protein powder

ad

Hey guys, I'm in the market for a new protein powder. Was wanting to know , what brands are "good"? What brands do u guys use? Soy? Whey? Isolate? And weight gainer? What's better for packing on pounds?

Muscle feast unflavored whey isolate is my go to. Can mix in oats and makes delicious shakes and even with straight water tastes like mothers milk lol!

I keep a cpl different proteins on hand. Morning or before bed (both optional if i need extra recovery or missed a meal) i do a complex blend of whey iso and casein protein (Pro7ein Synthesis). After workouts I (always) do whey iso (Wheybolic 60).

*Morning shakes I'll mix oats, yogurt, and fruits (547cals,54p/66c/7f).
*Post workout shakes mixed w fruits and shot of honey (445,44p/65c/3f).
*Night shake just mixed w almondmilk (175,35p/3c/3f).

...Shakes shldnt be taken to replace meals. A proper meal plan gives u all the macro and micronutrients need to perform 100%. I usually only have one shake a day (post workout) to help with recovery, but sometimes life happens and u need to balance out..

Still searching, cannot find it, I think it might be in one of my mags, so I will keep looking
they were still at it up to 3 years ago though
testing here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Fitness/comments/31volk/we_sent_samples_from_fa...

looking at the comments, ON has -12% less protein then claimed but is half the cost, tastes better, and is widely available. v the top tested protein.

Take away: Use a heaping scoop of ON to add 12% more protein.

giardap's picture

Thats one of the take aways. I think that only a complete fool would buy those other products though, considering their contents.

I'd like to see the protein sources though. ON will still, nowadays at least, be one with better practices, but I wonder what it is they count as protein.

Re: price, ON is still high enough imo. At least on this side of the water. Higher than bulk P's, higher than MyP's. MyP's is cheaper and has a higher claimed versus delivered protein content. MyP's mixes more or less the same as ON IMO, they have great tastes if you opt for that. I think very comparable in that regard.

So when you compare what a global food/nutrition company (who undoubtedly raised ON up somewhat) is doing, to a supplement reseller, they are being beaten in delivery.... marginally... but still being beaten... and being beaten soundly on price.

Take away..... why pay more for less?!

They (ON) have also been publicly outed as one of the worst for having inside it, what they claim to have inside it. They were exposed a few years back.

Don't (always) believe the hype.

Munchichiman's picture

I tried the one they have at Costco comes in a 50 pound bag, was cheap. Tasted like shit and I had some wicked farts definitely get what you pay for. Thankfully Costco has a great return policy

Yeah let me see if i can track it down. Its going back a spell and the ON business has changed. I was surprised they were on the list tbh. I been using them since 2001 but switched in last few years to stuff I can digest better.

Let me see if I can dig up that review, I will ping you when I get it. Was in a magazine but definitely online somewhere too. Leave it with me...

Greg's picture

Like reviewing sources for old orders... What was true then isn't necessarily true now.

giardap's picture

Agree completely. They were actually bought by a massive Irish business with loads of GMP controlled lines, a few years back, so I would imagine it should never happen again.

This said, oldest trick in the book; whats on the box ain't always in the tin. There were a couple of peer reviewed publications that outed other brands too recently enough.

Its pretty much a given it will happen somewhere, sometime, as the industry isn't really regulated.

MyProtein pure whey isolates unflavoured

Munchichiman's picture

Dude unflavored is where it’s at I use muscle feast (grass fed hormone free) expensive but worth it. Try this for a shake:
One apple
Half an orange
Two bananas
Two spoons peanut butter
And a giant serving of unflavored protein.
Blend with one cup of water or half cup water and half cup yogurt. Pretty damn good

I bought some GMC MASS GAINER COMPLEX. I like it and has helped me out. Any input on this brand?

whey all the way baby!!! PES' Select protein is my newest fave. Top Notch. Excellent flavor. Everyone is making awesome recipes with it, the snicker doodle lends itself to many other guises heavy in nutmeg and cinnamon. Great mix of whey conc/isolate. Outstanding product yet again.

I love serious mass ( high calories for hard gainers )

Labrada Lean Body Meal Replacement as needed through out day... (mixed with water/ice/scoop peanut butter/half banana)

Gold standard whey

That’s my favorite too. Good flavor and they don’t put creatine in it. A lot of powders have creatine.
