-2 Vitamine C bad for muscle gains, but what about gains on cycle?

ad

Hey guys,

Vitamine C has a lot of benefits, it's a strong antioxidant and it is good for cortisol control.
According to studies taking vitamin c around the workout might be detrimental for endurance and muscle gains; https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4270502/.

Is this also true when using steroids or do steroids override the whole issue with antioxidants around the workout?

Could there be benefits of taking 1.5gram pre workout and then 1.5gram hours later at night

To me it looks like you just might to avoid taking it near your training session.

Its pretty easy to get Vitamin C and E through diet alone. OJ, grapfruit juice, potatoes, carrots, almonds, spinach etc....Food sources of antioxidants also have an increased bio-availiblity and have not been shown to interfere with exercise negatively contrary to supplemental form. In short, don't waste your money on supplemental antioxidants and rather spend that extra money on better quality food.

The vitamin C and E supplement did not significantly blunt muscle hypertrophy during 10 weeks of training; however, some measurements of muscle strength revealed lower increases in the supplemented group than the placebo group.

Looks like I'm in the clear. I could give two shits about strength as long as it doesn't affect my quest of hypertrophy. I really wouldn't worry about it either way though. I think the benefits you get from it outweigh what they were trying to look at in this study.; Just stay tuned though, 2wk from now you will see a study saying how it increases strength. That is how this stuff goes. Don't skip your VItC because of this study.

High doses of VitC act like a diuretic. That is what is bringing out the vascularity.

Vitamin C is one of the best and most effective vitamins , for me the supplementation of Vit C is necessary cause u can't get daily 1-4g from your normal meals, impossible ....

The benefits of Vitamin C far outweigh the negative effects if there are any. I'm sure that taking ViT C will not have much of an impact on muscle growth. I've taken it forever and never felt that it interfered with met gains!

You'd die without it and humans are like 2 of the only living things that don't produce their own Vitamin C. It's extremely important to get a lot of it everyday.

This is copied straight from the "Key Points" section after the abstract

"This study is the first to investigate the effects of high dosages of vitamins C and E on the cellular and physiological adaptations to strength training in humans."

I've never heard of this before and honestly until there is more scientific, peer reviewed research out there I wouldn't give it too much thought.

Just my $. 02 though. Interesting read nonetheless

Why not just get it from food. Broccoli is high in Vit C. Sweet potatoes to.

You can get Vitamin C from raw meat, especially liver and fish roe. And it will be highly bioavailable from those sources.
