Here they protect them like they do their dear stands.
I hunt mushrooms. The ones that aren't particularly flavorful gourmet mushrooms that have primarily medicinal properties (turkey tail for e.g.) and more earthy tastes, I've been drying them, grinding them up and brewing a strong tea then refrigerate. It's good by itself or add other medicinal spices to round it out. (Garlic, ginger, clove, cinnamon, Turmeric, etc... Not necessarily all in the same batch). mix it up, experiment.
I'll reheat a few ounces in the microwave and add it to my coffee. it adds a rich earthy flavor to the coffee, reduces my coffee intake while still allowing me my caffeine boost, while adding antioxidant, anticancer, anti-inflammatory elements to my morning beverage.
TricepatopsI like the Wooly Neptune mushroom. But it is rare to find and expensive.
The brand I've been looking at has the turkey tail. As well as lions mane, chaga, reishi, and 2 species of cordyceps. I see nothing but benefit here. I'm gonna have a go at it.
Haven't tried any shroom coffees but maybe green tea may be a good alternative instead of coffee.
Fuck yeah. Green tea addict here my man. I mix mines with local honey (for allergies) and a sprinkle of ginger.
I do enjoy green tea. Black as well. Particularly Earl Grey.
This stuff is obviously much different. It's some of the benefits that I'm curious about as much as I'm also just trying to step away from coffee.
I am familiar with like the nootropic brain supplement mushrooms like cordyceps, reishi, lions mane etc. I have tried them preworkout since I don't do caffeine in the afternoon. I think they help with some focus in the gym for sure, but I don't get a huge surge of energy from them.
All of those you named are in the stuff I've been looking at. And I don't think a surge of energy is to be expected. It's certainly not what I'm interested in anyway.
Never seen them as a coffee substitute. Genius Mushroom preworkout is what I have been using.

This is the stuff I've been eyeballing. Not plugging for the brand, but the ingredients all seem to have a degree of benefit.
Interesting, I might have to give it a try.
I just pulled the trigger. I'll keep you updated
An update on how this worked out for you? I'm losing interest in coffee. I do green tea but I've long heard about the benefits of mushrooms and am pretty interested to hear how this product was for you.
Thanks bro
Its something that you need to be consistent with to reap the benefits. Took a couple weeks to get my legs back under me in the am. But that probably has more to do w/the lack of caffeine that I was dependent on. I've also noticed easing of discomfort in some areas where I'd had some inflammation related issues. Particularly my foot where I've been dealing w/an injury.
It's not a "cure all" product. But I'm enjoying it and will continue using it. Just ordered more in fact.
Also, the stuff is delicious in my opinion. The word "earthy" kept coming up in the reviews, but the stuff I'm using has natural cacao, giving it a really nice chocolaty flavor.
So, in other words it doesn't quite taste like dirt.
Not at all. More like a hot cocoa. Quite pleasant actually.
let me know how it tastes
I've been told it's very "earthy". Take from that what you will.
I roast and grind my own coffee. I can no longer drink coffee from the supermarket. Just taste terrible now. So much more flavor roasting your own and much less bitterness.
RustyhookerOnce you grind your own just try a pot of folgers. Lol! Realize so fast your livin the good life in grinding.
Makes it tough going out for breakfast in the morning and trying a cup of coffee. Going to have to bring a thermos of my own
I started grinding my own about 6 months ago. And I like a French Press. Wow what a difference. I prefer the dark roasts only, so I’ll look into the home roasting if it’s not too much of a pain.
roasting your own you can get different flavors based on the roasting level. Lighter roasts will tend to give you a more floral/fruity flavor and darker brings out more of the chocolate and plum types of flavor. I prefer the darker roasts myself also.
RustyhookerItalian and french is my go to for the press.
Have bags of beans on both !
And some K-cups for my Keurig on those when I’m in a hurry and need to get out the door quick.
Don’t forget Sumatra, not a bad dark.
