Low HDL. Need help

ad

Its been a year since my cholesterol has been checked so I ran some private labs and my HDL is tanked. It came back at 2.... Yes... Two
I had another week of my cycle but I'm ending it. Everything else is normal.

So my question is how can I raise this safely and quickly. I have read about niacin. Any dose recommendation? What else would you suggest?

Old post, but bumping for people to view. Also, I would like to know how your current lipid panel status is after two years and how you are doing. Thanks.

Great bump sir!
I have been, and still am, considering starting a thread regarding lipid profiles. There is talk all day about liver care, but imo not enough discussion on cardiovascular issues.
I personally have had a variety of lipid-related issues over the years, and take great care to manage that side of things.
And damn...2...I hope you got that into range, and I would love to hear what you did. I hope it worked out TS.

NoPain, I suffer from low HDL as well (< 40) I have been able to raise mine the last few months by eating garlic (I pickle it in white vinegar), mushrooms, nicotonic acid (aka non flush niacin) and fish oil. Now, if you do not want to go the garlic route, Costco has some great double stuffed Olives with garlic and jalapeno no preservatives or artificial anything. The most recent test had my HDL up 10 points.

While I do think you need to worry about your HDL, do not forget to monitor you Cholesterol ratio.

I got retested and results have changed in a weeks time

Total Cholesterol: 140 (100-199 mg/dl)
Triglycerides 73 (0-149 mg/dl)
HDL : 10 (>39 mg/dl)
VLDL: 15 (5-40 mg/dl)
LDL: 115 (0-99 mg/dl)

Total Cholesterol, LDL and HDL climbed. Triglycerides dropped.

I'm only worried about the HDL at the moment. I climbed 8 points in 7 days so the niacin and fish oil have helped. Still can't believe it's that low.

Just found this..please note the it's an Oprah site. LOL

http://www.oprah.com/health/False-Medical-Test-Results-Medical-Tests-wit...

"Cholesterol: Results can be distorted by some diuretics, corticosteroids, certain antibiotics, and estrogen. Tell your doctor if you're on any medications. Physical stress, like that from acute illness or infection, can cause depressed HDL (good cholesterol) and higher triglyceride (fatty acid) readings."

estrogen...hmmm.....now I wish I ran the hormone panel.

None. Unless you want to consider a crazy chocolate/carb craving a sign. I've been having massive cravings lately. lol

I blame the eq for that. I'll eat anything .

NoPain's picture

dipshit, read below. LMAO

mmmm chocolate. Beer makes me bloated. I hate wine. Thanks homie.

HDL : 2 (>39 mg/dl)
VLDL: 24 (5-40 mg/dl)
LDL: 94 (0-99 mg/dl)

Hey bro.. been searching the forums cause I got some bad lipid profiles. Hdl was 16 and ldl was 126.. just wondering if you got yours back to normal and what did you use.
Thanks

Absolutely not being rude but you just bumped a 3 year old thread and asked a user a question who hasnt been active since January.

A simple search would have provided a lot of answers - https://www.eroids.com/forum/general/general-talk/how-i-lowered-bad-chol....

Look into hCG for lipids...niacin too...maybe some nolva bro...

Darktide's picture

Damn!!! I guess I will stop worrying when my lipids take a bit of a dip! How do you currently feel otherwise?

NoPain's picture

That's the crazy part. I feel great. LOL

@oldhead. I'm wondering the same thing. If they fucked up on the test. I'm tempted to retest just to see

oldhead73's picture

Almost makes you wonder if they left a zero off after that "2." Shame cause everything else is GTG. That HDL tho! Damn!

NoPain's picture

Seriously...I'm in shock over that. I knew my levels would be skewed. My jaw hit the floor when I saw 2. I don't get it. The only logical thing is they fucked up. At least that's what I keep telling myself.

Regardless, the cycle is dead. I've added slow release niacin (not the no-flush type), EFA's, fish oil. Even though it's premature. I'm going to test in a couple weeks. I might waste money but I don't care. It's worth it to me to see what (if any) change will occur in a short time.

I've been researching to see if anything could skew that number but I don't see anything at this point.

oldhead73's picture

Those supps are good for you anyway..

NoPain's picture

Yeah. I take them on and off. Sometimes I get a little overwhelmed with the amount of pills that need to be swallowed in a day.

I actually contacted the testing co. they are going to rerun it to make sure number is legit. I find it hard to believe that it's anything but legit because they seem pretty thorough but at the same time, I'm hoping it's not legit. lol

i dont recall test and eq tanking hdl that bad. whats your hdl been in the past? I see u said "I have family history of cholesterol issues.". if this is the case u may not be able to raise it on own. come off cycle eat better and retest in about 2 months. if still low id go to a doc.

studies ive seen regarding niacin raising hdl u needed least a couple grams ED.

healthy fats are supp to help raise hdl. ply and mono i believe. i like avocados and one of the oils like olive oil or canola. i add some to my night time shakes. just raising my fats my past blood work ive been able to raise my hdl from 30 - 35 - 42. i have a history of having lower hdl.

NoPain's picture

I just looked and 15 months ago (last time it was checked) my HDL was 45.Which was AFTER my first cycle of Test so clearly I did not have an issue there. The only thing I changed this time would be the use EQ and I started blood pressure meds. Also, I didn't think EQ would cause it either?

Maybe age is catching up to me. I'm 38. My mother and grandfather had high blood pressure and cholesterol. They were also smokers for a long time. I'm in much better condition then they ever were but I know you can't really escape genetics. In looking at my diet, my healthy fats was severely lacking. Not sure what the cause is, but at this point, All I care about is getting the numbers back up.

My first cycle went great. This cycle was a mixed bag. It was good, but not so good. I fucked up the diet, somewhere down the line I lost focus. I had the intensity, I just lost the discipline with the diet. Lots of lessons learned on this run. Maybe I wasn't mentally ready for the EQ. It made me want to eat non stop. It was like clockwork. After 12pm, I'd turn into an animal (like a gremlin after midnight). Ate whatever I could to fill the craving. I made gains. Somehow I kept the fat gain down to a minimum but clearly my body doesn't agree with it.

As far as I'm concerned, the cycle is DONE. I just picked up some Niacin. I've read that it will help and I will make the diet changes needed to help. I think I will test again in 3 or 4 weeks to make sure it's moving in the right direction.

I'm puzzled. I know I wasn't eating the greatest food all the time but I didn't think I was eating that poorly.

gambit's picture

we cant say for sure when the family genetics would kick in but it may be time to know u may need medical help.

eq makes me VERY hungry.

oldhead73's picture

Get off cycle, increase cardio, eat very clean. Run Niacin at 500 mg a day and go up to 1 gram if you tolerate it. I recommend the flush free niacin, but the studis on that raising HDL aren't as good. However , I take 1 gram flush free niacin a day and my HDL has been decent. Also, I know I shouldn't say this but red wine, a glass a day has been shown to help. I would also start some fish oil because this may help some, definitely can help triglyceride levels. Btw 2 is the lowest I've ever seen !

NoPain's picture

2 is way to low. I'm glad I decided to get that test done.. I will try the niacin. Add in some fish oil. For some reason I stopped taking it a while ago. I have some essential fatty acid by Labrada that will add in also.

My ldl /triglycerides are normal. I expected HDL to be low but that fucking low. Geezus.

oldhead73's picture

That is low as FUCK! What were you running ? Befor yours I think the lowest I've seen was 16 or so..

NoPain's picture

Test/Eq. After my first cycle I realized I hadn't had my cholesterol checked so with all I have been dealing with I figured I should. Who knows what it was after my last cycle. Also, once the Eq kicked in I wasn't eating all clean. I wasn't running any support either which was a dumb rookie move. Won't make that mistake again.

Hopefully I can bounce back quick but obviously the Eq is going to take some time to clear my system. Hopefully the mistakes I made don't cost me.

I have family history of cholesterol issues. I have never had issues myself until now. Assuming I recover I will be watching it more closely from now on.

By the way.. Sent you a pm
