+ 2 Watch out for the choice of carbs.
A little introduction.
Carbohydrates are the main macronutrient that provides energy to our body. It is a molecule composed of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen; they serve to nourish both the brain and the muscles.
How many of you have been eating carbohydrates and feeling lazy all day, sleepy and tired with a stone in your stomach.
Well, friends, the solution lies in the choice of carbohydrates.
To make it short, simple carbohydrates "the bad ones", those to be avoided, are short-chain sugars that promote energy quickly, but of short duration. These include white table sugar, sweetened drinks, sweetened but also bread, rice, pasta from white flours.
On the other hand, "good" complex carbohydrates take longer to be digested, but they have the advantage of leaving the body with more energy for longer. These are the carbohydrates containing the starches, therefore those derived from cereals, from wholemeal flour.
Personally, I have replaced all my carbohydrates with "good" ones, such as legumes, bread, pasta, rice, spelt, barley and whole grains.
It is essential first of all to understand how much faster is the assimilation of carbohydrates in our organism, the more we risk what is called "the insulin peak", and in my case it was caused by the white flours (and derivatives), even eating only rice I felt swollen.
The results are already felt immediately for all those who do not want abdominal swelling, weight gain and oily skin.
Both for those who want to live a healthier and more balanced life without laziness and drowsiness that the "bad" carbohydrates can cause.

Nice post. Alpha and the Doc made great points. I hate processed foods and try my hardest to stay away from them. Damn kids usually mess me up. Lol. I eat breads made from whole grains, nuts, and oats, instead of enriched flours. And if I need a quick simple carb fix (especially after a workout) I really on fruits usually blended up into a drink, instead of processed sugars. Timing my carbs has been a game changer for myself, which I'm still ironing out and learning.
Alphamale500Well said bro.+ And I certainly understand staying away from certain processed foods for your choice of carbohydrates. But like you mentioned, there are times when your body requires simple carbs, whatever their source may be. Timing of simple carb intake is a very important factor of their consumption. But they shouldn't be totally avoided, unless you suffer from some type of medical situation that warrants so.
Like you said, timing of carbohydrate intake can be a big game changer. Imo, the times when you need to pay most attention to your carb/protein/fat intake are; when just waking, immediately before training, immediately after training, 1.5 to 2 hours after training, meals throughout the day, and before bed.
Alphamale500This is a good post with good information. However, as a bodybuilder/weightlifter, imo you shouldn't just follow the guidelines that these simple carbs are "the bad carbs" and they are "to be avoided" at all times, and these complex carbs are the only carbs you should eat! I understand the point you're trying to make, but there is certainly a time and place for simple carbohydrates with a high glycemic index just as there's a time when your body benefits from complex carbohydrates with a low glycemic index.
Like I said, timing is a major factor of what type of carbohydrates you should eat. Right before training, right after training, 2 hours after training, meals throughout the day etc, should incorporate both simple and complex carbs. And besides time and place, whether you're cutting or bulking is a major factor that needs to be taken into account when choosing what type of carbohydrates you're choosing and how much. You can't just say that all simple carbohydrates are bad and are to be totally avoided at all times. That's my opinion anyhow.
Of course there are many different tailored meal plans of all kinds. Carbohydrates are fuel for your body as we all know. Throughout the day you might want to consume mainly complex carbs with a low glycemic index that will provide you with sustained energy. If you need a source of fast energy, then that's a time when your body would benefit from eating simple carbs with a high glycemic index. Basically, you would wanna eat "the bad carbs that should be avoided" as you stated.
And of course I'm not arguing the differences you made between the simple and complex carbs. But imo, I certainly feel that both types of carbs should be utilized for optimum body performance and physique enhancement.
Dude, thank you so much for stopping by and letting go of your opinion. I share what you wrote.
I did this topic thinking about a glycemic factor, namely the choice of complex carbohydrates during the day because they are slow release and give more of a feeling of satiety.
However, as you say, before a training session you can choose simple carbohydrates, the fast ones, to exploit the explosive and rapid energy. That's why I also changed my diet.
Personally I felt already after the second day a certain intestinal well-being, but above all disappeared in abdominal swelling; that actually caused the white rice.
Alphamale500Yeah that's cool bro, everyone has their preferences of what they like to eat. I was just making the point that for optimal performance and physique enhancement, there is certainly a time when simple carbs are appropriate and actually preferable to eat. It goes a lot deeper than "good carbs" and "bad carbs". Simple high glycemic carbs shouldn't just be tossed to the side in the "bad carbs" pile and not be consumed at all.
Both simple, high glycemic index carbs and complex, low glycemic index carbs have their place in bodybuilding/weightlifting and should be incorporated together to really the most out of your workouts/training and diet. Incorporating both forms of carbohydrates into your diet is especially important to get the most out of any AAS regimen you are running also.
While I appreciate the contribution. I personally do not consider processed white flour in bread and pasta as "good" carbohydrates. I would always advocate ditching such carbohydrate sources in favor of unprocessed natural carbohydrate such a yams, potatoes, & sweet potato
Good post! I hope most readers are aware of this. But for those who aren't; they should pay heed! Bottom line Simple carbs=poison!
Yeah my main carbs are green veggies (mostly sweet peppers and broccoli) , oats and rice. My does entice me to eat these devil made nutter butters. She says it's ok because they have peanut butter in them. I cave every time....
