Id be willing to do a regular whole unit with those numbers. Not one of the red cell only deals. Tried that once and something went wrong. Ended up with a golf ball sized lump on the inside of my elbow I had to keep iced for a day to reduce the swelling. Fun stuff.

Same. I have been donating every 2 months to help and also lower my numbers. I do regular and recently starting taking a mineral supplement. Has iron in it but not too much.
I do check my ferritin and iron levels during bloodwork to check it out.

My trt doc has me got to give blood at this point. My hematocrit and RBC levels were higher than he'd like but my trt dose is lower than id like. So donating is the way to make everyone happy. And I have a type of blood that's commonly needed so it isn't a bad thing.

But the whole "we're pulling your blood out, splitting up and putting what we don't want back with an added anticoagulant" kinda creeps me out. Even without the mishap the first time they tried. I'm sure there's safeguards and cleaning protocols done. But people make mistakes and even when they don't sometimes things just go wrong. I don't want hepatitis because of some stupid mistakes made by a nurse who had a fight with her bf last night and didn't get any sleep before work.

Im the same way. You need to do the basic whole blood donation, take like 10 min. They hook you up, pull a liter and then your done. The power red is were they take it out, pull what they need and add saline to it before its returned to you.

That's what i switched too. Takes way less time and doesn't creep me the hell out. I currently have a script form my dr so i can actually go as often s i'd like until that runs out. But i only plan to go 1 more time to really give myself some breathing room then switch to every 8-12 weeks from then on.

I’ll try that next time

I did a power red bc it has the saline was afraid of passing out..

And if went perfect. First time ever donating

I am sure if I eat a high carb meal etc I’ll be fine with the 10 min one.

You will be fine dude. I just eat regular through the day and donate in the afternoon after work.
Never had issues.

Ofcourse! Maybe placebo but feel amazing right after I donate.

My hct runs higher than that naturally. I’d go with my guys also. I did a power red last time and won’t do it again, I prefer just the regular 1unit whole blood donation.

Yes. Iron was at top of range now it is mid range I don’t see a reason to do it now

Don’t want to crush iron

For sure man, completely understand. If I felt good. There are no levels here that would make “me” want/need to donate. Happy new year!

I think if thats even in the back of your mind then go with your gut. Dont let anyone talk you into something you are doubting or dont want to do

Benny1818's picture

Thanks pal. I heard to much is no good to. I’ll wait it out till next blood work another 3 months

Regular every 4 months but if you did a power red you should be ok. Some will even argue the every 4 months is too much unless you are on some heavy equipoise or something. But again, go with your first gut always. HCT can even be not enough water before test. I dont think you are that high over considering some say 50% is average for male

Yes especially 9500 elevation everyone’s RBC / hct is higher at high altitude
