+ 28 Blood Pressure Help
Every once in a while We see a blood pressure question and the truth is, its probably the biggest health hazard when it comes to doing what we do. Most of the young guys running gear, I was one once upon a time, just look at roid rage as kinda cool often and dont really realize it is likely the result of high blood pressure. High blood pressure could be responsible for a large percentage of all disease related to cardiovascular or organ issues. We should talk about it more and in my opinion there should be no single person running gear without a BP monitor. I figured it out many years after running my first gear, I thought rage just meant I was a badass! Lol. So anyway my answer is cardio early and often, eat as clean as possible and take my omega3 fish oil along with a few other heart supps....hopefully everyone can drop in their control methods and thoughts. I happen to believe even blood pressure medication is a good thing if you need it when compared to just letting it get out of hand. It is depreciating you which is the opposite of what we are all trying to do to begin with. A motor that runs nice and smooth that granny drives will last longer than one in Goths ride given he just boils the tires at every intersection and thinks he's so fuckin cool with his dollar store jewelry and his felt hat and gold tip cane! TELL US WHATS WORKING FOR YOU....

tread-mGood to know J...I have heard that a few times and have tried like hell to stay away from it! Lol. I may have to rethink and give it a whirl. I use things that are pretty effective but having got a really bad infection, maybe a touch of pneumonia, several weeks ago in my lungs my cardio went to hell quick to the degree that cardio stopped. I had to cough my way through workouts for 4 weeks and the thought of cardio made me cough just thinking about it! Needless to say bp is up but I think I'm beyond the cough so about to jump heavy on the cardio and may just have to try some yoga.
Anongirl jumps and down and screams "I kepp telling you all to do YOGA"
Jtizzleso gay but at least I get to watch a hot flexible girl in yoga pants while I attempt it.. and it really helps with my flexibility and mood
tread-mI know I know...it just seems so gay.."not that theres anything wrong with that"..no homo
AnonMore and more NBA and NFL players are doing Yoga... Robert Parrish (Tread) was able to compete for years after Larry Bird HAD to retire because he did yoga everyday.. get over the homo stuff..
OE2000Would this be considered yoga???? Its me and tread btw..... enjoy

Jtizzleholy shit.. thats one hell of a dance
OE2000There is nothing wrong with being gay, cause I love me some tread-m!
tread-mNo homo.....Rihanna rules the world by the way.
OE2000Dude, @3:50 of the video..... she makes my blood fucking boil ...... holy crap!!!! Toilet tissue would be a non-issue with her in my house!!!! <----- cause Tread said so bitches!

I don't know where she picks up that bad mouth?
How the Hawthorn berry holding up.
tread-mSo far so good! I'm going to drop it a few days at some point to see if I kinda rise a little and then go back on and see if it heads back down a bit. Just playing with it to see if its lasting too.
Keep me updated.
yea hawthorn berry and habiscus tea great for bp
I will keep an eye on this!!
Interesting thread. Some prefer big pharma and others prefer nature (holistic, herbal, or whatever you prefer to call it). BOTH can be effective and BOTH can cause serious harm. I tend to get more anxiety when a patient prefers the advice of some forum or herbal companies ads/magazines/etc. with no regulation whatsoever or controlled clinical trials. I see patients die all the time because they believe they will be cured by some supplement their friend's neighbors cousin swears by - instead of following the advice of a trained medical professional. My own dad falls into this category - even though he is a retired doctor as well. It's sad and shameful to watch people you care for die FASTER because of blind stupidity endorsed and supported by an unregulated industry. My advice - be cautious and wise. A wise man learns from his mistakes but the wisest man learns from someone else's mistakes.
AnonI agree Doc, people can get carried away on both sides. I prefer to see pt's do what is necessary and relevant before they get to the point where they have to take medications. Medications are a useful tool in getting things under control but I feel like people rely way to much on the "magic pill" and forget that their health behaviors and choices play as much a role in maintaining their health as does taking their meds. too many people want the quick answer and easy way out.
Agreed. Back to the environment vs genetics. Too much blame on genetics for more generalized conditions such as mild to moderate obesity with slightly elevated bp, or early onset of diabetes due to diet, or even mental and mood stability. For these reasons and much observation combined with knowledge on current and past scientific literature, I tend to lean 70% environment and 30% genetics for the most common generalized conditions - NOT a malignancy or truly dominant condition unrelated to environment.
OE2000Hey, has anyone been on that Hawthorn Berry? And if so, lets hear the results?
I was curious too.. so I Googled it and read a few articles -
some feedback:
can cause cardiac arrhythmia and dangerously lower blood pressure while some mild side effects could include nausea and sedation.
Seems it can lower BP, now I wonder if because it is made by mature if it is better than a scrip of a statin. I think I spelled that right.
OE2000Have family members on statins, and I'm avoiding that shit like the plague. Seems like my body gets desensitized to resveratol, CoQ10.... initially BP goes down, but after a few months, no benefits???? Maybe I should cycle 1 month resveratol, 1 month CoQ10...hmmmm
Hibiscus and green tea are suppose to help, especially the hibiscus from what I've heard
I'm doing moderate cardio 3 days a week for 20 min. My BP is great, so I guess that's enough cardio until something changes, right?? Kuddos to tread for the BP monitor suggestion!
tread-mIMO yes as long as diet and heart supps are all good. Can always increase a day or 2 if you see a rise and especially on cycle. Good for you brother!
I started cardio and 2 baby aspirin a day as well as 90 minutes cardio a week and and watched the sodium now I am g2g. Oh yea and upped my water intake to around 1 1/2 gallons of water a day. Sometimes more but at least that much.
tread-mNice work brother, I like the aspirin but it can bother some. I particularly think it is good on cycle...not bad to mention to your doc though during blood work so he has the oppurtunity to evaluate its use.
Yea some dude with a gorilla for an avatar suggested this to another member so I ran with it. Thanks gos to you. I will mention to him as I have never had blood pressure issues in the past. I went into this blast with a little to much abdominal fat looking back. More than ever before plus I am no spring chicken anymore. I have learned a wealth of info on this site. My next blast will include hgh,var and propionate. I may need some direction with it. After this blast I am going to shred my weight down and build up properly. This cyp is some really good clean shit man. Beats the shit out of the Brovel stuff I used 5 years ago.
OE2000The gorilla is VERY wise!
I just knocked out a 10 mile mountain bike ride today for lunch.. my BP has been low all afternoon. Nothing like getting outdoors and putt-in the hammer down.
3 months ago that would not have been fun... on HRT ... no ISSUES.
My BD is coming up I think I may hit an extra T Prop 100 mg for some good BD wood in the hood!
Lovin it'
tread-mGood for you M! Oh, and see why I love the prop...quick adjustment, quick response!
roger that - preparation was key' Lets just say I had a great BD and slept like a newborn baby last night! If there had been an earthquake I would never have known.
Also capped my evening w/ a New York Strip and some asparagus...mm-mm
tread-mOh yeah, dialed it in with a strip I like it. I'm a filet mignon preference but I'll never turn down a strip or good steak of any kind. Throw a little lobster in the mix and ahhhhhhh.......
I'm not even gonna start my next cycle unless I know my bp is under wraps. I eat real clean not much red meat, but during my last cycle I neglected my cardio and I know better. I got lazy with it and it plays such a big part in your gains. When my cardio is spot on I'm good for about 20 percent increase in strength. 5 to10 more reps. I'm including twenty minutes on the precor ant machine now before each workout. I'll be doing a core class once a week also. I'm hoping to be ready to jump on cycle in december. The cardio has been hard to jump back into, I do know that it is getting easier so that's a good sign. 136 over 80 was my last check. The bp monitors are cheap and almost essential, props to tread on that
My BP is pretty high I'm thinking about using BP meds...any advice from anyone or experience???
If your BP is dangerously high your doc will script you BP meds to help prevent your pending heart attack.
It shouldn't become your new "maintenance drug" so you can avoid doing the hard work. You need to focus on correcting your diet and exercise. So you don't need the drug.
tread-mNice call....can't neglect that cardio or the bp monster comes looking for you, he found me a few times!
Definitely need to up the cardio game, i dropped 37 lbs since april and i think that has helped some, been esting very clean for a bit now. Been thinking about maybe giving up coffee (i drink 2 cups a day)....does COQ10 or redyeast rice help with BP...I'd rather not go on meds....doc said that i needed meds but that was 37 lbs ago...also alot less stress in my life right now...
OE2000Damn bro, I thought about this too....I'm on my 3rd cup of coffee as I type this BTW. I always justify my caffeine intake by telling myself, "Well, I quit drinking beer and margaritas" "I've lost some body fat" " I don't eat fast food that much anymore" LOL Wanted to see exactly how coffee affected my blood pressure, after 3 cups one morning my reading was 150/125, 3 hours later I was back down to 110/75 I wanna quit, but I LOVE my coffee!!!!!
tread-mGOOD FOR YOU BROTHER! Well I dont know about help as to the coq10 but it will help in overall heart health. You need every edge you can get so look through this thread, some very good tips but cardio is key. You just keep uping cardio time and even sessions until you find your sweet spot. Giving blood helps by thinning your blood as well as I learnd here and I personally take a baby aspirin every day. Even though the commercial says to consult your doctor..they dont own me! Lol. Of course if on blood thinners for any reason or prone to ulcers or other stomach issues a doc is probably a good idea for sure.
Anonare they being prescribed by a doctor or are you self medicating? If you are self medicating then I'd have to say that it is NOT advisable. There are many things that you can do on a day to day basis that can lower your bp to acceptable levels. Many people make lifestyle changes and come off their medications.
By far, the easiest way to control high blood pressure is to take a bp medication. A cheap one like Lisinopril. It only costs $10 for 90 pills from Wallmart and those other pharmacies that have a discount plan. I take it and it is effective and no side effects. 500 mgs. of testosterone a week would jack my blood pressure up to 160 over 90.
AnonReally, Firefly... you should be more careful suggesting that someone else take a specific medication. Lisinopril has a black box warning.. ALL medications have side effects, here are some for lisinopril:
(exercise, meditation, yoga, and biofeedback methods are far preferred for the treatment of high blood pressure and hypertension.)
Before taking lisinopril,
tell your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to lisinopril, enalapril (Vasotec), benazepril (Lotensin), captopril (Capoten), fosinopril (Monopril), moexipril (Univasc), perindopril (Aceon), quinapril (Accupril), ramipril (Altace), trandolapril (Mavik), or any other medications.
tell your doctor and pharmacist what prescription and nonprescription medications, vitamins, nutritional supplements, and herbal products you are taking. Be sure to mention any of the following: aspirin and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as indomethacin (Indocin); diuretics ('water pills'); lithium (Eskalith, Lithobid); and potassium supplements. Your doctor may need to change the doses of your medications or monitor you carefully for side effects.
tell your doctor if you have or have ever had heart or kidney disease; diabetes; lupus; scleroderma; or angioedema, a condition that causes difficulty swallowing or breathing and painful swelling of the face, throat, tongue, lips, eyes, hands, feet, ankles, or lower legs.
tell your doctor if you plan to become pregnant or are breast-feeding.
if you are having surgery, including dental surgery, tell the doctor or dentist that you are taking lisinopril.
you should know that diarrhea, vomiting, not drinking enough fluids, and sweating a lot can cause a drop in blood pressure, which may cause lightheadedness and fainting.
Ha!
There are millions of people in this country that take bp medications. They are a life saving drug. Those warnings you list are standard disclaimers that are on every drug.
AnonI am quite well aware of the statistics.. the warnings are there because they are real. They DO have side efffects and to say that someone should take a medication w/out know ing anything about them and to say there are no side effects is just plain old bad advice.
Yes, standard disclaimers to cover BIG PHARMAS ASS!
I agree with grrl and tread... Diet, exercise and even homeopathic remedies should be explored and considered FIRST.
VERY dangerous mindset and belief system that a pill is the "quick and easy" solution.
my .02
tread-mI get your point and say if you need it "until" you take the steps to get it under control with cardio and natural methods its a good thing. There are still many studies that show even though you control bp through medication the predisposition to have bp based on your lifestyle shortens your life and creates a health environment that sets you up for the onset of many diseases. So yes, you fixed the bp but no, you did not change the fact that your lifestyle will have many negative effects on your health as time goes on. As well, we dont want to send the message that medication will replace cardio or any of the things grrrl suggests given we know these things create better uptake of oxygen in the blood and organs and that is a chain reaction to health at all levels. I agree that if your bp is too high, get to your doctor until you can make the necessary lifestyle change and make it right!
I'm already prescribed a statin drug. Have been prior to AS. I take all the no no steroids and my BP remains the same. Everyone is different. Before you invest hundreds in juice, spend 70 and buy a home meter. Check it regularly.
I have a supplement store and the best feedback I have been getting is from a supplement called Kyolic formula 109. I have also used and it does seem to be effective, its just not a quick fix like bp meds, but it does seem to work without the side effects of some bp meds, feeling tired, lethargic, etc. The ingredients in this formula are aged garlic, nattokinase, and l-theanine.
AnonInteresting, do you have any other insight on it?
