Ursolic Acid

ad

Have heard pretty good things about this as far as muscle building is concerned and it plays a role in IGF-1 signaling and was wondering if anyone had any experience with this stuff?

Only study on humans I could find, 16 bodybuilders, 450 mg ursolic acid per day for 8 weeks with training, resulted in significant reduction in body fat compared to the placebo group.
Full text available here : https://dx.doi.org/10.4196%2Fkjpp.2014.18.5.441

Body fat % in the placebo group changed from 11.95% to 12.78% (+0.83%). In the ursolic group it changed from 11.70% to 8.70% (-3%). It's only an average, and the sample size is very small (7 in placebo and 9 in ursolic group), but it's still a significant result.

Studies below on mice :

* "The synthesis of IGF-1 and [...] increased."
* "ursolic acid inhibited the increase in body weight and the growth of fat tissues".

3 - http://www.ergo-log.com/ursolicacid.html (2011)
* "the activity of the gene for IGF-1 increased, as did the concentration of IGF-1 in the blood"
* "ursolic acid also reduced the fat cells' emission of leptin, the concentrations of triglycerides and cholesterol, and even the fasting glucose level. All of these are positive effects."
* "The researchers suspect that ursolic acid's prime target is the IGF-1 receptor."

* "That would suggest that tomatidine and ursolic acid reduce fat mass "
* "both substances decreased the activity of the gene ATF4. ATF4 regulates the functioning of a group of other genes which control muscle breakdown."

So there isn't much data to make a good opinion, only one study on humans, not very conclusive.

So one may or may not get the effects of using GH...like deer antler velvet??...I would recommend supps that actually have proven results. OP should get bloods & BF% test before use, then after...then we have some data to work with.

Nice, will look this over more in depth later. The study on humans is pretty interesting and would love to see that get replicated with more participants. Do you know anyone that has tried it before?

I have used said supp...again there are better methods...

Just curious, how much ursolic acid did you take? I'm with you on proper diet. That is huge. What other supplements have you tried that you thought were good? Or are you talking about supplements that you feed your rat?

I used the topical supp... 450mg/day... a 30 day supply costs $50... The results for me ultimately weren't worth the cost. I could have increased the dose (resulting in higher cost)... or simply utilize a supplement that has more profound effects for comparable cost...
I evaluate supps based upon the cost/benefit ratio... and at $50 there are supps that I felt had better effects. If I increase to budget to $100, then the supplement list grows exponentially for better supps.

Asking what supps are "good"... Leads me to ask what's the goal? Or what are you treating?... There are supps that are beneficial and work for various goals/treatments... but none are Magic Beans... that goes for AAS as well.

You mention that you're looking for Ursolic Acid to "maintain muscle w/o having to workout"... that's the ultimate Magic Bean = myostatin inhibition... it doesn't exist as a supplement; only as a genetic mutation.

Weight and height are current. Age is 38 and BF I haven't taken a measurement in a really long time. Probably around 18% I'm guessing. Maybe up to 20%. High for me but I've had a really bad injury and some genetic issues (Ehlers Danlos syndrome) that has made it really difficult to work out. That is why AAS are really important to my recovery. That is why I was curious about Ursolic Acid as it helps retain muscle regardless of working out. At least that is what i read so wanted to hear about people's experience with it.

With eds, do you have more joint issues on cycle? I'd be a bit concerned about killing your collagen with Anabolics. From what I understand, that's already an issue isn't it?
I feel for you man. I know a couple people living with it, and it doesn't sound fun.

There are better supplements.
And proper + consistent, diet & nutrition... takes the #1 spot.
