+ 2 Whey free shake recipe in progress
I decided to lay off whey protein awhile back and Im glad I did. I feel like I have more energy. Ive
been consuming food post workout which is fine. Its breakfast. I decided to try my hand at making a shake and thought I would share it. I think it taste pretty dam good. Please! Thoughts, suggestions, critisism, whatever you got, Im open to it. I am trying to keep my sodium down a bit. I will be tweaking this a bit as I go forward to do just this.
1 cup silk protein nut milk ( almond&cashew)
1 cont. Banana greek yogurt
2 tbls natty peanut butter (unsalted)
6 tbls (2servings) egg beaters (I meant to grab egg whites) Im lazy, its easier to pour them.
Bit of water or ice
Blend
375 sodium
24 fat
28 carb
43 pro
I'm probably going to switch out that nut milk because that has 220 gm sodium but its good in a shake, its thick and has a sweet taste
Thanks

Hashtag1981Sounds great , whey is mostly processed now with fillers.
It does sound tasty but you forgot the Twinkie’s
No really it does sound pretty good, my blends are pretty boring and most people wouldn’t like them because they are extremely low carb.
Diabetes sucks.
sounds pretty good man...my post workout shake consist of...
2cups egg whites
almond milk
peanut butter
cinnamon oatmeal
and a banana
so sweet...yeeesss
Bro this sounds awesome & I’m always up for a new shake!! Welcome to Advances also!!
Looks like a took a few good hits on mine over night for some reason. Lol
Thanks brother. I'm liking this shake! I have to use the vanilla yogurt though. I tried others and didnt care for them. Something about mixing that with the p.b. is a satisfying taste. And I dont think I can taste the eggs, if so...they are good. Lol. Depending on when I'm having it I will switch between the nut and fairlife milk. The almond/cashew milk is heavier so i will have that later in the afternoon. Give it a shot, let me know what you think and if you tweak it I'm definitely interested in what you do.
Hello Jayzgainz,
I am not a big fan of shakes but not because there is something wrong with them but mainly because of the extra calories. I mean I would have a shake and be hungry again within 30 min so I would end eating a meal right after the shake that would take me to calorie excess and extra fat as a result. Therefore I would rather have a solid meal to fill me up.
,
But I have to admit while going through the content of your shake I want one right now lol
Regards
Agreed! I would have a shake at the gym right after I finish my workout and by the time I got home probably 20-30 min later I would be very hungry and plow through half a dozen eggs, chicken, and whatever else I could stuff into a pan. I just started skipping the whey and sticking with the food.
Looks like a good slow feed shake.Should sustain you for a few hours in the hunger department and feed you even more than that.Egg is great for cutting as well the peanut butter. Why the nut milk instead of something like fair life?
Really just for the taste and texture. In all honesty mixed with the p.b. I have to cut it wuth a little water. If not it can turn into cake batter.
Good call on the fairlife. Just went to the store and picked some up.
Yeah I was just wondering if it was a milk thing, since you were getting away from whey,of course yogurt has some whey in it.My problem is whey makes me fat and doesn't control my hunger.I think I'll try your shake this week and let you know.i don't like egg beeters but pasteurized whites should do the same thing.
Yea I meant to grab the egg whites but picked these up instead. I drink milk regularly and have never had an issue. Not sure what it is. I just felt better in general when I pulled the whey and had food instead. If you try this maybe use the Fair life. That almond/cashew milk is too much. It makes it too heavy imo. Thats why I posted this up to get ideas on making it better . Plus the Fair life has 3 more gm protein and almost half the sodium
It's looking pretty good !Does the peanut butter add a lot of flavor or just healthy fat?
Its not overpowering but definitely noticeable.
What are your thoughts on pea protein? Might be a way to get those extra amino acids without the whey. In frozen fruit smoothies I like the consistency it brings, grainy but not in a bad way.
To be honest Ive heard it in passing but never really looked into it. My concern would be that it tasted like peas, which a quick google search assures me it doesnt. I'll have to dig a bit deeper. Maybe give it a shot as an add it to things throughout the day.
That’s not what she said
Have to watch what I eat because thats just what I like to hear her to say
For the record, that is exactly what she said!
It’s more savory than sweet. Umami, if you will.
Perfect, yes!
For the record, I had to google umami. Had no idea what it meant.
Me too Hahahaha
“For the record, I had to google umami. Had no idea what it meant.”
Just so you know, You forgot to put no homo
after you wrote the phrase "protein nut milk"
Is it bad that when writing that I thought the same thing. Eh well, its the same story Im always trying to give the wife to get her to drink more protein....its good for her.
You know for the wife, perhaps you should incorporate all natural organic nut butter to your regiment
.
Looks good but I’m not big on the eggs in it lol
Yea, I wasnt sure either but I cant taste them over the peanut butter and they are pasteurized I figure I'm good.
Yeah your prob right there pasteurized so there safe I guess lol. Why did you decide to lay off the whey?
I would always feel very bloated afterwards. Sometimes almost nauseous. I had gone from Optimum nutrition, to Walmart brands, to Myprotein and not knocking any of those but they all left me feeling like I needed another notch on my belt. I drink milk regularly so I dont think I have a lactose issue. But in general I just feel better not drinking it.
Are you getting pure unflavored, no additives?
Only from Myprotein. That was the last one I picked up.
Good for you.. I try to get my intake from real food
At least this way I know whats in it. For the most part
I was reading in some brands there was heavy metals found in top brands
Another member mentioned that to me few months back. Really made me think. In particular about the less expensive brands out there. It really does pay to do a bit of digging into what we are eating
