Superior genes..

ad

So yesterday I started watching "The Office US" and in one of the first season episodes I saw Dwight talking about "Superior genes".
Reference : https://youtu.be/WecfZGFvWiE
Although I understand that that's comedy but nowadays and in past there is such a thing in animal kingdom as " Selective breeding". You see all these huge muscle meet cows and bills who only eat grass and supplements and you go to gym all the time and use gear but will never(never say never) achieve the level of these huge animals. Speaking of humans..
And I know myself a lot of guyz who don't work out at all and are just freaking huge, and have muscles from nothing. I'm jealous of course. I started from scratch and was fat, than skinny when was younger. And build and build from that. And I must say. The struggle is real. If you don't have these good genes already, you have to give a lot of effort to it. And you still won't be so big as the guy who have just born with better genes.

So..

Your thoughts on this.

Superior genes? I just wear Levis.

Great genetics no doubt have a much bigger role to play in Bodybuilding than powerlifting for sure, although having a blocky mesomorphic physique with a naturally thick and strong core makes a hell of a difference for squats and deads. These types of guys have much stronger CNS systems and recovery abilities, making them able to squat and dead 3 times a week somehow. I'm massively ectomorphic with a very fast metabolism, poor digestive system and appetite all from my parents genes that have passed down. Still from absolute grit and determination I can still outlift guys who have 4 to 5 stone on me purely because they lack the drive and desire to keep going at it no matter what. The gift is to have mesomorphic genetics, massive desire and drive and the ability to run a lot of gear no matter what the sides...

I believe that 80% of us have alright genetics for building muscle, 15% have terrible genetics for putting on any kind of muscle mass then we have the Phils and the Dorians who fill up the rest.

I think this because I know lads who have terrible genetics and can follow a decent diet, use huge amounts of gear and hit the gym regularly and have very unimpressive results.

Just means I have to work a little harder and be a little smarter about what I do. This was a somewhat interesting post that touches on that.

u name it possibilites were endless

There was a fella out of Germany a while back, thought along the line you do. He tried this sort of lark, but it really didn't work out the way he thought and you seem to think it does.

Dachshunds though... yeah Dachshunds, that's a different story altogether.

I'm amazed at how many people still believe eugenics is a real thing, much less the ignorance about the history with which the ideology is associated. I remember getting into a discussion with a guy who thought musclebound people would pass their muscular genes to their children. Although the children would inherit their father's genes, I attempted to explain to him that it wouldn't necessarily mean they would be genetically equipped to pack on muscle. He didn't understand what I meant---because the "children would have their father's genes". I think some people are merely oblivious to the implications of their arguments, historically or scientifically; that is to say, I don't think they are spoken maliciously.

What do you do...

Honestly, I couldnt agree more with you. The factors are endless... nature versus nurture, environmental factors, mutations, disease..... evolution damnit!!! It all goes out the window when people believe in eugenics. Look to India to see how malevolent eugenics is! It is straight up craziness.

Christophany's picture

Good point about India. Many of those poor bastards are regarded no differently than blacks who lived during the Three-Fifths Compromise in the U.S. I can't imagine what that must be like, although I can certainly sympathize.

LMAO at the Hitler reference...

Subtle as ever ;-)

Very hard to miss the point you made, so no I didn't. I just almost completely disagree with what you are saying, as does history, and find it almost tangibly obvious how close your line of thought is to some of the worst people that walked the earth. I am not saying that you are like them (I am not insulting you), just that the way you seem to think about genetics and its value in breeding humans is a dangerous line of thought.

Slavery was almost exclusively a numbers game and for obvious reasons.

giardap's picture

I said: I am not saying you are like them.
I said you seem to think that line of thought is true, which you do: "example"

Super humans?! What history books did you have as a kid man?! Did the author have a cape?!

Now the future, on the other hand, that will see people playing with genomes. Cosmetically no doubt.
Yes genetics are a factor, but certainly not the biggest. At an absolute MAXimum, you could argue genetics are 50% of the story, absolute maximum. Because environmental factors, inside and outside of the body are equally required to build muscle, everything from the chow you eat to the amount of certain enzymes within your body (nothing to do with genetics).

People way overstate the genetics thing. But yeah the future (rather than the past), wil see more gene play, myostatin being a good example.

Watch the racest remarks please.

Long muscle heads and short tendons equal larger muscles. Arthur Jones proved that theory decades ago. However just about anyone can build a good physique through proper nutrition and exercise. Honestly the pros in the Classic division look better than those mass monsters anyway. That's just my opinion.

I do believe genetics are important but far less than some would have you believe. Diet, smart training and of course taking extreme levels of gear alongside taboo subjects we do not discuss openly here and optimising around all of these factors will be the deciding factor to success or not. Genetics is important and all things being equal the one guy with superior genetics if we were running a controlled experiment where everything else was the same and we had 10 guys locked in a closed environment with perfect control then yes the genetically superior guy will win but I bet the difference will be far less than most believe.

I believe it’s what we do right/wrong when we are young (late teens / early twenties) that has the biggest impact. For me I did not use these years well. Drank way too much alcohol, partied a shit load, took too many drugs, ate fast food and never stepped foot in gym for about 7 years. Damage done and this coming from being a semi professional cyclist. Now I’ve completed changed my lifestyle and my physique but for example I can get fat really easily if I’m not super careful - those fat cells are there for life unless I have them surgically removed which I never plan to do. In some cases I have to accept I will get fat when I really need to grow and I spend a lot of time optimising to minimise that. And then when I get really lean I have some (not a lot but it’s visible) lose skin on my lower abdomen which is unsightly and has kept me off the stage. If I’d do decide at this late age to finally step on I am probably going to have to have that removed. Lots to think about and consider but I digress ....:

Sorry that was a long rant to say genetics is important but not doing damage when younger is far more important in my view and learning to optimise for your specific genetics is where it’s really at!

X2 what Makwa has done in just the last three years is incredible.

Genetics is merely a fraction of the picture. Bodybuilding is actually proof of that, contrary to what most people who vomit the word genetics believe. Don't let it get you down man, just look at the former gods, like Levrone, when they are deflated, or Heath when he was a Bballer. Says it all. Scrawny wimps, same as the rest of us.

On a side note, the office is hilarious! Did you ever watch the original version, the UK series? Dunno if you guys stateside would get the humour, but it is absolutely priceless. The US version is great too.

Words of wisdom! I'm not sure if OP has ever seen this picture of Jay Cutler before bodybuilding:

I think it speaks for itself...

Tnx for sharing you all guyz.
That's interesting thing actually.
