How much protein in one sitting?
I was having a conversation with a lifting buddy at work today, and he was asking me about how much protein your body can absorb in one sitting. He had previously heard (and I know I have too) that you can only absorb around 50-60 grams in a 60-90 min window.
Problem with this is that so many of these conventional ideas are now being challenged and potentially proven to be false.
The thing that comes to mind is this new fad of intermittent fasting. Fasting all day, then taking in all your nutrients for the day in a 4 hour window.
Not only does this challenge the "eat a meal every 2-3 hours rule (which I keep seeing things that show that isn't really that important after all as long as you still get in all your needed macros for thew day), but it also challenges the idea of how much you can absorb in a set time frame.
I now there are quite a few on here who know a HELL of a lot more than me on the subject of nutrition. Any of those scholars care to chime in and hopefully help fill my brain with some knowledge?

impossible to answer this, too many variables and everyone is different, trial and error bro, do what works best for you.
I have always been taught that the gut can only absorb roughly 30-40grams of protein per sitting as the liver will only produce a given amount of protease enzyme to break the protein down, regardless of how much protein you ingest in a single sitting. Any excess will simply be excreted.
Which is part of where the multiple meal, every few hrs concept comes into play.
Again... only what I have always been taught/read/heard. Would love to be corrected if this has been proven to be misinformation.
Let me start by saying " I'm not gonna answer your question" mainly because i don't know. I will say I'm not a big fan of large protein doses (be it food or powder) at one sitting (I'm talking 100+ grams and more). Your body can't properly process such a load & I believe it is stressful on your kidneys, causing them to loose their filtration properties over time if you continue those doses ( you'll also find those that disagree w/ that statement). That's my .02 - glad i couldn't answer your question :-)
I heard eating 50g was the max amount your body could use within 1 hour. However there are many things that can change this.
Basically as long as you are getting 30-40g protein per meal you should be good to go.
theres no real ''factorial'' answer. your body uses what it need when it need it. Alot of factors come in to play, empty stomach, physical activity, other nutrients takin in ect. sometimes your body will use 3,4,5 g's an hour sometimes more like 10 ''so they say''. pretty much take in as much as you want.. it needs to be there when your body needs it.
