+ 3 Top five things you need to be successful at bodybuilding?
First and foremost I am no expert, I body build simply as a hobby.
So this list is just an opinion , completely open to interpretation and modification . I had a thought of what the top five things are you need to be a successful bodybuilder, and decided to write the idea out. You know helps me to keep my mind from being cluttered.
-
Diet and exercise . I consider the two equal, for ones success is linked inextricably to the other. You can intake all the clean carbs and protein you want, if you are not working your body it is some what wasted. Then to exercise if you are not in taking the proper amount of protein and carbs , you will not get the optimal muscle growth through protein synthesis .
-
Stress free environment or time. I consider a near stress free environment, to be of the up most importance. You must have the proper amount of time to devote to exercise and diet. That is why sponsors are so important to bodybuilders, they provide a means of support. If you are under constant stress from an hourly job, and not having enough money. Your bodies stress hormones will keep you from obtaining your optimal form.
-
Gear or aas. Now I know a lot off people are going to disagree with this being number three, but it is a necessary evil. It allows you to reach that next level, you take a bodybuilder with average genetics and compare him to a bodybuilder with above average genetics. You give the average bodybuilder aas and he will surpass the above average genetics natural bodybuilder. Im sure that if bodybuilders could get away with not using aas, they would. But they are used in the sport , so it is what it is.
-
Genetics. Pure and simple though genetics are not with in our control, they are still a factor. You need the proper genetic form and genetic potential to be a better than the guy standing next to you. Combine genetics and aas, and you have the top one percent of the worlds bodybuilders.
-
Self Belief or Drive. Most of you mentioned Drive or motivation as an extremely important quality to have , if you are going to be truly successful at bodybuilding . I totally agree , honestly self belief probably belongs higher up on the list, but I listed the qualities in order as they are relevant to me personally .

Mentality is the most important. Goal oriented FOCUS and the resolve to turn that mental image in to a reality. Couple that with the NO EXCUSES mindset and you have the foundation for success in bodybuilding and in life.
IMO I think mentality is the biggest role. I remember last year I was going to compete again in physique but I didnt have the mentality like I did the previous year. If youre not with it in your mind then youre going to give up and I see lots of people who are ready to make changes, but they dont have the mentality and give up before the results even come in.

Your list is a good one. I've done 12 NPC shows. I could not get onstage without this quality somewhere in that list: self discipline. I have seen guys with no genetic balance/shape. But they come in at 4 to 6% body fat and place high and do well.
Thank you for a great topic/post.
The most important things are the intangibles. All the genetics, diet, training, and gear in the world won't make up for lack of heart, courage, and an unwillingness to ever give up.
I can't bring myself to even include genetics, simply because it's completely, 100% out of our control. Why bother thinking about it?
Diet
Training
Gear
*Controlling water
*Manipulating insulin
*both fall under the diet category but are extremely important skills to master
These are the most important tools we have imo
I do not compete on stage, so I dont mess with insulin or really bother with the pain of dropping water weight, but I do understand you putting them up the list.
I agree with you on genetics but I still include it, simply because it does separate the best from all the rest.
Think you everyone for your input!
I mean the insulin in your body!
Im glad you put diet and exercise first +1
backonroidsSelf believe
I would put genetics as first point!
Or definitely before gear.
backonroidsDeffo genetics , however if the commitment and drive isn't there then people will not know their genetics potential . I bet there all loads of guys with the best genetics for bodybuilding that don't even know it and are just laying around on the sofa eating chips and drinking beer lol
true mate!
maybe greg valentino is also a genetic freak but he prefers synthol LOL
backonroidsHaha he was in decent shape , he just fucked hinself up with that shit , what a mess. I guess he's learnt the hard way , even now you'll never see him without a jumper under his Tshirt to hide his bis or at T shirt that's goes half way down his forearms.
There's something about him I like as a person (not his choices ) I think when he goes off on one he's like a roided chipmunk - always has me in stitches
I CANNOT STAND generation iron but valentinos storys are hilarious. Or his own channel with him ranting in his car. Breat stuff fucko! Lol
backonroidsYou Momo! Haha
Yeah I love his rants man , "story time " that man has got some mad story's , knocking out pimps , getting held by gun point , he's upfront about everything apart from synthol which is strange he claims it's from injecting like 5cc of prop into each bi per day lol
Yea I heard him say that he was doing a gram of test
a DAY at one point in his life. Thats wild! Seems like an ok guy though. Lived a crazy life for sure!
.
