Suggestions for cheaper carb sources

ad

Hey guys so I’m trying to make a diet and for breakfast I’m trying find a cheaper carb than bagels and trying to avoid rice cause I already eat that like 4 or 5 times a day. Just wondering what I can eat to get in 100g of carbs without having to eat like 20oz of potatoes or 300g of rice. Any suggestions would be appropriated.

Also if you have any cheap food options for anything just post it up, always happy to hear new ideas

Google complex carb sources. It's not about the quantity of carbs it's the quality. Fast carbs like dextrose based are in and out, gummy bears as an example. Oatmeal is a complex carb, granola, e.t.c. you need minimal processed carbs for better absorption.

Zalewski's picture

That’s what I aim to do with all my food tbh. The only sugar I really get in is only from fruit

IrishMack's picture

Be careful about sugar from fruit too. Mangos grapes and cherries are loaded with sugar 23+ grams per serving.

IrishMack's picture

My wife loves fruit too, she had to slowly wean herself off of it, was gaining weight rapidly and shes a vegetarian.

Zalewski's picture

This is why I cap it relative to my total carb intake, but what do you think about doing that?

Noooo!!! Did you eat the fries lol

Well I appreciate your honesty of knowledge

2 bananas a day, one for breakfast and one preworkout

IrishMack's picture

Bananas have 14 grams of sugar (118 grams) so a medium sized one. Be careful if you're doing macros.

It depends on the time of year. If I’m cutting the most likely not, but bulking I see it as fine. The enzyme that breaks down fructose is limited so I try to avoid going over a total of 40 grams of carbohydrates in it for a given day. When I’m bulking I tend to range from 500g of carbs on the low end to as high as 700g of carbs on high end, so 40g isn’t the major concern. That being said I utilize Berberine and chromium picolate for meals to help with blood sugar control. I also utilized some Metformin this past offseason when I was really pushing it and I honestly had great results in terms of controlling blood sugars

I use Berberine typically or matador by project AD. I use to use Metformin while bulking but I’m not needing that man carbs atm. Tbh it depends on my fasting blood sugars in the morning

Maybe mix honey with oatmeal and you can get enough carbs? The oatmeal might slow the honey down enough and you might still be able to get enough in your stomach. I like to add pb2 to my oatmeal but it might taste weird with honey or maybe good. I’ll try it like that.

maddogg's picture

I’ve stirred my Greek flavored yogurt in with my cooked oatmeal. It’s not bad at all. At my 10 am break I’ll cook oatmeal and put in 4tablespoons of pbfit making the oatmeal runny because the powder will dry it up. Then I throw in frozen blueberries in to cool it down so I can hurry up and eat it before break is over. I throw a lot in, so I usually have to heat it up a little bit more. It tastes pretty good for no additional sugar except what the blueberries have. Probably at least 18 grams of protein too. I’ll have a glass of 1% high protein organic milk, about 18 more grams. And then I’ll slam a 35 gram protein shake when I’m done so it doesn’t ruin my appetite for the oatmeal.

My dad and I like it crunchy too. I like to drench it in honey. It runs all over the plate and then I just keep swirling around the muffin in it like you do with the yoke of a fried egg.

maddogg's picture

Oh fuck yeah. I like it even better on an English muffin. You sure I’m not your dad? Just fucking with you lol:). I didn’t think about that. He could try that. I’m pretty sure English muffins have like 45 grams of carbs by themselves and at least 5 grams protein.

Yeah English Muffins rock with a tonne of butter on them - Crumpets with Marmite and Butter also.

Ok I looked it up and a lot showed added protein powder. I kind of do it like you with a carton of egg whites but I’ll add about 5 whole eggs and make 8 pieces for me and my kid and turn the rest into scrambled eggs with onion and green peppers and a little cheese and mushrooms in my half

Zalewski's picture

That’s what I eat currently for pre workout actually. Around 80g pre workout atm

Let me know if I'm off.. Wldnt glucose and fructose be best pre and intra workout, then just a whole food starch glucose for post to aid muscle glycogen... I seem to always add fruit or syrups to my post, but have been told to let my body spike its own natural sensitivity of receptors.. what's ur thoughts?

Zalewski's picture
