+ 1 Training shoes

ad

So i know alot of brands make shoes specifically for lifting. Im always running from my apartment to the gym so i been wearing my nike odysseys. Im kinda getting sick of taking them off for squats and deadlifts and was wondering is there a shoe in between you guys recommend? Any input appreciated (even if you just post the type of shoe you wear while in the gym).

Either barefoot or Adidas lifters if you're doing anything Olympic. Any gym worth its salt will let you hide them somewhere so you can run over there in whatever you normally wear but lift with the lifting shoes. Raised heel will add depth to your squats if you aren't flexible, let you move more weight- win win.

Yes but, raised heels make your calves look so much better.

Scribbling this down! Lol. I already do the whole, thick semi high socks thing. Any little bit helps to create the optical illusion that my calf genetics aren't gahhhbage.

I feel much comfortable doing legs without shoes. In my opinion any indoor sports shoes are fine. Don't make it complicated. I grow when completely focused and dedicated no matter what shoes/what gym gloves/what supplement brands/food brands.

Barefoot is my preferred footwear.

Converse dainty ox are the lowest chuck's which are great for lifting but no good for running. Stairmaster for cardio is ok. I live in these.

In all honestly a pair of old puma's is exactly what I use to train in too, had them over 10 years as I've only ever worn them indoors. Still holding together perfectly with no rips or tears in them and comfortable as hell!

I've trained shoes stay successfully. I'm finding it difficult training shoes to roll over. :-p

I’ve been using my old worn out new balance minimus trail running shoes. Super comfortable and about as close as I can get to barefoot without going to the 5 finger vibrams. My gym definitely doesn’t let us take off our shoes

I have joined the barefoot club .. I have the reebok lifting shoes though and I thought about trying vans ... I ditched the chuck taylors

w8lift's picture

thats what i do when i squat or deadlift but im tired of having to take off my shoes (i wear running shoes cuz i run to the gym) also i hate getting my socks dirty and having to put my running shoes back on Blum 3 trying to keep my shoes fresh

kodiakGRRL's picture

I gave up on the socks too.. I carry antibacterial wipes with me and wipe my feet.... I also wear slip ons ... so slip on slip off .. obviously I don't need shoes off for accessory stuff ... but I have been reconstructing my technique and position and I was getting frustrated with the shoes and not really being able to feel my feet. honestly now I am lazy and don't feel like wearing shoes ..

kodiakGRRL's picture

lol.. well I have all my toenails and they are ... pretty ;-)

kodiakGRRL's picture

i thought about kicking the bar yesterday.... for a second ...

kodiakGRRL's picture

no shoes no slippers no socks... barefoot ... there are few feds I can lift in without having to wear shoes or something with a sole .. I don't like those slippery things .. they are slippy inside and I like to wedge my feet I can't stand those toe shoes either so those are out. I still wear my chucks for benching.. can't break that relationship up its been gold so far

press1's picture

I'm exactly the same - Completely barefoot Rocks! Lol In fact I've just finished doing em. Together with a nice big knee scab being ripped off on the way back down haha, don't believe in dropping it.

I HATE when people drop it... it's a huge pet peeve of mine. my end goal is to get stronger and those negatives are there to help me so I never drop it... plus my luck I d find a way to crush my foot ..

Adidas powrlift's are pretty good for the price.

my Mom got me those for Christmas a couple years back. (Yea I’m in my 30s and still get a christmas present... suck it!) I feel like they’d be great for Oly lifting, but the raised heal fucks me up on squats & deads.

Barefoot or chucks for squats/deads. The rest I just wear my Joe Shmoe Nike’s

press1's picture

Do you use shin guards for Deads at all? I still do the old school routine of cutting a 2 litre plastic soft drinks bottle into 2 semi circles Lol Works really well if you tend to scrape your shins a lot Smile

Haha Nice, that’s awesome. I actually don’t use anything. I don’t scrape them very violently and it tends to be the smooth part of the bar that does scrape, so I don’t get too many scabs (although sometimes the powder coat on the axle gets me).

I do however have a hairless stripe running up the middle of each shin at all times. It starts about halfway up and stops mid-knee lol

On leg days, old school Converse Chuck Taylors.

Like Makwa, cheap slip-ons. Once at the Gym Reebok Crossfit lifter 2.0. The shoe has a solid rubber sole and a slightly raised heel for squats & Deads. Not into crossfit at all but the shoe allows versatility in all areas in the gym

Makwa's picture

Getting to old to bend over and tie shoes anymore so I just get the slip-ons from walmart. They burn out pretty quick so I buy a new pair every month.

scoobydoo's picture

I feel your pain.I buy elastic no tie shoelaces to replace regular shoelaces.

dextetherdog's picture

I stick with ottomix and ryderwear, not sure how suitable the are for what you do but great for bodybuilding

Manshit's picture

I do everything in Nike 5.0 free runner. They don’t hold up long but feel good on my feet while they do!

Adidas makes powerlifting sneakers. They are not cheap @225 a pair. I picked up a pair and they are surprisingly holding out now for years. Leistung 16 II BOA. They have the cheaper ones at about 100 but they dont last.

Merrells with Vibram soles.

Beat me to it. I got a pair of Merrill Vapor Glove 3s a few months ago and even though they look ridiculous, they are great for lifting. can really feel and hug the ground when squatting and deadlifting and have helped build some ankle mobility and foot strength. Definitely never wear them in public out side of the gym though.

But to the OP, either those or ultraboosts. Not the best for lifting but they are very comfortable.
