-3 lidocaine for injection?

ad

title says it all. Wondering if anyone has had any luck finding local anesthetics?

I've found over the years there has been stuff id like to do to my body (NOTHING MAJOR. nothing below skin level or life threatening if I did it wrong) where I've known without a doubt that I could easily do it myself. I have a small tattoo I want to remove. You can buy these tattoo removal tools on Ebay. I got one a while back and it works great when used properly but using it like this hurts like a fucking bitch.

Also a couple of years ago I had an abscess on my leg that I got removed. $300 to remove an abscess that was approaching an inch in size. With some anesthetic I could have very easily done this myself at home like it was nothing. I mean I watched when the abscess was removed. It wasn't artful or scientific. They just jabbed me with the lidocaine or similar and lanced it, then dug around for the rest of it.

Any help hugely appreciated.

I wouldn’t fuck around and drain an abscess on your own. They not only have to be drained, but packed as well with sterile gauze to prevent infection. You’ll also need antibiotics.

Speaking first hand experience. I had an abscess in my arm back in 2007. I didn’t know what it was, and it got pretty big. I thought it’d heal on its own. It eventually got so bad, I went to the ER. They drained and packed it, but I ended up having to be admitted for two reasons. One, because the pain of moving my arm was fucking unbearable, I didn’t move my arm (like stretch it fully out) so my muscles got tight, and the dr couldn’t fully extend my arm. If I waited a few more days, I may have lost my arm. I ended up with a staph infection. Had to have surgery and they had to cut the entire infection out, followed up with having to wear a vacuum on my arm for a week. I didn’t know how deep it was until they took the vacuum off. I almost fainted. The hole in my arm, could’ve hidden a golf ball. I still to this day, have a nice scar on my arm from it.

Yes, some of these procedures look easy…but there is more to them than you may realize. Just be careful.

Dude. Both my parents were/are in the medical field and while minor stuff is easy enough at home. There’s a reason autoclaves, pressure controlled rooms, and tons of other sanitization tools and precautions are in place. A house (especially with pets) is never going to be sterile. Too many ways it could go wrong. I wouldn’t want to be stuck at home 30 minutes away from a medical professional when I ignorantly cut some nerves away or rupture an artery. Just be smart man. Minor stuff with topicals is relatively safe… but I would NEVER try to remove an abscess at home. Maybe drain a cyst. Too much cutting, tissue, and identification for at home. It worries me that’s it’s so commonplace you’d rather perform self-surgery than go see a doc. Insurance is cheap these days.

Ah. My fault for not reading in depth I was busy- still not a procedure I would ever do at home.

You nick a nerve or a blood vessel while cutting something off, I just see to much going wrong here. You surely shouldn't need lidocaine for injecting steroids though.

Lidocaine is what I get injected into my jaw when I have a filling done - can't say I'd want to be messing about with that stuff.

That’s Novocaine, Bro! Regardless, this guy is a lunatic!!! Lol

Putting it in your mouth and attempting a dental operation on yourself is going to be a lot more difficult than say injecting your foot to dig out a mean splinter thats gone below the surface isnt it?

If you want to start injecting yourself with local anaesthetic no one is stopping you, personally I wouldn't.

Thats true. Im enquiring about where to get it not if I should use it.

Your barking up a dangerous tree. As a practitioner I would highly advise you to not.

Say you did get some lidocaine, you have no idea of the complications, max doses, procedure. What if someone gives you xylocaine instead of lidocaine? You put 5cc lidocaine with epi in your finger, and necrosis sets in because you didn’t know epi causes vasoconstriction in the capillaries. You just turned you lancing procedure into a $20k finger amputation. I could go on with examples, but my point is made.

Is that really what it costs to get a finger amputated?

I mean i buy steroids online and have used them for years now. Albeit from trusted sources. If there was a trusted seller of plain lidocaine without the adrenaline id be interested in that.

Your advice is very much appreciated anyway. It just seems like there are small things people could do themselves if only there was education and access to local anesthetic. Interesting that you mention fingers too, when I was young I had a local anesthetic injected around the base of my finger for removing a large splinter under my fingernail. They were going beserk with the injections. I dont mean to sound rude but some of my experiences with it seem very basic. Or rather the anesthetic part is nuanced and calculated and the actual procedures are just cutting you up and sewing you back together. Maybe thats why anesthesiology? Is a seperate field.

You just proved my point. You didn’t know you couldn’t put lido with epi in a finger. What if you got your hands on it? It seems simple, but what are you looking for when you lance that abcess? Is it cystic? It seems simple until you mess it up.
