Time to hang it up

ad

Does you heart and mind tell you that you can do thing you once did? But your body screams at you STOP!!! Lol that’s where I’m at I can still lift heavy heavy weights but my body can no longer keep up with the viscous beating it takes.. my knees are shot.. hips bad.. shoulders bad... I think now I will drop some weight listen to my doctors and live a healthy life.. focus on quality of life and not compete any more.. this was a super hard choice but one that will bennifit me in the long run.. I plan on dropping 125 pounds and do high rep low weights and cardio.. come off the juice and go back to TRT dosages.. I know I will shrink but I’m ok with that ... my strong man days are over...

Lol.. my thing is brother I want to be able to walk and function in 10-15 years.. I need to drop this weight and shrink down to a normal weight and focus on being healthy .. I’ve abused my body hard for 15+ years and it’s caught up to me.

I hear ya big bro. Health and family first. Probably a tough decision emotionally. Look at it like another chapter not the end of the book. Respect for ya all day long.

Just get into bodybuilding instead of the power lifting. You've built a huge base now shape it up. Your not done. Google Dave Draper today. Dudes 75 and still jacked. You can body build your whole life.

I know that feeling like I'm 20 in my brain but 43 in reality all too well. I love playing baseball but the sad truth is my knees dont take a beating like they used to. So...on to the senior league I went last spring. Still fun, just less intensity. But hey, Im still doing what I enjoy. Just have to adapt to being old bastards.
Best of luck man!!

I read your post and I know we never spoke but I get it man. It takes me 10 minutes to not limp or ache. Its gotten better since I got back into training but my "pipe dreams" (no homo)
of running like im 20's or 30's definitely are over. Best wishes Sir. Something awesome lies ahead of you.

Sounds good brother, like Sam said below think of it as a new beginning. I am a bit younger than you but am a big guy for my height, I have also had a few health scares myself living the lifestyle, as well as bad knees, back etc. I really had to step it back a few notches on the weight and focus on just great workouts and overall health. I can't lie to you I like it a lot better, I still want to put up bigger numbers but when you fuck your back up it really humbles in a way that nothing else will. Sometimes we just need to be grateful for what we have and what we have achieved. God bless and we are all rooting for ya.

Sounds cliche but, just be the best gymjunkie you can be......dropping some body weight, n lightening the weights, improving your cardiovascular health ( not that I’m saying you need it), definitely will be a challenge, accept it, embrace it, and beat the shit out of it! ....
Good luck on your journey brutha!

Tough decision, and only you know the right way and answer. Hope and wish you all the best, and no matter how much you need to drop, you still have Knowledge, memories and people who remembers you at your prime.

Just hit different angles. You'll be surprised. I quit benching really heavy about a year ago and my chest actually got bigger. This isn't the end for you. Think of it as a new beginning..

At least you know you took full advantage of the prime years. For a second there I thought that 125# was a typo.
I've never benched your body weight, never will

Your body and your family will be glad you decided to drop some pounds.
Come up with a strategy for living to your 80.

You still could do if you really wanted to - Stan Efferding was still setting world powerlifting records in the squat, bench and deadlift when he was 49 yrs old. Look at Mark Felix in WSM still at 52 also...

Congrats on the tough decision. I have been there. When the shrinking sets in, bro is it hard to resist getting back on. However, my bloodwork is always amazing and never short of breath anymore.

Right back at ya. 2 weeks ago I threw out my back hard; doc said its time to stop acting like I'm 30. I almost popped a disc. I never got to break my PR but its like the fish that got away. Stay healthy and live for another day bro.

I’m going to pour out some liquor for you bro! I am going through similar. Coming to terms is rough but once you accept it mentally you realize the fire we have doesn’t fade. I will always live on the fringe bro but I will adapt and do wht needs to be done to see my son age and grow my line. But... I will always be a Lion and push my mind and my body within my means. Nothing can change that! If anything now I can begin crafting my Opus Magnum!!!

Once you flip that switch you’ll find new challenges to push yourself. Life is full and living it to its fullest is a must. Do work bro!!

Good for you. I turn 50 this year and I’ve had to change things drastically the last 4-5 years. I do lighter weights and higher reps. I keep my weight consistent and just try to refine things. I do cardio and lots of core work and stretching (for my back). I workout 5-6 times a week and I’m doing pretty well. I don’t see hardly anyone who’s in my shape, at my age. I guess you just have to adjust and make new goals. Best of luck.

I completely understand. The body/skeleton ages and all we can do is keep fighting the clock. I currently subscribe to the theory of doing my best. If it causes my joints/back to hurt I just aint doing it anymore. You are not alone.

Pale's picture

No shame in that bro. You have competed at high levels and now its time to turn a new page. The cool thing is, you can always come back if you change your mind. Maybe even in a lighter weight class

Maybe just going to focus on being a healthy weight and taking care of my body
