Khabib v McGregor 2 - Who you got?

ad

Hard to know when this will take place. I imagine that Dana will need to smooth things with Khabib WRT his friends. And then, the Nevada State Athletic Commission will need to see through due process, albeit likely a sham process with fines and time already served etc.

So, maybe St. Patrick's Day 2019? Although I doubt that New York would have MCGregor back. Who knows!

This said, there will be a rematch if Khabib remains a UFC fighter. So... who you got?

I got McGregor for the 2nd fight.

In my opinion, R1 and R2 of their first fight showed the blueprint to defeat Khabib. Neutralise his ground game and then beat him on the feet. There is always potential for a surprise choke when Khabib shoots, but I would imagine that would be a complete outlier in strategic terms.

I reckon McGregor KO R3:
R1 A standup stand-off
R2 Hold Khabib off on the ground, minimise damage while conserving energy
R3 Stand-up; and without ring-rust, and with enough energy, land the KO

we all wanna see again a clash war between these 2 fighters.

On a side note, did everyone see that Johnny bones jones got re-instated? Boom!
Hopefully that dumbass can keep his shit together this time.

Yeah..., third time is a charm! ;-)

giardap's picture

Isnt this going to be his 4th or 5th run at a title??!
Lost any form of respect for that man after what he did to that pregnant woman.

I don’t think McTapper is ready for Khabib. He wasn’t even close to Khabib’s level. It was a solid ass kicking and the Irishman is going to have to train more and get a better ground game. Unfortunately for McTapper, that kind of ground game takes 25 years of competitive wrestling to learn.
I think Khabib and Diaz sounds interesting. Much more interesting than McTalker getting his ass beat again. I think the next fight for Khabib is going to be in Russia and I don’t think Connor is dumb enough to talk shit down there.
I think Tony Ferguson is a better matchup for McSniffles.
Yeah, Mac Came back after he was beat by Diaz....But The Diaz win was a conditioning issue. Mac dominated Diaz until Diaz conditioning and heart kicked in.
Khabib completely dominated McGregor. It was absolutely 1 sided. Mac needs more training and a few more refresher fights.

Conor got demolished full stop a rematch would be silly and just money making for ufc and easy quick work for khabib tho since conor loves to tap and give up.

Ferguson should be up next that would make a better fight.

By the eye test, Conor was in as good of shape as ever. He is a stand up fighter, and gets gassed if he doesnt get a KO in the first 3 rounds. This happened to him against Nate Diaz as well. Not sure if Conors style will ever be able to match Khabib. Fergeson is an interesting match up for Khabib though.

Absolutely agree. His fitness level is 100%. It's just the God Damned difference between primarily fast twitch versus slow twitch. You have the short term explosiveness that is unmatched, but at the cost of no endurance. Partly genetic and largely training related. Takes years to change that, literally years and years of pounding the street or doing things like triathlons (like the Diaz's), whereas McGregor in recent years tried to rectify his lower intensity issues on the treadmill and with row machines etc. It just does not translate.

At this stage of his career he will never develop that, given the damage this type of lifestyle causes. BUT... it makes it interesting in that strategy becomes the means to winning.

Cannot wait to see Khabib v Fergusson. Should be a crazy match up!

I'd like to see Ferguson vs Khabib. I personally dont have much interest in seeing Conor/Khabib 2. Tonys elbows and stamina may be enough to drop Kabib. But who knows? They may have to fight outside the UFC though. Khabib said to Dana if you drop Tukhugov then I'll break my contract with you.

IYeah Tony has really become interesting now. Stamina can be a game changer with Khabib, particularly if you can stuff takedowns, so if he can/does then those elbows be come lethal!

Yeah Khabib, I think, will do that.
There was talk before the fight, where his team manager said Khabib's plan was to retire right after the fight. Apparently he wanted to destroy Dana's posterboy and literally walk away. Seems like he hates the UFC or what it stands for.

Jayzgainz's picture

I hadn't heard that about him retiring after the fight. That is interesting though. If that was his thinking all along maybe he just decided to say f**k it and go for broke hence his actions after the fight.
One thing I do find interesting is that there is footage out there of Conor saying during the fight " it was just business". To me that signals he knew Khabib wasnt playing and maybe for a second he was nervous that all that talk he did before the fight may have crossed the line with Khabib.
Either way, I enjoyed the fight and in my opinion, no matter what he says, Dana likes the attention the post fight bullshit is bringing. Yeah, a few guys will fall because of it but the next card is going to bring in a ton of ppv and attention

Yeah it was Brendan Schaub that said it to Joe Rogan: https://cage.news/schaub-khabib-will-retire-after-conor-fight

Agreed. Yeah it was very different, definitely a turning of the tables for McGregor.

Dana is rubbing his hands together, all the way to the bahamas right now!!!

Manshit's picture

He was saying that but his stock just went up a bunch. You know to be the king etcetera.Ferguson as well.I expect a re match but I hope we see Khabib vs Ferguson soon.To me though, the most interesting is still Kevin Lee.His top game is so strong I want to see Khibib against that.Conor vs Ferguson is also very interesting because Ferguson will strike with him.Another fight that would be very interesting is Brian Ortega vs Khibib.Khibib the best wrestler vs the best jujitsu I’ve ever seen in the octagon. The division just got very interesting!
Speaking of interesting have you seen any of the professional jujitsu matches.Bravo vs Grace was very interesting!

giardap's picture

Of course!!! How could we have left Ortega out of this?!!!
See this is what I mean about the Conor loss being good. Unreal how open it is now, with serious talent.

Yeah, I used watch a lot of them back when I used play jitz. Bravo was really exciting, a new generation of player with the rubber guard... like the gracie's did back when shoot wrestling was the thing and they just dominated the world; Bravo changed the game completely! It's almost a generational thing now isnt it?! Takes that long for something really special to happen!

Manshit's picture

Bravo is so interesting as he puts himself in danger often, just to bait his opponents into attacking with normal BJJ moves that he knows he has counters for.His lock or clamp moves are very interesting and new to the game.Tenth planet jujitsu is certainly changing things. All credit to Royler Gracie,Bravo almost broke his leg but he refused to tap and ran the clock out.Grappling is getting interesting again.

Manshit's picture

Conor was not in shape and he had no answer for Khibib’s ground game.He did ok in the first but by the second round he was already gassed.Conor won the third but had no power by that point.I Personally would like to see Conor fight a few others first. Then a rematch.Kevin Lee and Khibib is the fight I am most interested in because Lee’s top game is very good.I’d like to see if Khibib can fight off his back.I’d like to see Toney Ferguson against anybody. He’s a weird dude but I think he is the best at 155.

giardap's picture

If you look again at R1, he almost completely neutralised Khabib on the ground. In the context of Conor being considered a stand up fighter only (which is untrue)... but I think, maybe only 2 others ever did that to Khabib.
Conor did nothing with it granted, but took away most of Khabib's tools. Thats the formula right there.

R3, yep, it is what it is. Depleted, and won the R. Then nothing left - kinda what we knew would happen eventually. God damned lack of slow twitch.

Fergusson - I am convinced that man has something seriously wrong with him! He is brilliant to watch isnt he?! Kevin Lee.. yeah big time.

Funny... after the boxing, I thought the division looked like a snooze fest... but now with this McG loss and Fergussons win... it looks really exciting again... and now with Khabib's standoff...

We could be looking at McG versus T Fergusson for a belt!

I don't believe that Nevada will allow them to fight against each other again in there state.
I think that there going to have to take the fight to another state unless dana really comes out of pocket and makes sure that everyone in Nevada has a wonderful Christmas this year lol

I believe that McGregor would lose again in the rematch. I think that the better fighter won.
It can always go either way. It just takes one mistake from either fighter to give the match to the other.
This will be interesting to see how it plays out though

giardap's picture

Oh totally man, the better fighter won on the night, no doubt.

Jeez I dunno. Dana is in bed big time Nevada... just seems like nothing derails that money train! Even Tyson got back in, less than a year after taking a chunk out of Holyfield!

Gettingbig's picture

Yeah the Tyson in incident immediately came to mind when I was thinking about what they were going to do about this.
There is a huge amount of money involved. I believe that once everyone is taken care of they will let them back but they can take less money to another state and let it happen there.
A couple of other states would love to have this fight in there backyard.
I think that Nevada might get worried that if they let this slide things could get away from them in terms of the power they hold over gaming.
I believe that there still holding the prize money and I believe that he might actually have to give up the prize money but would still get his cut of pay per view and such

giardap's picture

I just looked at wikipedia there. they took 3 mill from Tyson! Back then... jebus thats a lot of money!##Yeah Dana said they would absolutely not withhold his ppv cash etc.

Good point re: Gaming... That is the be all end all in Nevada. Vegas itself is a funny old place, Ive only been there once, but you could see clearly, the engine in work... nothing is going to mess with that, so you might be right there!

Gettingbig's picture

3 million back then is probably equivalent to just under 30 million today lol
So much money
