White vs brown rice
ad
Hi eroids,
When i'm on caloric surplus i try to eat as clean as possible, rice, pasta, oats and so on for the carbs, when i eat white rice i get hungry after 1h and after eating brown rice probably 3h, why do i feel like white rice calories are almost nothing? is this placebo? also when i eat brown rice 2h pre workout, i get way better pump than white rice, is it just me? does this matter when trying to gain weight? some people say stay away from brown rice if you're trying to gain weight due to grains will make u feel full the whole time, now i do feel full the whole time but i feel like white rice is almost 0

White rice is starch, so it's closer to being broken down into sugar than brown rice! White is less filling and more fattening!
I have the same issue. Fiber content in brown rice along with the grains digest slower leave u fuller longer. Its kinda like test suspension and cyp. They both are great but one gets in and out in a hurry and the other gradually does its thing.. post/preworkout i like white rice but for dinner brown rice is good too..
I've always eaten brown rice because of its enhanced nutritional value and fiber! It als has a wonderful nutty flavor! Occasionally, for the sake of change, I'll go 2cups brown rice and 1 cup jasmine rice! This enhances the flavor and textural values! Hope this helps brother!
I switched to basmati rice now
basskiller89I think it comes down to what you enjoy brother. If you're getting adequate calories and notice that you have better results with brown rice then I'd say stick with brown rice. Placebo is a very strong effect either way. I do believe pumps will help you grow. Better workouts will equal better gains all around. Perhaps try eating brown rice as your pre workout meals to keep you full and pumped for hours and then consider switching to white rice and other shorter acting carbs so you can hit calories and not feel stuffed. Trial and error to see what you feel works best for you
Hi brother.
I prefer white rice. Tastes better to me. But I get hungry about 2 hours after having white rice and chicken for example.
If I eat brown rice and chicken I am good to go for about almost 4 hours. I have also noticed better and stadier energy levels while using brown rice.
I will definately recommend brown rice over white rice. More nutritional benefits. White rice with chicken breast post workout. Amazing meal.
Kind Regards
Uchibah458White rice I prefer post workout since its fast digesting, and brown rice I consume throughout the day before training, since its slow digesting.
don't u have problem between meals? don't you feel full the whole time?
Brown because of the fiber
Brown rice is better for you and I think it’s great. I’m surprised that others have issues with it.
First, Pasta is never a food product I would consider "as clean as possible". Processed refined wheat products are not what I consider a bodybuilding food save for a cheat meal.
As for the rice color and type. You have answered your own question. Per your own personal experience brown rice is working for you. Why fix what is not broken? I personally would never waste my time fretting over which color my rice is that I'm eating. The difference is negligible.
I understand, but each time i eat brown pasta pre workout the pump i get is not even funny, thats why i sometimes prefer it same with the brown rice
Not even funny? Like, how? I'm a bit confused.
If you get a great pump with brown preworkout why not stick with it? Isnt that the whole point ? To get a great pump
The pump i get with brown pasta is wayyy better, idk why, thats why i tend to eat it alot pre ww, but cant eat it during the day as i feel full for next hours
Then there you have it. Enjoy it preworkout and utilize a different carb source for the other meals. Resolve, dedication, and consistency are key, not rice color. Do what works and remember to keep it simple.
Have more white rice. Have it closer to your workout. Brown rice sucks, get your fiber from your veggies. If there is a period in the day where you’ll know you’ll be going 3-4 hours without food then throw in a brown rice meal prior. But for bulking purposes I’m white rice all the way, even when cutting I still eat white rice and get plenty lean.
I will try that from now on, probably 1.5h max preworkout
GI index for long grain white and short grain brown only differs by one point, so the glycemic load doesn’t vary much. I hate brown rice so I eat white, when I allow myself carbs.
It really depends on the type of white rice... But, yes, I have seen certain types of white rice not much higher on the glycemic index than some "better" brown versions.
Would you mind explaining?? What to take into concideration when buying white rice??
I simply read the nutritional label. Nutritional content varies from brand to brand of white rice. Obviously, brown rice will be more nutritious on average. I was referring only to glycemic index, however, brown rice does have more minerals and fiber in it. I make up for them with reds and greens and multivitamins.
I ate brown rice for a long time and always had trouble digesting it correctly. It may be better for me than white rice but not if I can’t use it correctly.
Switched to white rice and it’s much easier for me.
Gall bladder issues?
Yes, exactly that's been my problem for years, my stomach is really small, i have to force myself to eat sometimes, and when eating brown rice/pasta it just gets worse, I'll try whiterice for bulking next time instead of brown
I swear by white rice for the same reasons. Basmati & jasmine go down tastey and never feel wierd in the belly..
I dotn even look at brown rice and pasta has the same effect on me... for me basmati rice , rice cakes , and english muffins go down easy peasey
Brown rice has alot more soluble fiber so it makes you feel full longer. That's the one downside I've found to it while bulking, many times I eat and I'm not the least bit hungry due to the brown rice.
The brown rice also is much more nutrient rich than white rice, so I just force feed myself when need be, I feel.like it's worth it.
man i literally have to force myself to eat sometimes, because i feel so full even sometimes it takes me 30 mins finishing 1 meal because i'm so full from previous meal
